The more significant feature is tuner sets, which were first introduced in the NHL series and brought over to football in NCAA Football 11 last year. It's a vehicle for updating specific aspects of a game, circumventing the need for a full title update and the red tape that comes along with it. The goal is to provide more frequent updates addressing individual problems rather than issuing massive updates periodically.
Madden NFL 12 adding tuner sets, surprise onside kicks

EA Tiburon creative director Ian Cummings has passed along the first few details on Madden NFL 12 -- no, not the 3DS game -- over on the Madden Blog, including a video showcasing a new surprise onside kick mechanic. You can check that out past the break.

So does this mean that they won't be releasing a game every year when a content update will suffice? Or is that merely wishful thinking?

@Pharoah4187 When people stop buying the game every year, they will stop making it every year... or if they can successfully transition to an online subscription model -- but that's not likely since MS and Sony do not give "MMO status" without paying them a boatload of money, and they don't let you circumvent their systems with your own patch/content delivery system. When the first party decides to pull their head out of their ass then maybe you can just buy one game disc to get started and then get frequent updates with a small monthly fee.

@Pharoah4187 I know how much people hate to think about it, but the game sells gang busters every year. If you want them to release one every other year... don't buy it and just download rosters.

We don't even know if their will be an NFL season so EA needs to hold their horses.....and people really still play madden?? The game has gotten so ridiculous that its laughable now.

@Kunikos
why? have you played the game? the only difference between 10 and 11 was the roster, and some might argue that the new play system hindered the game as well.
@Jack Kevorkian
yeah that usually happens when you own an exclusive gaming contract to americas favorite sport. If the owners of backbreaker held the same contract, football fans would still buy it. Doesnt mean the game doesnt suck and needs a complete rehaul similar to what NBA2k11 did.

I'm hoping that EA is privy to many of the issues that the Tuner Updates & Patches presented with NCAA Football '11, especially when coupled with the EA Online Pass. Tuners were great in NCAA, they helped tweak the game and provide a great experience, EXCEPT for a fatal flaw:
To get the tuners you had to have EA Online Pass, which is a "premium" service (not really, you get it if you buy the game retail, but if you buy used you have to purchase it), which wouldn't be a problem except that tuners were meant to work in tandem with required game patches & title updates. So, what happened, was that people who did not have online pass were required by MS or Sony to download an update for the game, but they were not allowed to DL the tuner update, and because these two things were supposed to work together, it borked the game for thousands and thousands of people who either didn't have online pass or who didn't enter the code (a lot of people don't notice to read the back of the booklet).
The result in NCAA Football 2011 was that the game worked on day 1 without any patches or tuners, but once the second patch & tuner update were released, it made the game unplayable for anybody without EA Online PAss: They HAD to download the patch (by rule from XBL or PSN), but without the tuners, elements of the game stopped working... Things like recruitment, dynasty progression, the season mode, and almost anything else that the tuners were created to tweak.
I've posted this on my Madden/NCAA site, and theres hundreds of comments about it, but EA has been deaf to this issue. They've dismissed it as a complaint about Online Pass, which it IS NOT... Online pass is fine, IMO, the issue comes when Tuners are treated to work in tandem with title updates.
If EA releases tuners for Madden '12, then they MUST make them available to all people or they will run into a much broader problem than in NCAA '11, which usually sells far fewer copies and gets less attention.
And that's all I have to say about THAT.

Can the say "Tuning Data" one more time in that message? I don't think the gravity of out-of-date "Tuning Data" is expressed fully into the message.

In other news: they haven't released a new tuner set for NHL11 in months and I'm getting irritated when my AI players decide to hang around in the offensive zone and do nothing when my opponent gets a breakaway essentially giving them a free power play.....and then if I manage to bring it back I get called for offsides because I ddin't realize he was still just standing there.
Sorry, I just needed to rant about that somewhere
