Good, cause it was a great game... so great that EA looked at it and said... ON TO THE NEXT ONE...

The game is pretty awesome, especially the Jordan challenges but the online(2k servers) is pretty much trash.

@PR0F3TA It was more, but the reason it sold so well was because of the Jordan modes. Friends who normally wait until NBA2K hits $20-30 before buying (if ever buying at all) ended up picking it up at launch price, and even then all they played was the Jordan mode.

Jordan is the reason this game was a huge success and they'll have a hard time duplicating that with any other player or feature.

@Mach2

1. Put Jordan on the cover
2. Listen to reviewers and fans and analyze the criticisms
3. Go to the drawing board to look at how most of these issues can be improved, fixed, or removed
4. Develop the game with the now veteran staff at the studio
5. Implement great new features, animations, and graphics
6. PROFIT!!!

That's far more accurate of a representation of how NBA 2K11 was made .. coming from a former NBA Live fan.

You forgot the ????? step. I agree with the rest. Kudoes to 2k, i just wish NFL would get their heads out of their asses and let the superior company make a football game.

Well being an online fiend this game was a waste of creativity! They had most of all the pieces to make a full yr of nonstop bballing until i realized why i didnt put much time into 2k10. They servers suck B@llz!!! Who invites pl over their house to play offline now a days? That is the main reason i play live 10 from time to time b/c I can game online

Well it is the best basketball game ever made. It was a big jump from last years. Online is better. Not perfect I still have a hard time getting matches but no where near last years. I love the game.

Hope 2k get their NHL act together again. From the comments, it's rather said to see that their servers are apparently just as bad as they were in NHL 2k8.

it's funny how EA had to pull off a desperate move and buy the NFL license to be the lone NFL game developer.... but 2K games became the lone NBA game developer (not counting SCEA's) by just creating the better game.

yea my little brother was a faithful NBA Live fan but Elite's cancellation forced him to 2K for his NBA fix. he won't shut up about it. he loves how much more stuff you can do on 2K that you can't do on Live/Elite. it just seems like a much deeper, more polished experience. sure Elite's cancellation may have helped but it seems 2K was the better game anyway.

("Sold in," of course, refers to shipments to retailers, rather than actual purchases by consumers.)

I really wish people would just understand that this is how the world works.
Unless the publisher/distributor of a product has agreements with every reseller of their product to report to them the sales of their product (No, for 95% of the global market), "sold" ALWAYS means "shipped to retail". They simply have no other metric to go by.

I'm not trying to imply that JC is a bastard for saying it in his article or anything (I actually applaud him for being precise and not leaving it vague enough for the masses to misinterpret), but rather I think it's sad that the distinction needs to continue to be made at all.

People! Understand. To all these publishers and console manufacturers... SHIPPED = SOLD. They got their money. It's a done deal.
