@Muscle Rider I love it when people complain about Pokemon 'always being the same thing', then turn around and praise Call of Duty games or the newest 500th Street Fighter revision

and its not even a matter of 'games aren't fresh anymore', it more... if someones having fun, who gives a damn? If you don't like it, who gives a damn?

This whole selective appreciation thing is silly.

@Riley Freeman Not quite the same idea. The Pokemon games include relatively minor changes in each iteration and aren't really all that complex to begin with. It's more like a specific type of sandwich that, while some people may put pickles on it and some might use a slightly different type of bread, tastes pretty similar most of the time.

No because each sandwich is different enough that they would taste different. That, however, is not the case with pokemon as they all leave the same stale taste with each iteration.

Then think of Pokemon like sex, and ever new version is like a new position. Sure some might be easier, and some may be harder, and some are a little more stressful, but at the end of the day, its still awesome.

...Well, if you're not, people aren't doing it right.

I personally never get sick of Pokemon, I played Blue and have played and loved every game since then... With the exception of those Gamecube ones. Man, they were horrible. If you're going to hate on a Pokemon game, hate on those. Leave the good ones alone, desperate trolls.

If you've played any Mario, you've played them all.
If you've played any Halo, you've played them all.
If you've played any Call of Duty, you've played them all.
If you've played any Zelda, you've played them all.
If you've played any Megaman, you've played them all.
If you've played any Madden, you've played them all.
If you've played any Killzone, you've played them all.
etc...

Honestly, that statement can be said about any series. And you know what? It's always a crap line. The purpose of a sequel is to continue an established series. There are always changes here and there, but it's mostly the same game every time. And you know why? Sequels are usually made to cash in on the success of the previous game, because people liked it as it was.

In other words... it's easier to say you don't like something or it doesn't appeal to you. That's fine. Statements like your first post come off as trollish, though.

Wrong. A lot of the games you've listed have enough differences from their previous games that you can warrant a purchase. And a sequel does not mean it's going to be the same thing, so its a stupid argument to make that "if you've played X game series, you played them all" when that isn't always the case. The Pokemon franchise is basically the Madden of Nintendo games since they both have a minimal way of updating their games. The only clear difference is Nintendo doesn't release a yearly Pokemon.

And pretty much every single generation of Pokemon games has had a major mechanical change.

R/B/Y>G/S/C gave us two new types and split up the Special stat.

G/S/C>R/S/E gave us Double Battles and Abilities, and Natures.

R/S/E>D/P/Pl gave us the Physical/Special split for attacks, previously a move was determined to be physical or special dependent on the type of the move itself, so a Fire Punch is Physical whereas Fire Blast stays Special.

D/P/Pl>B/W/? is giving us Triple Battles.

So yes, if you only look at the surface of the Pokemon games, they'll look the same. However, if you actually go deeper, the games have changed quite a lot.

Yeah I'm actually gonna have to agree with Muscle Rider here.
To say that the changes between each new Zelda game and each new Pokemon game are equal would be a lie.
Not that I'm saying Pokemon is bad, I still think they're pretty sweet

I'm not saying they're equal in their differences. I'm saying that the phrase itself is entirely bunk.
Compare R/B/G/Y to B/W and it's a world of differences between the Pokémon games. The Pokémon series is a series of gradual evolution, not grand revolution. Each sequel is more complex and deeper in its content and battle system than the previous.

@BPMOmega XBL PSN Steam Exactly Omega. Play Black and White and try to play Red and Blue again. On the surface, the 'collect 8 badges and battle' scenario is the same, but the games are a massive leap over the originals which are now very dated with very limited mechanics. I'd say they've gone further than Zelda series which hasn't really changed much since A Link to the Past.

I'd say you have a good point, but pokemon has been around for a long time, even longer than some of the games you mentioned that you claim stay the same through each iteration. I'll give you Halo, CoD, and Madden, but do you really want Pokemon to be in that boat? Pokemon has been around for almost 13 years, and in that time the farthest in innovation we've received are more in-depth stats for each pokemon and "triple" battles.

Compare that to Mario who in 11 years went from 2D platforming to changing the genre with the first fully 3D platformer, or even Zelda, which made the transition from being exploration heavy in the first few, to the combat focused ones we have now. Compared to those, the changes in Pokemon look like the yearly madden additions that make the game seem deeper than it actually is.

If they get rid of needing HM moves to traverse the world I will give this serious consideration. Those things are such a drag, if they are looking for a way for you to fulfill certain conditions before you advance, they should just give you an inflatable dingy instead of surf and some hedge clippers instead of having to use cut and so on.

@Onomah HMs are still present, but I've heard that HMs like Cut and Strength are hardly used. Surf and Fly are probably the only ones you'll be using often.

I've only used Cut once or twice on the japanese version I think. HMs are still there, but they're used more to access optional areas rather that being forced down your throat to advance.

@Onomah You wanna know what would be nice...more than 4 moves, in the cartoons Pikachu has used many more than 4 moves, do we assume he forgot a move but then he goes and uses 3 different lightening attacks along with iron tail, quick attack, and volt tackle...6 moves would be better than 4....but it's not like it matters I've been buying Pokemon games since the original Pokemon Gold and with Black & White coming out, it will be the first time I buy both versions.

To be fair, Surf is one of the best Water-type attacks in the game. Nice Power, Accuracy, and PP. So there really isn't a problem with it being an HM.

The biggest problem I had with HMs was that you had to delete TMs to get them, most of the time, but now TMs are infinite use as well so there is no problem there.

To be fair, none of those games have anywhere near the amount of assets to animate as the Pokemon games do. We're talking over 600 unique Pokemon they'd have to give animations to, so it's not surprising that the animations in Black/White are a bit limited, if a decent improvement nonetheless.

Same types, but the new pokemon have base stats and abilities all their own.

Dream world and rotation add another layer to the gameplay, it's pretty nice for the competitors.

Its cuz the black pokemon causes contrast with the white background! If you played pokemon white, and the bg was black, that would make less sense! and putting a white pokemon on a white bg looks like crap.
