Final Fantasy V announced for PSOne Classics (in Japan, of course)
33
Just when the U.S. was starting to approach parity with Japan in the arena of Final Fantasy titles on the PSOne Classics platform, we go and hear this: According to Andriasang, Final Fantasy V has been announced for PSN in Japan. The title is slated to launch this spring as a promotion for DISSIDIA 012[duodecim] FINAL FANTASY, which has a Japanese release date of March 3.
The game will be the upgraded PSOne version of the SNES RPG, which received a standalone release in Japan but came to North America as part of the Final Fantasy Anthology. Of course, it probably won't make the trip stateside this time around -- though Sony has explained the reasons why PSOne Classics releases differ from country to country, it's clear that they straight cold hate us.

I really like my GBA version more than PSX one even if the extra classes didn't do much. Here's hoping for a 3DS remake!!

I may be alone in this, but after FF4 had it done, if any final fantasy needs a remake, it's Final Fantasy 6.

Eh, US/EU fans are better off playing the GBA version of the game anyway, what with its vastly superior localization and lack of irritating slowdown.

It's hard not to when they produce poor quality titles such as last remnant and mindjack.

They dont hate us, Square made too much money in the 90s so they are trying to start fresh by losing it all in the 2000's. At least thats what it looks like.

How about a double FFV/VI remake combo for 3DS? That would be my choice

Silly, you know Square Enix would never release two games in one cart when they could release each game separately for the same price!

@bensmith91 Releasing PS1 classics on PSN is a financial no-brainer for publishers, providing any licenses are still valid, which in the case of Squaresoft games in Japan is never an issue.
The files are not touched in any way. In most cases they are ripped from end user PS1 discs and uploaded to PSN. The bandwidth fee leveraged by Sony comes right off the top of any sales made.
It's only a matter of the game actually working properly with the PS1 emulator on PSP/PS3. And because so many PS1 games were made natively for NTSC-J, they tend to work best and most often with the NTSC-J based emulator.
Porting the games to other platforms like 3DS is no doubt worth the financial investment, but requires additional resources that may not be available.

Already got it. I can live without this particular title on PSP, though I could rip it to my fatty if I were so inclined.

the load times are atrocious though and it doesn't play properly on the PS3, at least not the 60GB

So the GBA one was the good one? I never bought IV, V, or VI for the GBA, I'm going to wait out on IV and just get the complete one on the PSP. I've bought the DS remakes of them but they just don't feel right, the pacing is so slow.

@Draco Are you sure you're not confusing Anthology (5&6) with Chronicles (4 & CT)?
I've never noticed any loading issues on Anthology on my 60GB. It's not as good as the original on SNES, but it's not something I'd consider notable.
Chronicles however, is very bad, particularly Chrono Trigger.
Also, it's irrelevant because PSN PSone Classics are basically rips right from the disc, running on the same software emulator across all PSP and PS3 models (provided it's running the latest firmware). Whether you're playing off disc or the downloaded version, the difference is only going to be the difference of the CD read speed vs. your HDD read speed, which is likely negligible. Any disparities from the original PS1 port will still be there.

I know Sony "explained it", but I notice every time its a Squaresoft game they always seem to have "trouble" bringing it to America.

I'd rather have Square-Enix remake/port the game to the PSP along with Final Fantasy III and Final Fantasy VI.
I did read an article about how Sony intends to keep the PSP and NGP at retail stores together so Sony definitely wants to support the PSP for a little while longer so I don't think it'd be farfetched to ask for a PSP version update for FF III, V, and VI.

It's likely I had this confused with Anthology, Final Fantasy II I know has flashing textures in some areas every step you take, castles specifically.
I would prefer if they ported the GBA versions as I presume the load times aren't as bad, I'm used to playin on the SNES but anytime I pop in my PS1 discs I notice the load times for every battle is probably a second or two as opposed to near nil.

Why don't they just skip to the point and release a remake of this nature for FF6 for every platform in existence?

Eh, I'm fine with PS1 FFV not coming over. That translation just PALES in comparison to the GBA FFVA.
Also: Please, /please/, stop spacing out DDFF's name like that. The full-tilt awkwardness is lost if you put anything but "DISSIDIA 012[duodecim] FINAL FANTASY]" (give or take italics).

@koehler83 I've had issues saving a game with FFV in the FF: Anthology PS1 on my 40GB. It seems to be a known issue, but obviously no way to fix it with the PS1 disc.
