Torchlight 2 'probably' delayed to July, Runic says
27
Speaking to Digital Spy, Runic CEO Max Schaefer revealed that Torchlight 2 will likely miss its original May–June release window. According to Schaefer, the game will now "probably" be released this July. Apparently the time Runic had to spend on the extra interface design for the upcoming Xbox Live Arcade version of Torchlight is to blame for the sequel's delay, though Schaefer noted that development is "going great" otherwise.
Schaefer added that Torchlight 2 should receive some "optimizations and technical improvements," originally created for the XBLA Torchlight. Notably, the sequel should now benefit from reduced load times and improved animation. The XBLA version of Torchlight will be released on March 9.

For a game thats coming out relatively soon we really haven't seen a lot of it. Sounds good though.

I bought Torchlight on PC.
I'll rebuy it on 360 while I wait.
And then I'll probably do the same for future Torchlight games. Gotta support this awesome developer.

Well atleast I can play Torchlight on the 360 while we wait but wish Torchlight 2 would have come out sooner. It still will be awesome in July!

That's cool Runic. At least you guys are making progress. I'm still playing though the game for like the 17th time with a pile of mods thrown in.

Blizzard: "The Diablo 3 release date is leaning towards 2012. We don't know what month and we don't care. Eat it."
*goes back to drinking pina colada on private yacht surrounded by women in bikinis*
Runic: "Um...We need another month for Torchlight 2. Is that ok? We humbly beg your forgiveness. If it pleases you we will flog ourselves repeatedly for this injustice."
(actual quotes that I didnt make up at all) I will probably buy both games.

So these guys will have put out Torchlight, Torchlight XBLA, and Torchlight 2 with work being done on a Torchlight MMO in less than 1/2 the time Diablo 3 has been in development.
Thats....kinda sad, really.

To be fair, Diablo 3 is on a completely different scale and depth compared to any of the Torchlight games.
That's not to say the Torchlight games are bad, they're great for what they are.

Torchlight did not disappoint. Coop in Torchlight will not either.

It's good to see Schaefer, Baldree, and the other Flagship refugees are doing good for themselves at Runic. I had my doubts at first but they proved true that with the right people in management they could accomplish the Blizzard formula. Really glad to see the work on Mythos did not go to waste.

with diablo 3 nowhere in sight, torchlight 2 with co-op should be a higher priority than an xbox live port.

Christmas in July! This was THE game that got me back into PC gaming. I bought it from Best Buy and again from Steam when there was a huge debacle with the box version getting the patch. A sequel cannot come out fast enough.

That's a bit disappointing, I hope that the delay doesn't lend it to being squashed by Diablo III. I really liked the first one, am looking forward to an XBLA replay and really want the sequel.
However, Diablo III is the king and if this releases too late it'll probably be rug swept before long.

Multiplayer will be a great addition, but there's one other thing that keeps me from playing Torchlight much: the difficulty. Even on the hardest difficulty, there is absolutely no challenge what-so-ever. I'm not going out of my way to over-level or anything-- been sticking pretty tightly to the main quest. All I have are passive skills with my vanquisher and level 1 attack skills. I obliterate everything. A level 1 trap (shock, devouring, flechette, take your pick, they all work) and a chain of explosive shots takes down any enemy including bosses in no time.
The game has potential, but at this point it reminds me of taking a Diablo II sorceress with frozen orb into the den of evil on normal.
