Two things:
First, this sounds this sounds a but like MW2's problem, and IW made a big hubaloo about how it's all Sony's fault, yet this is getting fixed with a simple patch? I call shananigans.

Second, can anyone explain to me, in detail, how the money earning system in this game works? I'm so lost...

I don't know, man. I was watching the Giant Bomb QL of this game and the guy was actually going on pretty good streaks, yet whenever he died, all of his earnings reset to zero. From what he said, you most likely have to go on pretty massive killstreaks to make a profit.

You get money per kill. Headshots and multikills give you more money. If you lose or your team loses a round you get pity money to spend.

Every round you get to buy your load out or you can stick with your default pistol and no primary and horde the money for better guns for later rounds.

If you dont die in a round you get to keep your money, your weapons and you get a victory bonus.

The game also has an xp system that levels up your rank that lets you unlock more guns and perks

@Einlander
I've played the game, so I've figured that much out, but the problem is is that unless I do just use the pistol, I never ever earn money. I'm almost constantly at $2400, and I'm just wondering if I'm missing something...

@King Johngie the Fourth do you buy armor or that $1500 gun? if you survive a round and dont kill anyone you only get enough to get you back to start. if you die and lose it hurts. But i only play map specific, so death match might be different

Well, I only play tdm, and no matter how badass I do in a life, I always end up with that useless $2400. If I use the pistol and only the pistol, no 'nades or armour, I usually end up with around 3 grand, and it still never changes.

@gettinmoney662 I posted this before, and I'll post it again, since people are too busy licking Sony's tender places to learn anything about... well... anything.

CFW dev KaKaRoTo's response to another ignorant fanboy accusing him of hacking MW2:

Hi [private],

I get a lot of hate mail recently from people who have no idea about who I am and what I do. Thank you for being polite and respectful. For this reason, you are the first one to whom I will reply.

I do not hack MW2, I don’t have MW2, I never bought it and never tried it. I hate FPS shooters, the only ones I ever played were Resistance 2 and Killzone 2, and I never played those in multiplayer, only single player campaigns.

I am not responsible for whoever is hacking your MW2 servers, the real people to yell at are those 10 years olds in their basement thinking they’re all great for doing stuff like that.

They should be reported and their account banned, but that is beyond my control.

What I do however is completely different, I defend you, I defend you from Sony’s unacceptable behavior. Imagine if for some reason, Microsoft or Apple (Windows or Mac OSX) were acting like Sony, and that you couldn’t access anything on your computer without their authorization? You want to install Skype, you can’t because Microsoft didn’t “approve” it.. because they want you to use MSN Messenger instead… Then where is your freedom on your own machine ?

Also, what about the fact that they removed Linux support. Sony removed an advertised feature! I bought my PS3 *because* it had linux support, then they removed it. Maybe you didn’t use it, maybe very few people used that feature, but that is beyond the point. Just recently, Norway came to the conclusion that what Sony did was unlawful and there are countless lawsuits against what they did. And this sets a precedent.

Imagine if tomorrow Sony says “in the next firmware update, we will remove from the PS3 support of playing Bluray movies and DVDs”.. you bought the PS3 for that, you use that feature (or maybe you don’t, the issue is that someone else does), and they can just remove an advertised feature? It’s illegal, but why can they do it even if it’s illegal? For one simple reason, they have total control over the machine. They could very well do it, then say “pay a 100$ subscription per year to enable that feature”. The machine *can* do it, it did before, but they block it on purpose because they don’t care about their customers.

Recently George Hotz got sued by Sony because he accessed *HIS* PS3 system that he bought. He owns it, if he wants to put it in a blender or throw it out the window, it’s his right, but Sony sues him for “hacking into a protected computer owned by Sony”.. so for them, that PS3 that you own and that you bought with your hard-earned money is NOT YOURS, it’s still theirs, it’s like you rented it (but you didn’t). If you try to access your own computer, they could sue you, just as if you tried to hack into your bank’s server somewhere.. and that isn’t right.
Sony tries to make it seem like they own your PS3 and they own the PS3 that is in everyone’s houses across the world, and that simply isn’t right and it should be made illegal for them to act that way.

