We bet that your household in the mid-'90s resembled our household in the mid-'90s -- filled with concerned adults, watching their children periodically and meticulously sweeping through rooms, communicating through stern hand gestures and occasional orders to "slice the pie." Then again, maybe Police Quest: SWAT and its sequel didn't penetrate the walls and minds of your family as potently as it did ours, which would be a sad, sad fate indeed.
You can rectify your oversight (or relive those precious childhood memories) by grabbing Police Quest SWAT 1 and 2 on GOG, available now for $9.99. The latter half of the pair is actually a pretty deep tactical strategy title -- but the original, a pseudo-FMV adventure game, is the one you'd be incredibly foolhardy to miss. (Here's a protip: You're not supposed to shoot, like, anyone. Why do you carry around a substantial amount of guns and ammo? It is a mystery.)

SWAT and Police Quest were hilarious because of their "realistic" scenarios and how you can completely blunder them up, paired up with Sierra's insanely anal ordering of everything.

I still remember trying to arrest the drunk chick in the park, it ended it in a few ways: i assaulted her, i drowned her, i hit her. Come to think of it...I never arrested her, where is the fun in that ?

All I remember was the chief police guy giving a speech and then gun shots firing followed by him saying, "The shit's just hit the fan". Then that impossible first mission where the grandma always jumps out and kills you. I hated and loved this game.

@PrinceWitherdick Holy hell i just remembered playing this game, i was like 8 and i could never get past the first mission. The grandma that went off her meds and locked herself in the house and wouldnt come out. I remember it was always go in the front shed be hiding in the bath tub and you could either try to talk her out and shed shoot you or you could just shoot her first and fail. The one time i got past it i remember going to the dude holding the chick hostage in the warehouse i think and hed always kill her/himself or blow me away for hiding behind a wall haha

Damn. The impossible old lady was only the first mission? I thought I was remembering a mission further into the game.

Ahahaha, I just remember smashing into a house and there was an old lady behind a shower curtain that I kept blasting. I'm sorry, but even though I'm SWAT in that game, I got scared and decided to just shoot anything that moved.

I still have my copy of SWAT 2! I loved that game, but man, was it clunky trying to command all your guys around, especially if the bullets started flying. At least as the cops; just set a few booby traps and snipers and the terrorists had an easy time.
Wow, this game was back.before foreign terrorists were the thing.

@Zolroy Methinks that SWAT 3 & 4 are too "new" for GOG. (Although the Witcher 2 does make me think they could do it.) Unill now, I never even knew that SWAT was part of Police Quest (I only played SWAT 3 & 4, both of which were FPSs.)

@jackburnt Haha, god I forgot about that and now it's stuck in my head again. And now it reminds me of the sniper range and how hard I studied to figure out how I needed to adjust the scope to be the test...
