Microsoft and Nokia have entered a "broad strategic partnership" under which the phone maker will adopt Windows Phone as its "principal smartphone strategy," the two companies announced today. While Nokia didn't highlight Xbox Live in its roll call of some of the broader terms of the deal, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer -- with a bit of a practiced grin -- did namedrop the cross-platform gaming service in a short video announcement.
"In this partnership with Nokia," Ballmer concisely summed up, "Microsoft brings its Windows Phone software and the brands that mobile consumers want, like Bing, Office and, of course, Xbox Live."

So they're not supposed to try and compete? I hope you never become a business executive.
"Mr. Kevorkian, what should the company do to try and beat our competitors?"
Jack Kevorkian: "Well...everyone else is already established and doing quite well...So let's not do anything!"
"But how will the company grow and make money?"
Jack Kevorkian: "..."

@Jack Kevorkian I dunno, I like Bing. It has a relatively clean interface, gives me the results I am looking for, and through Bing Rewards gives me for just searching like I would normally. Said points can be redeemed for anything from a donation to a charity to Microsoft points.
Bing is a pretty nice service if you ask me.

Bing Rewards is a nice program. It gives me an excuse to fire up IE and google - I mean, "bing" phrases like "punch babies," "smoke weed," and "smack hoes" until I've met my points quota for the day, at which point I run back to Firefox and Google.

I just like to have dumb fun with it. But yeah, actually putting forth the effort to maximize those points gets tiresome quickly :-T Gotta get lazy.

I haven't heard anyone asking for Bing, either.
Though personally, I like having Bing around. It's amusing to see how Microsoft deals with an issue when they can't just throw money at it to make it succeed.

I used to use Google for everything search, but I was intrigued by Bing and decided to give it a try. I soon discovered that Bing does everything I require very well and some things even better. If you still haven't given Bing an honest try, you're just a biased fanboy. By the way I also have a WP7 device (I'm sending this from my HTC HD7), which has deep Bing integration. Overall its a slick, refined, and very functional phone app that I use everyday.

I had the smaller Nokia with the internal antenna and that thing was built like a truck, unlike my iPhone 3G which is becoming more and more worthless by the day.
I'm kind of excited to see how these new MS phones turn out. Now if they'd only put them on a decent network...

I had a similar model phone literally fall out of my truck at highway speed and still survive in normal operating condition. If I tried that with any phone I purchased in the last 3 years, it would've made a nice nest for a rodent or desperate bird.

"Xbox Live" is coming through Nokia phones the same way as the current Samsung phone. That is, you'll be able to view stats and they'll have some phone games that they refer to in commercials as "playing Xbox Live".

If you read up on any of this stuff, you'd know that phone-to-console real-time gaming is coming. We don't know when, but it has been promised. People are acting as if WP7 has been out for years instead of mere months. Its in its infancy, OK? Patience and the internet don't mix.

If Xbox LIVE were cross platform, as in, all my Live games were available wherever LIVE was available, then I might be interested in a Windows phone. Until that time (read never) I'm not interested.

This is a great for Microsoft, but they really need to update their Windows 7 phone platform. I've had once since launch, and it's nowhere near as good as iPhone or Android. There's speculation that Cut and Paste will be released next week, and then there's a bigger update coming in March. Cut and Paste isn't a big deal to me, but I would like to see VPN, the ability to add ring tones (Hello? It's a phone) and the ability for more customization of the main screen-- how about a bigger clock!!. Having more apps would be great... releases are slow to arrive and are somewhat disappointing.
Right now there's not much in Windows 7 phone that would cause me to recommend it to others. Xbox Live integration is cool. The tiles are a nice concept that's not fully utilized among developers (ie tiles that update). The OS certainly shows promise though. I just hope Microsoft can add functionality quicky and not rest on what they initially shipped.

Strange, but maybe that's what they gotta do. It's a two-company market with everybody else sharing #3. They shouldn't just stop at Nokia, they should talk to HP and MAYBE even talk RIM out of Android (merge BB with Exchange or something... hey it could happen). Just rally up all the #3s. There is just too much darn Android out there and little variety between 'em (and none with iphone, the white one still isn't even out yet).
MS knows that they need to make a significant dent in mobile. Mobile is the present and the future. Sony kind of gets this too since they recently said they don't want to stop at Android for the PS app store thingy and will consider iOS and EVEN Winmo. (that doesn't say much for ngp though)
