During the "Hollywood Creative Masters" session at CES last month, the executive producer of Conan O'Brien's show, Jeff Ross, spoke on last April's short-lived rumor of talks to relaunch the show on a proposed Xbox Live channel (before the deal was made to bring Conan to TBS), reports Gamasutra contributor Chris Morris (who moderated the CES session). While Ross said it was "interesting to sit and look at it," Microsoft's proposal lacked a clear vision, and he recalled that "a lot of the conversations were, 'Well, it's a show, but it's not a show and there are no breaks, but maybe there are breaks and it's not 60 minutes -- it's this,' and nobody really knew what it was."
"So it was really going to be a leap of faith to jump in with these guys and figure something out which we didn't know," Ross said, later reiterating that "we had some eventual television offers and we basically shied away from the [Xbox thing]."
Last November, Reuters reported that Microsoft's plans for an Xbox Live "television channel" had taken a more conventional shape, with the company looking to license existing TV programming to stream though an Xbox Dashboard application, with a potential for interactive elements.
"I think it's coming and it's big," Ross said of a TV-type feature on Xbox Live, before concluding, "It's just that we weren't in a position at that point to figure out what it was."

He made the right decision although I would have watched it.
Raisin is Conans best character ever.

Agreed.
Since I am not interested in tonight shows, I'm not bothered by this bit of news. I would much rather see more web content make it's way through Xbox Live, like "The Guild".
I would like to see Cinemassacre and That Guy with the Glasses (and associates) be available through Zune. The web is full of rich, funny content. MS needs to be tapping that market as well.

Are ratings or cable subscriptions bad that they need to start thinking how many places they could put TV shows on?
i would need 3 subscriptions, one to watch them online, one to watch them on my TV and one to watch them on my console.

I would totally be interested in a television service on xbox live (without a subscription raise, that is), but I'm glad Conan's show wasn't used as a guinea pig for the service. Thinking of Microsoft's other projects (Game Room, 1 vs 100) that were deserted for no reason or in Game Room's case were never given much support from Microsoft, I'm glad that I don't have to see my favorite late night host take the same gamble.

If you're someone like Conan I don't think you want to limit your audience to those that own and pay for XBOX LIVE. Though I probably would watch it if it were there in addition to TBS as I have gotten accustomed to watching The Guild on the XBOX.
In other news, I'm glad to see the Daily Show / Colbert Report back on Hulu and therefore my PS3.

You just say that because you don't get cable in your retirement home in Kentucky... Also, isn't TBS that channel with all those "urban" sitcoms?

+1 for Arianna Huffington reference (the new editor in chief of AOL)
You know, having a comedy show on XBL would be rather cool. I know I would probably watch it, assuming it were good. I have to admit, since Conan moved to TBS, I haven't caught his show, yet I used to watch him when he was on on NBC. For some reason, I just can't get my mind around watching TBS these days. But then again, I barely watch NBC anymore either, save maybe Thursdays.

It bothers me that TBS has commercials, when you have to pay to get TBS.

@eat it Well, the same can be said for nearly all channels on cable/satellite.
Conan is worthy of uninterrupted broadcasting though.
