Belated Metal Gear Online patch detects 'fraudulent network connections'

Bad news, fraudulent network connectors: Your days of slowing down Metal Gear Online are over! Konami has issued a -- way past-due -- patch for the online component of MGS4, which detects "fraudulent" connections and (we assume) blocks them, freeing up all kinds bandwidth for ... hello ... anybody?

Konami patch notes:

"The patch will be able to detect fraudulent network connections, which will slow down the gameplay during the session."

Other changes include:

Drebin Points for weapons have been adjusted.
Weapon parameters have been adjusted.
Skill parameters have been adjusted.
Skills for Unique Characters have been adjusted.
Player Character movement has been increased overall.
Idle Kicks have been implemented for Auto Matching.
Following the launch of the new patch, users can also expect regular background music updates, which will include tracks from the Meta Gear Solid series.

KONAMI RELEASES NEW METAL GEAR® ONLINE PATCH

KONAMI announced today that it has released a new patch for METAL GEAR® ONLINE. The patch will be able to detect fraudulent network connections, which will slow down the gameplay during the session. Other changes include:

Specification Changes
-Drebin Points for weapons have been adjusted.
-Weapon parameters have been adjusted.
-Skill parameters have been adjusted.
-Skills for Unique Characters have been adjusted.
-Player Character movement has been increased overall.
-Idle Kicks have been implemented for Auto Matching.
-Following the launch of the new patch, users can also expect regular background music updates -which will include tracks from the METAL GEAR SOLID series.

METAL GEAR ONLINE is the online multi-player player experience that is included free in the retail version of METAL GEAR SOLID 4: GUNS OF THE PATRIOTS, developed exclusively for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system. Additionally, three expansion packs - GENE, MEME and SCENE - are available for purchase via METAL GEAR ONLINE's in-game shop and KONAMI's shop (https://my.konami.net/mgo/). In addition to traditional methods of payment for purchase, players can now use the PlayStation® Network Wallet prepay system which is now available as a form of payment.

No there are plenty of people still playing. I was just on MGO a few weeks ago. Around 1000 people.

The game is fun, no doubt (as judged by the JPN edition which has more casual players).

B/c the game is so niche in the U.S., that you've got these little egomaniacs that have mastered the "insta-headshot" which makes the game mostly unplayable to the casuals on this side of the ocean.

Whoa there, I can play MGS4 online?
I knew I shouldn't have thrown away the game case. It must've contained this key information on the back.

@Solar Jetman It's on the main menu of the game. Metal Gear Online.

@darrenhupke I think he's trolling you lol. During MGS 1 you had to find a codec code on the back of the game case.

And those of us who bought the game off the PSN had to figure that out the hard (well, actually it was probably easier) way... By going online!

I am going to start playing this again soon (I currently am having trouble downloading game updates recently, I think it may have something to do with AT&T and/or Sony). I used to have a ton of fun with this game, so let's hope it still has that same charm.

I wonder if it fixes the constant spawn deaths. Heh, I doubt it.

Seems like such a waste, I mean... how many people play this?

They could of added trophies, or try an get it away from that konami system. Why is that not possible?

The MP was fun but the brutal sign up process was a major turn off, not to mention the long time spent looking for a game. Then the camp fest.

Server browser works great...

It's a decent online game. I'd advise everyone to avoid use automatiching as it takes forever to find a match. Use free battle and select a game in progress. The only downside to this is that everyone chooses the same bloody map. >.

weren't you able to barf in this game? I vaguely remember doing that in multiplayer and thought it was such an under used combat mechanic.

Those books have really interesting columns.

There actually is not a a bad amount of people that still play it. I try to jump on at least once a week or so still. Fun game and really it is one of the most polite communities out there in my experience.

@The BZA They are pretty polite because nobody rarely has a keyboard or a head set :P
Also I heard the japanese servers are extremely polite and helpful.

Still not worth the hassle of signing up on Konami's stupid site. Besides, the last patch took hours for me to download.

I did both. One didn't download at all (I think that was the http one) and the other one took over 6 hours.

There are so many things wrong with MGO I don't even know where to start. They should've used Sony's servers for the multiplayer and DLC. It was such a pain to register and buy DLC from Konami's crappy half-assed website. I forgot you had a separate friends list in MGO than your PSN account until I logged on to it a couple months back because of Konami making you sign into their stupid servers.

I had a blast with it when it first came out, but that was also my first online PS3 game so I didn't know what to expect from online games. I just hope Konami doesn't ever do anything like that for any of their other games. Ever.

fun game, I'm shocked they patched it. Kojima productions made a great MP game with this, it just had a stupid sign up process, (PSN, and konami login) the DLC also made huge gaps in the player base.

They should really re release MGS4 and make it function through PSN (ya know, like everyone else), add trophies, and some new content.
Everyone would eat that up!

This idea is just too good. Usually means it wont happen unfortunately.

my younger brother love this game online, everytime i call home he has a story to tell me, crazy how the gun fights are sometimes.

Maybe this is a sign of things to come soon???

Darn! I guess I can't play this game on the neighbor's wi-fi I'm stealing any longer ;)

What Konami needs to do, if the want to keep this update relevant along with Metal Gear Online, is to release it on PSN as a standalone game for $14.99.

All they would need to do is make it work seamlessly with PSN accounts, really, and that would solve the sign up issues and the "where is everybody?" issue. Then give all the DLC out for free.

As for the campers....They explode after staying in a spot for a certain amount of time!

Seriously though, MGO is a great online game. All Konami needs to do it prove to us that its still worth it.

mgo is a great game. im gonna start playing it again. its too bad its not everyone's cup of tea, it does alot of things different then other games. its nice when you want a change of pace from call of duty and battlefield

I've recently started playing MGO again...I don't know why. overall, the community is horrible. Every other person screams about Kill Stealing, lag, and are in general...well..12 year olds. And yet...I keep coming back to it...Now if only they would reduce the price on the expansions to make them affordable.

Its a shame MGO is so sparse these days. It was a good game. This is what happens from years of non-support and neglect from devs.