Long story short, this is what I do, I let people gain access to the hardware they own, what I do is 100% legal in my country (Canada), and it is equivalent to the recent DMCA Exemption for jailbreaking phones. Now, if someone uses that to do nasty things, you have two people to blame :
1 – the stupid kid who did it
2 – the developers of MW2 that didn’t write their program correctly.

There are many FPS shooters on the PC, and people can install what they want on their PC, that doesn’t make it impossible to play an FPS game on a PC, simply because the developers write their code correctly to prevents the cheaters from cheating.

Anyways, I hope that my explanation makes everything clearer to you, and that you will not judge me for what I do, because I am not a cheater, I am a freedom fighter.

Thank you,
KaKaRoTo

@mmmfishtacos Hm, nothing's been "messed up" for me, so you're wrong on that count.

They removed OtherOS from the slims before Geohot hacked his fat, even though slims are perfectly capable of running OtherOS (as the hackers have proven), so your claim that Sony would have left it in the fats is pure speculative BS.

And so what if he's in a lawsuit? If (hopefully "when") it's found that jailbreaking the PS3 is as legal as jailbreaking the iPhone, then it will be a net positive, both for Geohot and the public in general.

The slim model was never advertised to have OtherOS ( again half ass anyway ) So how did they take something away from a system that never shipped with it. I don't know why Sony didn't include it. But no one does. It isn't BS, the removed it after he ran his mouth about hacking it. Sony must have thought/known that it could be cracked from Other OS. So it was removed. Why are you sucking this guys gentleman sausage? I hope they nail his ass to a steak, Problem with hacking a console vs a phone, it effects millions of users in a bad way. If you crack you phone, no big deal. There's no online community to effect.

I like the part where all it takes to be a freedom fighter is to jailbreak products. Doesn't seem self-aggrandizing at all right? I guess Sony is calling out the firing squad to kill the jail breakers huh? Get real. Its litigation and not unforseen considering the circumstances. Get a legal fund together before "freedom fighting" next time. It also really get to have freedom without any responsibility I know but the reality is people should consider the consequences of their actions all the time even if they they are doing the right thing. To say "here is what I did" by itself without "here is what its probably going to be used for" is just not being realistic about it. He should have just said "I don't like what Sony did, I'm going to jailbreak their products, and I don't care what its used for when I show others how."

This type of stuff, cheating, lack of integrity/security for games, etc., is the consequences of those actions.

No, it was never included with the slims. Why not? They're completely capable of running OtherOS. What other functionality did the fats have that the slims did not? NONE. So yes, OtherOS was a function that was *removed* from the PS3 system. I guess they never removed back-compat either. It was never offered on anything but 20/60GBs, so by your logic it wasn't removed.

And the little security FW updates "affect me?" Oh god! I have to wait ten extra minutes before playing vidja-games! (oh wait, I usually don't, because I have PS+, and it auto-updates) That's totally comparable to removing functionality!

"So because it doesn't effect you it's okay?"
"I don't want to hear about removal of other OS, it was half ass anyway."

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.... hilarious little hypocrite.

Yeah, the "freedom fighter" part is a bit dramatic, but he is working toward granting freedom in a particular area, polemics notwithstanding.

And again (I don't know why people can't grasp this concept), despite what the "hackers=evil" crowd may think, Geohot/fail0verflow/etc... are NOT responsible for the actions of other cheaters or pirates. If I give you a hammer, you can build a house or bash a head. Whatever you decide to do, it's NOT MY FAULT for giving you a hammer. People try to act like these hackers should take personal responsibility for their actions, yet what the complainers really want is for them to take personal responsibility for OTHER PEOPLE'S actions, probably because the little bitch-ass cheaters and pirates are nameless, and the complainers, in all their whiny impotence, need SOMEone on which to pin the blame.

