War For Cybertron was such an underrated game

It was an ok-ish game, it had a few flaws that would have been rather easy to remove (ammo/weapon spacing, random weapon spawns instead of fixed and very variable difficulty within difficulty levels).

What made it awesome was the story that felt true to the old G1 series transformers (not Michael Bay's, nor the Armada or - god forbid - Beast Master series). And, of course, the voice actors from the original series.

@Raniz85 It was Beast Wars and I kind of enjoyed that series. The tie-in to the original Autobots and Decepticons was pretty neat, having a dormant Optimus Prime and all that.

I came to mention it.

It got pretty good reviews. The company said when they were contracted to do it, they were told explicitly to NOT make it anything like the movie, to base it as far away from the movie as they could, so they did it based on the original cartoon.

Seems like the people having them make it knew another game based on the movie would suck.

@Drakkenfyre

I guess they've changed their mind?

I find this news pretty troubling. Michael Bay has performed a Lucasian task in undoing everything that was once cool about Transformers. I don't want an interactive recreation of his efforts.

WfC had its share of issues, but they didn't include a lack of racial stereotype-bots or things not looking like random pieces of trash after leaving vehicle mode.

They have neither the touch, nor the power!

If High Moon can manage to keep Michael Bay out of the game they can very well suceed.

Sadly, I assume that the game and movie will follow the same storyline which of course means that Megatron will be a spiky mess, Starscream will respect his role and not try to usurp Megatron's position as leader and Optimus Prime will be covered in flames...

@Raniz85 The game is not directly tied to the movie. It's a stand-alone plot.

I thought the first Transformers was good. The second one felt racist to me with the stupid hip hop robots. I hope this one is good.

This could go either way, especially if they rush it to release it alongside the movie. But I hope for the best. I loved War for Cybertron.

Uhhhhh aren't these guys doing a sequel to WFC? Only good thing is that this is supposed to be a prequel, hopefully meaning it can sidestep shoving in all the movies bits for a shitty game.

I really must appreciate what they've done for T3. They've given it a god-awful subtitle to let me know ahead of time that the movie itself is going to be god-awful.

Michael Bay must still feel like there's life left still in my childhood that must be strangled out.

If I met the man, I'd want to punch him.

Damn it. NO! Make a sequel to WFC, not a movie tie in game. The story leading up to the events of G1 was spot on, and I was really hoping for a sequel. This was not the way to go.

You guys are crazy. Bay literally was BORN to make these movies, they are like action porn. Of course he has to throw in all the kiddie jokes and stupid humor to reach a wide audience, but for the most part they are pretty good popcorn flicks. The fight scene in T2 with Prime versus the Decepticons in the forest was outstanding.

Everyone who wants every old school IP to be EXACTLY as they remember it has to realize that a lot has changed since Prime died in 1986. Don't let your preconceptions get in the way of enjoying a good ole American action flick complete with all of the prerequisite comic relief and silly plot holes.

Not every remake of an old IP is going to be BSG for pete's sakes.

@Rommel102 We don't want an old school movie to be exactly like we remember it. We just want a good movie. If we're feeling uppity, maybe we'll demand robots that don't look like pieces of metal thrown into a trash compacter and then detailed with flames.

And while I'm being snippy, Transformers 2 lost the right to be called a "popcorn flick" when Bay decided it should be 2 hours 30 minutes long.

@Rommel102 Well... the effects of both movies were awesome... But c'mon... The story is really "meh"
On the second one... God, they spent the whole movie after that weapon that Optimus destroyed with ONE shot...

I loved War for Cybertron, even the multiplayer mode. I'm not a big multiplayer person or much for shooters, but it was really fun. Too bad it didn't seem very stable (the last I tried at least). I'd get dropped A LOT or it would seem as if games could not be found, then I'd have to exit all the way out to the main screen and try to search to join a game again. I ended up giving up after a few weeks.

the best strategy for a good licensed game...

tie it to a really old movie, or at least a property with little time pressure.

Second best? rip off a tried and true formula and hammer it into the game.

"War for Cybertron" followed the first rule. they could have taken an entire year longer and the fact they were not rushed, shows.

And now, having established a good formula, now they are going to try to adapt it to a movie tie in. let's hope they can do it justice.

as for "war" my only big complaint was that there wasn't nearly enough of it. the story didn't go on long enough. but it was sweeet.

I'm probably one of the few, but I enjoyed the PS3/360 version of Revenge of the Fallen. It wasn't a terrible third person shooter, just nothing worth noting.

War for Cybertron, however, was simply awesome. I hope development of THIS game doesn't put WfC2 on hold, for High Moon, though.

Maybe we've all been fooled and High Noon is really working on a game that ties in to the animated Transformers: The Movie.
