@King Johngie the Fourth

Totally. Angry Wake? Alan Birds?

Launching a bird into the darkness, then tapping it to turn it into a flare. That'll definitely kill some Taken. I mean, Pigs? ...Bacon?

Boy, that came out of left field...

If nothing else, Järvilehto is probably just tired of the dark, noir-ish mood of his past works and is looking to expand his portfolio... or he really likes Angry Birds.

Kind of a bummer. This is not what I expected from a Remedy-related article. All the best to him, I guess.

Angry Birds has gotten bigger than it can support, I think. It's been and being ported to every system under the sun, getting a table-top game, and is getting a movie tie-in, I believe (unless it's just a Rio tie-in). It's like Pac-Man, only without the Pac-Man. The Angry Birds guys sure know how to market their stuff - I'm interested to see when it will all break down.

@ch3burashka Kinda what I was thinking myself. I mean how much can you sustain this kinda hype with so little gameplay. I mean sure, Tetris has been around for decades, but it's been doing that quietly for the most part. With so much noise around at some point people will just get sick of it, I hope Ravio is not building their entire business strategy around this game.

Okay, so I've made an account just to say this: Please stop covering Angry Birds for the next little while. We get it, it's cheap, it's addicting, and it's coming to every major console within the next year. Now please, there are a million other flash games with tons more depth than launching cartoon birds from a slingshot in order to kill green pigs.

Now that's a game that actually has some depth to it. No, but in all seriousness, there are three Angry Birds posts on the main page alone. If that doesn't equate to overexposure I don't know what does.

Joystiq has a tendency to latch on to specific titles and ride them into the ground. See also: Super Meat Boy.

I tried Angry Birds on iOS, didn't really like it.

As far as iOS games go, I much preferred Cut the Rope and Fruit Ninja.

I have played Angry Birds a bit on my Android phone and have yet to see the mass appeal. It's ok as a time killer but not a very fun or deep game IMHO.

@akmdpc Yea I tried out the free version to see what all the insane hype is about - and was amazed how shallow it is. You cant even adjust the strength in which you launch the birds... I remember playing the grenade thrower version of it on the PC a while back and enjoyed it for the most part. But Angry Birds is THAT but less options... I'm stunned how popular it is.

You know, I feel as if some games, like angry birds, just don't have it in them. Honestly, it's just shooting birds to wreck structures... A few years ago this game would have just been a random flash web game on ebaumsworld or something. I don't want to see angry birds become a fleshed-out franchise. If anything, there are other games that deserve it more.

fun fact: 2 years ago it was just a flash game...(first: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/477004
followed by: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/494237)
all they did was steal the concept, and draw stupid birds for 8 months

Joystiq: the Angry Birds blog

Right now, there are THREE Angry Birds posts on the home page (Angry Birds 3DS, the FunnyOrDie video, and now this)... it's a bit much for one game, I think.

I'm not hating on Angry Birds (I think it's a fun casual game), but I think this is a bit too much coverage for it...

It's simple, paisan. Meat Boy is more appealing to the Joystiq masses than Angry Birds is.

I think this company is putting all their eggs in one basket. I would be more concerned with releasing new products. It seems they believe they have a "Mario" on their hands.

a simple game reaching for the stars.

reminds me of moorhuhnjagd (grouse shooting) which was superduperpopular at least in germany 10 years ago and since then there are a lot of crap games coming out each year somehow incooperating the brand.

hopefully the angry birds will go another way.

I hope the reasoning behind Max Payne 3's disappearance is due to Rockstar going back to the drawing board. Now that game looked like a failure. Alan Wake? Not so much.

There were lots of birds in Alan Wake, and they were angry. So why not put that experience to good use?

How about porting a version to PSP that doesn't run like shit? I paid $4 for this thing and it suffers severe slowdown every time you launch a bird. I can't believe they would release the game in this condition, runs just as poorly on PS3 as well. Just a plain old terrible port.

@SolidSnakeEyes It's a good thing then that I avoided it in favor for Hamsterball 2010. I actually liked Marble Madness as a kid and I liked Hamsterball on the PC. The one on PSN isn't that bad though most of the focus is in the 3rd person mode rather than the isometric mode.