@End User They never went back a took away BC for people that had it installed on their system. They removed didn't include it in recent models and then charged you LESS for the system. What did you expect them to do when everyone was holding pitch forks demanding a lower price. The people who paid the price got BC. Other OS effect .2 percent of the community. 99.98 percent of the user group it didn't matter. See the difference? You really think Sony has no right to try to protect what they have built and the community built around it? I'm not against people who hack to run (imo poorly built ) apps and firmware as a hobby but it can't be contained to just that. It hurts more people than it helps. So guess what needs to go?

@End User Fing come on... Lets try this, out of 100 people giving a hammer how many use it to build and how many use it to kill someone? I'd say 99 people use it to build and one to kill. Now with hacking, how many people out of 100 use it to build? 1. How many use it to kill? 99. Do you understand Guilt by association? Until the home brew crowed can disassociate them self's with hackers it will always be this way. But guess what hacking and home brew go hand an hand. If home brew is present the same is true about hacking. Until some thing changes they are the same.

@mmmfishtacos So they took out OtherOS and charged the *same* for the slim. Gotcha.

Your figures about the number of people that used OtherOS are purely speculatory, and ultimately irrelevant. They still removed a feature. Also, your claimed reasons for its removal is also speculatory. Obviously removal of OtherOS didn't do squat to secure the system. Even with OtherOS, Geohot used an elaborate, unreliable, and difficult-to-replicate *hardware* hack, that had very limited actual functionality. Now, *without* OtherOS, the hackers have created a purely software-based hack that is far more effective in opening the system, thanks to Sony's *faulty* security. Also, there's just as much (if not more) validity to the speculation that they pulled OtherOS because they didn't want to support keep supporting the Linux drivers, and Geohot was used as an excuse.

Again, they didn't include OtherOS in the slims *before* Geohot's first hack.

And how in the world would you know how "poorly built" any of the homebrew is? If it's so poorly built, why does it get your panties in a bunch?

Let's try this... if those 99 people build houses, and no one says anything, but then one person smashes a head and it's all over the news that "Hammers used to smash heads!" then which are you going to have an opinion on? All I see on these mainstream game sites is "Cheaters do so and so because of hack," and almost nothing about the non-cheating, non-pirating homebrew. And for people like you, who remain wilfully ignorant of the legitimate homebrew developments, all you know/care about are the cheaters, and that's all you base your opinion on.

*Most* people use bittorrents and file-sharing for piracy. Should that be shut down as well?

Yes, I understand guilt by association. It's bullshit. But you and a thousand others are engaging in it on a regular basis. The homebrew crowd DOES diassociate themselves from the cheats and pirates, as evidenced by Kakaroto's above email. Unfortunately, people like you insist on ignoring that and repeatedly lumping them all together. Many of the hacker/homebrew forums even explicitly tell people not to discuss cheating or pirating or post any pirating links. How exactly would you propose they disassociate themselves?

@End User I've unlocked my Iphone and a psp at one time. And both sucked ass, it slowed down both systems to the point it wasn't worth having and i reverted them back. Sorry if you actually feel these things are an upgrade. Real asps>home brew apps. Who care it other os was removed from the slim. People knew it wouldn't have it. So they could have just bought a fat and been done.

"So they took out OtherOS and charged the *same* for the slim. Gotcha" the price dropped with the announcement of the slim. So no they charged you less for not including it.

Now, *without* OtherOS, the hackers have "created". They didn't create anything, they simply stole the keys and that's what enabled them to run their own software.

I might be wrong about the number of people that use other os, but it pails in comprehension to the people that don't or even bought their system for that purpose. Maybe just maybe Sony knows their system better than you, and before the keys where handed out OS was an obvious week point. They would have never removed it from the fats if it wasn't true. They knew doing so would bring bad press. It seems to me they had their hands tied.
