I can understand why EA does this, but they have to realize they are creating multiplayer disparity. If your friends decided to shell out for the Limited Edition while you decided to wait for a price cut, that price cut is void for the fact you have to now shell out extra for buying the map separately.

The way EA handles there DLC rubs me the wrong way immensely... but damn if I don't love their games.

@Guhungus Well, the thing here is, everyone who buys the game new will get the DLC, as every copy of the first run will be "limited edition". There will only be one edition of the game.

Okay. The way I took this Limited Edition idea was that only the first few copies made of the game will sport the Karkand map. Isn't this similar to Bad Company 2's Limited Edition?

There were only a handful of copies that read "Limited Edition" upon it. I don't know for sure, but I remember there being a difference.

@Guhungus

?? I don't see how this is any worse than EVERYTHING else, and is actually better than most. CoD for example: no free anything. You pay full price for a LONG time because the game doesn't really go down in price for a while. Then you either buy the DLC or you don't, like everything else. Later you can pick up the game for cheap, but you still will have to buy the DLC.

This game, you get some DLC for free. So you're already up something at least. Then later, yeah. You were either going to put the money down up front and pay all, or buy it cheap later, but still have to buy the DLC. I don't see what the problem is if you're getting something for free...?

The disparity you mentioned is in ALL games that have DLC. You and your friends either have it, or some of you do, or none of you do. Either way, it'll be a challenge as long as there's DLC, but that's true in ANY game with it.

If you wait for a price cut before buying this game then you may as well not bother. You need to hit the floor in the first couple of months in a Battlefield game to keep up to speed with everyone else who plays.

@darksied Some other games release GOTY editions that actually screw people who bought the game when it was first released out of DLC or make them pay for a huge amount of content that they give others for free just for buying the game as little as 6 months late so deal goes both ways. I understand EA and everyone else wanting to try to protect their profits on new games, its crazy how Gamestop can sell a new game for $60 make split the profit with the people that made the game and then buy the game back for $20 which is less than the profit they made off selling the game new and turn around selling it for $55 and pocketing all that money and give the devolopers anything in return basically stealing sells but i dont agree with punishing consumers for it. Figure out something to make it bad for business for GS to sell used games instead of jewing people out of content and features already on a disk just for wanting to save money.

This is all fine and dandy for us PC players who actually played BF2, but I doubt those getting it for PS3/360 know about the sheer awesomeness that was Strike at Karkand.

There is the possibility of gamers who have played Battlefield 2 who wish to get a copy for their console. You may lump me into this category - I know of the awesomeness that is Battlefield 2... my only regret was that neither of the Bad Company games were as grand in scale.

With all the love for these older maps, I'll definitely get this day one. Between the included DLC and the inevitable Amazon pre-order bonus, it will nullify any benefit gained from waiting for a price drop.

I have only played One BF Game and that was BF2142 and i loved that game tho i didn't play it a whole lot cause i had to use a keyboard. I Loved the Titan Ship Battles in 2142 tho the game didn't have a whole lot of game modes .. i thought that was ok cause i really enjoyed 2142 Titan mode ( think it was called that but i think the ships were called titans ) man it makes me wanna install 2142 right now ... tho i doubt many people are playing it. i wish EA would make a battlefield game for PS3 where it had titan mode in the game cause then i can play more cause of a controller ( keyboard and mouse hurt my hands after awhile )

anyone else play BF2142 ?

Last month DICE released a patch for it, which includes Northern Strike and four more maps for free, Strike at Karkand 2142 is one of those. http://blogs.battlefield.ea.com/battlefield_bad_company/archive/2011/01/17/battlefield-2142-1-51-beta-patch-extended.aspx

I am officially sick and tired of this box art that consists of nothing but a soldier moving/standing smack in the middle and little else in the background.

Yes because in all my time of buying games I know about the box art has really made a difference. They could put this in a paper bag and write BF3 on the side in pencil and I would still buy it.

Box art hasn't affected my purchasing decisions since Game Over by Imagine.

@arkweld you =\= the world. Ive never bought a game because of box art but box art has made me find more out about a game. For example Red Dead Redemption and Borderlands. The box art got me more excited about both games and influenced a buy.

Green or black game packed with the same block lettering and no art would influence your decisions 100%. that is to say, product art influences everyones decisions whether they know it or not.

Gonna wait until the Limited Edition comes to Steam. Nice to see that it's $50 though, I was expecting EA to crank it up to $60. So far so good EA... keep it up.

i have a 100 dollar gift card from futureshop that may just go to this, as long as the price isn't stupid.

(for some reason, games in canada cost 70 dollars sometimes, even PC games, even though we have been at parity for quite some time).

I want the box'd version of this sooooooo bad, but it won't make sense if i have to pay 10 dollars more than what id spend on steam.

I used to play bf2 religiously on pc and was a blast. I dont want to get a 360 so I rather get it on computer. Probably is my computer is old and dated. I just got my tax return and id like to have someone build me a computer. Could anyone reccomend anything for a computer around $1500-1700?

@SackDanDruff

You could easily build a computer for about $600 that would blow away anything one of the consoles could do. But you would still get a very good version on consoles for $300, especially if you lack the knowledge to build a computer yourself.

If you or someone you know can't build a PC, just buy a console. Spending $1500 on a pre-built computer is just far too much. For what its worth, I do all of my computer shopping on Newegg. Great prices on there.

I wish console games would support that many people. 24 people just isn't enough to make it seem like a battle. That's hardly a skimish.
