Download themes to vote for your favorites in PSN Gamers Choice Awards

Sony's giving you the chance to honor some of the best games on PSN -- and, more importantly, get some free XMB themes for games like Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Costume Quest, and God of War: Ghost of Sparta. The company announced the first PSN Gamers Choice Awards, which will allow PS3 and PSP users to vote on their favorite downloadable game for each platform -- among the nominees pre-selected by Sony, anyway.

From Feb. 22 through March 1, users will be able to vote for their favorite downloadable PSP or PS3 game, Mini, and PSN-exclusive by downloading a free XMB theme corresponding to that game. The winning game in each category will be discounted 30% for all PSN users and 50% for Plus members during this year's edition of the Spring Fever promotion. Find all the nominees after the break.

Spelunker HD is not one of them, but there are already free XMB themes available on the PlayStation Store that will allow interested parties to pretend it is.

PLAYSTATION®NETWORK GIVES THE VOICE TO USERS WITH THE FIRST EVER PLAYSTATION NETWORK GAMERS' CHOICE AWARDS 2011

February 15, 2011 – Sony Computer Entertainment America LLC (SCEA) today announced the PlayStationâNetwork Gamers' Choice Awards 2011, designed to recognize the best games on PlayStation Network (PSN) across four game categories. Between February 22 and March 1, PlayStation Network users can cast their vote for best game in each of the four categories by downloading a free XMB™ (XrossMediaBar) theme corresponding to that game. At the end of the voting period, one winner in each category will be selected and the award-winning games will be featured at a promotional price as part of the upcoming PlayStation®Store Spring Fever event.

The PSN Gamers' Choice Awards will showcase 20 of the highest user rated games released in 2010 as the nominees in four categories: Best PlayStation®3 (PS3™)Downloadable Game, Best PSP®(PlayStation®Portable)Downloadable Game, Best PS3/PSP MINI and Best PlayStation Network Exclusive Game. PlayStation Network users will get to determine which games earn top honors, and when the winning titles are announced, they will be celebrated by the PSN community with a 30 percent discount in the PlayStation Store and a 50 percent discount for PlayStation®Plus subscribers.

The PlayStation Network Gamers' Choice Awards 2011 nominees that will be vying for top honors are:

I didn't know that was a PSN game. Someone should tell them that's easily confuseable with the R4 on the Nintendo DS which is used for homebrew, piracy, and such. Might give them, and their apparent sequels (or spinoffs), a bad rep.

Between DeathSpank and Costume Quest for me, all great games though.

Why are they making me choose between Scott Pilgrim and Costume Quest? Why must I choose? Why can my love not be slathered over their facial regions equally? What cruel fate is this?!?

Gotta say, this is a very neat, customer (well, consumer...) friendly promotion. It's almost like something Valve would do - let's hope more of that kind of thing rubs off on Sony :)

I was going to vote for Scott Pilgrim, since it is a great game and I already own it. But 50% off isn't doing much for me. So go Costume Quest!

I'd download them all just 'cause they're all good games and they're all free :/

I hope Dead Nation wins the PSN exclusive games category, I've been waiting for it to go on sale since it was released! I know, I'm a cheapskate :p

Costume Quest by far, one of the best games of 2010!

If the winning game will be discounted, people will just vote for the one that they don't already have. A flawed system.

Because of this, i'll be voting for Costume Quest.

Also most of these (or at least the PS3 downloadables) have seen better sales recently. If you didn’t buy them at 50% off last month, why would you buy them for 30% this month?

Costume Quest was so great and I think Double Fine's survival lies in such smaller, downloadable productions. I hope everyone who identifies as a gamer resists the urge to get a discount and takes their vote a little more seriously!

I hope Ghost of Sparta gets the discount cause I've been waiting for it to go a bit down in price before jumping in and wanted to buy digital instead of UMD.

Scott Pilgrim is a great game/book/movie. Vote for it!

I would have said Castle Crashers but when i tried to sign up at their website it said my IP was banned, then i sent them a email with my IP asking. why it was banned i never been to their website before till that point and i couldn't join the website cause i'm banned for some reason and i asked why i was banned.

anyways i didn't get a reply so i'm not voting from their main website so i'm not going to vote for them. and i hope CC doesn't win ... if the website can't tell me why i am banned ( tho i never been too the website before ... then well i'm sorry i shouldn't be giving them my money if i can't be a forums member on their website !

DeathSpank was my fav but a lot of good games in that category. I'm just curious if we can get more than one free theme per category.

While I do think Castle Crashers is a bit more polished than Scott Pilgrim, the hours and hours I've poured into SP sway my vote thataway.
