Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine is a rip-off?

@romevi That's exactly the first thing I thought when I saw that screenshot. Wow. Learn something new everyday.

Not if you consider that Compile, the creator's of Puyo Puyo, developed it.

@Epoque

Yeah, they just re-skinned it for the US release.

@romevi Yeah it's not a rip-off, just a re-skin. The same developer apparently licensed the game to be released on the Genesis as Mean Bean Machine, on the SNES as Kirby's Avalanche, and on PC as "Qwirks"... Sega adopted the series under its original name after the original developer closed.

I absolutely loved Dr. Robotnik's when I was younger. Probably because it made me hungry for jelly beans everytime I played it...

Will this come to North America?

..................................pffft, hahahahaha, I almost said that with a straight face. Of course we won't get it, because it's far too cool for us to have it.

Nintendo wants to add multiplayer to a classic game. That's so cute.

Puyo Puyo is awesome. Great puzzler, and online multiplayer for this classic version would be amazing. It's just a shame it's taken this long to make a VC port without WFC support.

Would be nice if they port PuyoPuyo2 instead. Matches can become pretty one-sided when you can't cancel blocks.

@Muu They really should port PuyoPuyo 2 to XBLA and PSN. I would buy it day 1.

I just got the Platinum trophy for the Sega Collection a couple weeks ago. Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine challenge took me FOREVER. Seriously, hours of playing the last freaking level over and over and over... but it was worth it. Quite a good puzzle game, for it's time.

I discovered the Puyo franchise with Puyo Puyo 4 for the Dreamcast and later played Puyo Puyo Box for the Playstation. My wife and I love to play Excavation mode (where you have to clear puyos to open a treasure box or, in later versions, activate a star).

Here's an example of Excavation mode gameplay: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7BdkCjnl4U

Was the Excavation game mode included in the first Puyo Puyo?
