Wow, this *was* a depressing way to start off my Friday. :\

-Big Boss salute to BIZARRE CREATIONS- I'll never top even my friend's leaderboard on Geometry Wars, but it doesn't matter because the game is a blast(pun intended).

Are you happy now, Bizarre?

They made the choice to leave MS for Activision, badmouthing MS the whole way. They should have known better.

It's sad to see an awesome developer like Bizarre go. You guys made some awesome games.

Like EA? EA is already playing catch-up to Activision when it comes to being dicks. As good as EA are at it, Activision still has the lead.

The anti-EA thing is so old and played out at this point. They haven't been the monolithic, game-pushing machine ala current Activision for years now.

Activision picks up promising and successful game developer. Activision forces them to churn out James Bond games. Developer dies.

Of all the companies that didn't need to be shut down, Bizzarre was one of them.

I also must ask, where was all this venom being thrown at Activision at when Microsoft or EA closes out companies?

@wcarnation It's been there. People have been getting mad when EA or MS bought developers because they knew where it would eventually lead. At least in recent years, there have been more partnerships and exclusivity deals with EA and MS, instead of outright takeovers.

Still, as a fan of Killer Instinct and Goldeneye, it pains me to see Microsoft puppeting Rare's corpse around like Bernie Lomax.

For all of you screaming Blood Murder to Activision, know this - The sad reality is, if this company truly held relevant value in todays gaming scene, some competitive publisher would have swooped in and purchased this studio.

No doubt they were talented, but sometimes that is not enough for you to survive in the ultra competitive game development scene.

@zlickrick

Not releasing Blur a week after Red Dead Redemption, Alan Wake and Split Second would've been a good start. Also, releasing Blood Stone on the same day as Goldeneye was just salt in the wound.

@zlickrick You need to read the first page of game informer, the open letter to activision to see how activision screwed up Bizarre Creations. They threw the company into the fire and gave them no support. I was praying for a day where we would see PGR 5 and it sucks it'll never happen.

I wouldn't rule out PGR5. I'm still betting that it'll be a launch title for Xbox 3. Problem is, if Bizarre aren't making it, will it truly be a relevant entry in the "PGR" franchise?

@Flakk Doesn't that fall into the same category of a new Halo game not made by Bungie? I fully support it. Bungie is past their prime and need to go onto something else.

As long as a new PGR is made in the same vein of previous games.

As an example, Project Gotham Racing Ferrari edition was NOT made by Bizarre, however it is a damn fine game. And even a compliment to the "Project Gotham Racing" name.

Call me a heartless robot, but the video didn't really pull at any of my heartstrings.

In either case, I think it is criminal how Activision just went and let go of Bizarre. I never enjoyed the PGR games, but they seemed to be a real talent and didn't deserve a closure when someone like Neversoft is on it's last legs - especially with Guitar Hero gone now.

That studio is just a bunch of copy-and-paste, while Bizarre tried to add some interesting dynamics to otherwise cookie-cutter gameplay. At least the minds at Bizarre won't be under the Activision banner any longer. Hopefully the can get picked up by other quality developers or start their own independent studio - which looks to be what devs do nowadays anyway.

Development studios never die, they just regroup. Like cockroaches these guys!

I'm no fan of Activision, but I think at least some of the blame here needs to go to Bizarre, specifically those who previously owned the company. No one put a gun to their head and told them they had to sell their company to Activision. They traded a fat payday for control of their company. It was a gamble and they lost.

I honestly don't personally, I think the most I've done was a rental here and there and that was back when CoD4. The last game I bought Activision was Tenchu 1.

Not just from Activision hate, but just that their games do not appeal to me at all...if I want to FPS, there are a ton of better choices out there.

...more than likely I'll break that streak when Diablo III comes out...if that even counts.
