So what you're saying is that Mass Effect 3 will be the greatest thing ever?

Pretty much, this is literally going to be the best game ever created.

Oh god, Clint Mansell is amazing. That's a pretty high profile person for a video game to pick up. I loved the sound track fro ME2, I can't wait to get my hands on some epicness from a musical mastermind when the next one comes out.

Hans Zimmer did the soundtrack for Modern Warfare 2. Looks like the game companies are pulling in the big dogs for their big games.

As long as the game still retains (or rather reattains from ME1) its Blade Runner vibe - I'm good.

I think the composer for the MGS games was some big movie composer too.

@eat it

Yeah, that was Harry Gregson-Williams. He's done movies like Prince of Persia, Chronicles of Narnia, and Kingdom of Heaven.

MGS2 was the first time I ever saw a big time guy like that in the game industry. He really knows how to do "intense" when he wants to. Great stuff.

Danny Elfman worked on the original Fable, which was way before ME2.

It's not very surprising considering mass effect 2 probably made more money than all those Aronofsky films combined.

@oJMan240o Jack Wall is no Clint Mansell, but he's a fine composer in his own right.
One of the best specific to the game industry for that matter.
Seems like you are finding reasons to hate where there are none.

@oJMan240o I think you're reading too much into a simple comment and transposing your own biases.

I simply said that I was gutted for Jack Wall if he's been booted off the project after the first two.

@RonnocoMail I really liked Jack Wall's soundtracks for ME1 and ME2.

They should have kept him to preserve continuity. I guess we can expect the ME3 soundtrack to sound less like a 1980s sci-fi film and more like a modern movie score.

This is not what I read.

What I read is "Clint Mansell & Jack Wall Epic Teamup".

In which no one loses.

There can be more than one composer on a game.

I can't remember the name of the movie, but I recall seeing the special feature for it where there were actually 3-4 composers working on one soundtrack. They each had their own special talent and that allowed for a unique cross-collaboration as well as certain composers fitting one scene better than another.

To be fair, Jack Wall did amazing things for Mass Effect. ME1 is still one of my favorite soundtracks ever. ME2 lost some of the magic.

However, this isn't something new to any media that becomes a series. Harry Potter is a great example. The first three movies were conducted by John Williams who, lets face it, is one of the biggest names ever. But he was later replaced by Patrick Doyle, who was replaced by Nicholas Hooper, who has since been replaced by Alexandre Desplat for the Dealthy Hallows movies.

In that mix Nicholas Hooper has been my favorite but he really had a lot of work done for him by John Williams who created a lot of the themes. So, if Clint Mansell wants to create any sort of continuity he will have to refer to the work of Jack Wall.

@RonnocoMail I thought you were saying something along the lines of Mansell's work being gutted for the sake of working with Wall. That what it came off as to me. I apologize for the misunderstanding, but that isn't the way we use gutted where I'm from.

I loved the ME and ME2 soundtracks along with Jade Empire. My problem with Jack Wall leaving is that if he can be switched out with someone else than anyone in Bioware can.

My first thought was that EA was the one that made this decision. As good as Clint Mansell may be, Jack Wall's soundtrack *is* Mass Effect. I have a huge fear that little by little key people will start getting replaced (in future games) ultimately leaving Bioware an empty shell.

maybe im just being paranoid...

@slickie Actually, I'm betting it won't sound much at all like your average big movie soundtrack. Ever seen Moon? Mansell did the music for that, and something in that style would be fantastic for ME3.

@Misfit Toy I believe you're thinking of Kick-Ass. That score was written between John Murphy, Henry Jackman, Marius de Vries and Ilan Eshkeri. Also, Danny Elfman wrote a cue.

(Yeah, yeah, I know, not original pieces. Still, cool trivia.)

@PreGHz Why are you preaching to me about The Fountain? It's my favourite film, it's my favourite score, it's got my favourite performance of the last decade (Hugh Jackman as Tommy Creo), and it signified who my favourite working director is.

I definitely haven't forgotten about The Fountain, and neither did Joystiq (it's in the article).

I'm not big on movies, but I knew I knew that name somewhere.

Clint Mansell did the soundtrack for Smokin' Aces. A largely forgettable, yet fun movie and I'm sure it's kind of a disgrace to the guy to only be known to me for that, but the only memorable portion of the flick was, you guessed it, the music. It was godlike.

Especially during the ending, which was MADE by the music.
