Black Ops outmaneuvers Marvel vs. Capcom 3 on UK charts

Call of Duty: Black Ops received some marketing reinforcements last week in the UK to regain the top spot, its eighth time as king of the hill. The move stole Marvel vs. Capcom 3's premiere Thor thunder, as the fighter debuted in second place. Don't feel too bad for MvC3, though -- Chart-Track notes that the title sold as many copies in its first week as its predecessor did in its lifetime on PS2 and Xbox (the company doesn't have access to the XBLA and PSN figures).

Dead Space 2 stomped the space yard at third, with Test Drive Unlimited 2 downshifting its top gear premiere into fourth. The fifth and sixth spots are occupied by chart stalwarts FIFA 11 and Just Dance 2, respectively. Check out the full UK top ten after the break.

@PatientJ I'm not the biggest fan of CoD ever since World at War, but your comment is stupid and makes no sense.

I think Black Ops is a decent online shooter, it would be better if more than 3 guns were worth using online, but that is neither here nor there. The truth is MvC3 had a disappointing roster, and I honestly think that hurt sales.

In one week's time, months after a game (Black Ops) came out, it sold more copies than another game (MvC2) sold in it's entire lifespan. This is worth noting, especially since a significant portion of the community will jump at the chance to say how amazing MvC2 was. Let's see how many people are talking about and playing re-releases of Black Ops in ten years

Oh, sorry. I have seen so many people use that term seriously on the Internet. Usually describing someone who likes something mainstream, but occasionally used when they are talking about their conspiracy theories. Using it either way makes them sound stupid.

Same here.. I think too many Brits just enjoy being on either side of the teabag.. or prancing.. I must be a bit foreign as I'm not in to either
I only buy CoDs when they're cheap, and even then only ever play the campaign and forget about it

Good showing for TDU2 and Dead Sppace still hangin' tough.

There's a good reason for that though.

Tesco's got a huge gaming sale on right now. Black Ops is only 25 pounds (compared to 54.99 RRP) which is a crazy low price for a CoD game and was sold out everywhere I checked.

Bigger news, GTA4 in at number 9. Life in the old dog yet.

It's nice to see lbp2 on that list again. Great game!

Right... so Marvel 3 sold more in 1 week than your predecessor on ps2 lifetime...

Now let's ask about its numbers on dreamcast, where I see most people playing instead of the horrible port on ps2...

In Japan it sold 160322 units from release date until 08/01 (found at NeoGaf). Even though I couldn't find the figures worldwide, I suppose Black Ops sold more than that this week.

I'm pretty sure these are just the UK sales charts, so it doesn't mean BLOPS sold more in a week then MvC2 did in its lifetime. It just means that it beat out the sales of MvC3 on the UK Charts this week. If you add in worldwide numbers then the numbers become more accurately depicted. Bad job by the OP of making that clear.

I'm just happy dead space is still selling I want a dead space 3!!!! Its my GOTY so far.... I know theres alot more coming out but so far its the best game I've played in a while.

But MvC3 has one of the best lines out there!
