I like the idea of using Kinect to sense the direction you want to look, but steering with the Kinect isn't for me. So +1 for adding Kinect support, but -1 if you don't let the Kinect support be customizable.

Yea I think that will go a long way towards making in-car views more fun and immersive. It's so awkward using the other stick to look while you steer. Hopefully they'll let you choose Kinect for one or the other.

I am not sure that head tracking is something more than a gimmick too, Forza version is expected to be better because of Kinect in comparison with what the PS Eye can do, but turing your head to look to the right side and then the need to move your eyes to the left side to see the TV is very tiresome, at least on GT5, and I think it will be the same on Forza. But just moving the perspective up and down left and right without turning the head is nice.

Too bad extra TVs, PS3s and GT5 cost money for the multidisplay feature og GT5 :-(

@robmv The article says you are leaning to change perspective, so it sounds like your head and will always be oriented in the same direction towards the screen.

I hope they optimize Forza 4 for the Fanatec GT2, since it is the only xbox wheel for sale. It would be nice to use the grake vibration feature with forza.

@robmv as indicated by the other comments, turn10 is having you lean rather than turn your head. but don't spout a comment that you have no experience with. if you've ever tried headtracking on a PC, you would know it's not tiring and feels very natural.

@onlysublime - Question for you. Whenever I play certain games (racing or not), I often find myself moving my head in an attempt to look around certain objects (or even around turns, in the case of racing games). Is head tracking in games that allow these accurate to the point that I could look around in the aforementioned fashion to see around the things that're obstructing my view, or is it more generalized than that?

Oh, for the record, I realize that moving my head obviously does absolutely nothing to help in the games that I'm playing. It's just a reflex. Haha.

Man I love the Forza series (and the GT series also) but this line - " ... coupled with "the phantom steering wheel you can grip and steer," just kills it for me. That line alone seems to take the series from hardcore race sim to arcadey blow up raft game. They should have taken that part out and made a separate Kinect game like the "I'm On A Boat" one. The head tracking and car looking around bit can stay though.

@robmv They could easily use tilt instead of turn, then you wouldn't need to take your eyes off the tv.

@PeterPanana Agreed. Kinect head tracking is neat, but i would much rather use my race wheel than the motion camera to steer.

head tracking can be a very nice feature in racing games if implemented correctly. i sometimes catch myself leaning to try to see around cars while playing GT5 and having that functionality would be great. the current head tracking implementation in GT5 is gimmicky though, requring you to turn your head to look around....but then i can't see the screen. anyway, if Forza can combine lean head tracking with allowing you to use a racing wheel or controller, i think they'd have a winner but the air wheel aspect doesn't intrigue me at all.

@kevinski that depends on how the headtracking is implemented. have you seen the Johnny Chung Lee Wii headtracking demos (youtube) or the kinect headtracking demos? it can give a 3D effect where you can peer around objects

here's a view of the guy doing it. now, it was his first demo so he wanted to just do proof of concept so he depended on huge movement but you could tweak for smaller movement.

Because they seem to care more about getting the physics right. GT5 had great attention to detail, but I never liked the *feel* of driving in that game.

GT may have a superior roster, but for me Forza is more satisfying to play.

Protip: GT5's physics are the standard for console sims. Easily better than Forza 3's. I have and play both, do you?

@WiredKnight Superior roster...? how many MX-5's do you need in a game.. when you have a hand full of cars that are just yearly iterations which are nigh on identical - but at the same time Forza's choosing the best one, a lot of the time wasn't your favourite..
I'm hoping Forza take the damage far further & much more realistically.. driving in different times of day & weathers should also be in there - and on any track

...If you say so. Yes, I own and play both. I played a lot of Forza 2 and 3, enduring the wait for GT5, and when it came out I was honestly pretty disappointed. The handling just feels off. Maybe I just need to spend more time with it but I was not impressed.

Better in what way, anyway? That's such an ambiguous statement about something so subjective. You can put all the time and effort in the world into making your simulation as accurate as possible but at the end of the day its not about the numbers, its about how the player perceives and reacts to the system.

I meant superior due to its sheer size. Forza has issues with its roster too. There's like 800 different Porches, then only a couple of certain other manufacturers.

Head Tracking with Kinect sounds really cool but I'd rather have that combined with a wheel or controller.

Controlling a car with an imaginary steering wheel just doesn't work.

This argument aside, why do people still use the moronic comment "make one better" when someone dislikes something? How is that comeback realistic and/or applicable? If you order food at a restaurant that you don't enjoy, you as the consumer aren't expected to enter the kitchen and "make it better." If you don't like a movie, it's not your job to go out and "make a better one." Are all movie, book, art, food and TV critics now required to create their own works? If we don't like a game, we're now supposed to make a better one? Staggering.

If head tracking works while using a wheel (it's forza so I suspect it will, they think things through and test test test...) then my kinect was just justified. Doesn't have to be great, but looking into the corner a little is the one thing I've wished forza 3 could do. Also hoping it will work with all views (again I assume it would because why not...) since having a wheel on a screen infront of the wheel in my hands makes my eyes swim (hood view for me please).

Since peering around your blind spot as you're turning a corner at 150+ km/h in a lambo to make sure no one's beside you WOULD BE AMAZING!!

I'll admit...that is pretty damn cool. The wife wanted Kinect badly until I told her we would have to move your country chest that doubles as a coffee table when we want to use it. Changed her mind rather quickly, but I think after I purchase this wave of games ending in May I will pick Kinect up during the summer. Dont think I will ever purchase Move though.

I love all of the off track things that Forza does. Some really kick ass, fun stuff to do. But for my money, Forza has never been better than Gran Turismo when it gets right down to the racing, and GT5 is by far the most entertaining simulator I've ever played. While interesting, this doesn't get the chub until they get their physics down pat.

In my fantasy world, I play Gran Forizmo. The brilliant physics and gameplay that makes the GT series great and all the crazy customization and fun off track stuff of Forza in one game. You really see the philosophies of each respective dev house in their games, which is neat, but sucks pretty hard as well.
