Exactly what I'm hoping for (and pretty confident about after reading this preview).

The COD campaigns used to be fun, but after x number of games, the illusion is lost and you realize that you are really just pressing the forward button and the fire button (or even not doing anything) and the campaign just sort of happens.

Very encouraging news. I wrote off the game from your preview months ago... so I need to let go of old conceptions and take a new look at this game.

It's great to see a developer address issues that would otherwise cripple a game pre-release. Hope they can do even more in the remaining time.

I like that these dev's actually listen to people when complaints are voiced. Other times, a could-be great game slips away, because the dev's were either too arrogant, or too lazy to fix the problems. I was ready to write this game off as just another below average shooter, but now that I've seen the dev's will listen to feedback, and hopefully won't just give up on any patches after release, I'm giving this game another chance.

I just don't get the premise, I guess. Isn't having North Korea invade the U.S. a little like having Iowa invading Russia?

I'm trying to figure it out myself. maybe north korea is the size of china, and americans have turned in all of their guns in this fictional world.

I've felt this way ever since the game was first announced. Had they picked China, it would've been more plausible. Regardless, it looks like a fun game to me and I'm hoping the multiplayer is worthy of holding its own...

hate to play one of those "know it all" types, but North Korea has the fourth largest standing army, right behind the China, India and the US. So it is very plausible. don't confuse land mass with the size of an invasion force. besides, the more land you have to protect, the easier it is to invade.

@A Sandwich in one of their(Kaos) preview vids they said north korea and south korea united as one. that korea was still named north korea i guess, but they invaded the us after taking japan, so now its north korea and japan as one, so its bigger . they also took alot of the tech from japan to use against us.

I might check it out, but, North Korea occupying america? man they're gonna have to have a good strategy for that to be believable. I mean, we all have access to guns in america. all of us, even if they got past our navy, and airforce, there would be urban warfare the likes of which have never been seen.

is that what this game is about ? shooting at people with your neighbors

The plot, at least as it was explained earlier, is that North and South Korea unify and sneak an invasion force in after detonating a PMP bomb over America. That explains why our defenses weren't up at the moment, but still doesn't account for all of the armed citizens that they'd encounter in the heartland.
It still doesn't seem like a fair fight to me, but I'm willing to suspend my disbelief if the rest of the game is solid.

@TheBennettBrigade I understand the thought that invading the US would be a bad idea due to the number of armed citizens present, but there are other considerations: for example, tanks and jets.

Also: most US citizens don't have access to a lot of the hardware that the Koreans would in this scenario, such as machine guns and bulletproof vests. Even most armed Americans won't have much more than pistols or hunting weapons. Perhaps some will have AKs or the like, but the Iraq war has shown how ineffective straight-up combat tactics are against a force with vastly superior combat capabilities. For instance, say you retake NYC from the baddies. They can just mortar it all day long, or drop bombs on it for a few weeks, or gas it - the theoretical Korean invasion force does not seem to be following the Geneva convention here.

Also: the number of US citizens willing to risk their lives (and the lives of their family, friends and neighbors) to resist a massive invasion force is not likely to be high.

There are definite problems with the idea of America being invaded, but an armed citizenry is really not one of them. (I could be wrong, of course - I'm no expert here)

My interest in the game waned somewhat based on Andrew's last preview, but the headset bonus for a pre-order coupled with these improvements might make this a regret-free purchase. Don't let us down, Kaos!

We all assume we would fight in the streets, unfortunately war can be much more psychologically challenging than how we imagine, an invader would take advantage of that trauma along with brutal ruthlessness to try and quell uprisings. Now granted an uprising may be inevitable due to the size of America vs N Korea, but (I don't know any of the story besides what's here btw) if the story takes place in a timeline where N Korea strategically struck down most leaders and focused on the initial assault and first few days/weeks it would make sense to me

I admit it, I condemned you for the previous preview you did, because I didn't like the fact that you wrote off the single player so far in advance of release. Hey if that helped hone the game, I humbly admit I was wrong about that. I'm pre-ordering this!

Silly premise for a game can be compelling if done right.

Joystiq's initial impression of Homefront is the reason I took it off my radar. Now it seems its back on. Hope I am not all FPS'ed out after going rounds with BulletStom and Killzone 3 by the time it ships. I guess if it has not happened in the past 14 years or so I should be good. So bring on Homefront and Crysis 2! I will attempt to squeeze them in between the games mentioned along with Halo Reach and Bad Company 2. Then we got Gears 3 and Battlefield 3 to look forward too.

This is certainly a pleasant surprise. Not often do you see games improved after their previews - it's as if the developers pay no heed to the complaints. I'm glad to see that Kaos is taking this seriously. Almost justifies all of the cross-media marketing THQ is planning for the franchise. Still not sold on the brand, but the game should be solid enough.
