Fable 3 set to overthrow the PC kingdom May 17 [update: now with screens!]
42
PC gamers, it's time for you to renew your passport and update your vaccinations: You're going to be taking a trip to Albion in a few short months. Microsoft has announced that the third installment in its morally dichotomous RPG series, Fable 3, is due out on the PC in North America May 17, and in Europe, Australia and New Zealand May 19.
The Windows version of the game will include full 3D support for folks using the appropriate NVIDIA cards, and will also add a "Hardcore" mode, giving the game an unprecedented level of difficulty. We wonder if that difficulty will be reflected in the game's major ethical decisions as well -- for instance: Do you want to sacrifice your children, your wife, or your dog ... in the real world? Mwahahaha!
Update: Check out a ton of screens in the gallery below.

Agreed. After the reception it got, and the wait following it there's little way that I could care less about this game.

Oh, Microsoft and their inconsistent PC support...

At last, I've been waiting for this for months. So long in fact, that I've stopped caring. Congrats, Microsoft.

Only way I consider it is if this releases on Steam.

Good luck. You know they'll make it require their godforsaken GamesForWindows Live platform that Microsoft still hasn't realized that no one likes or wants because it's horrid and a million times inferior to Steam.

Yeah let me buy this for my PC so I can have two unusable game saves and waste another 13 hours (Spoiler: My Xbox Fable adventure started with glitches and slow downs and ended with me stuck in a rock. Talk about a surprise ending!)

Where's mah Fable 2?

I can only speak to the 360 version, but it is much less of a game than Fable 2. In nearly all aspects it has regressed. Yes, its charm remains and just barely makes it worth playing.

I liked Fable III more than Fable II.

so they are going to launch Fable 3 in the same month as Witcher 2?
one one hand you have a console RPG ported months late to PC by devs and publishers who clearly disdain PC gaming in general and are not interested in our money. on the other hand, you have a PC RPG built from the ground up to be a PC RPG by devs who at least give the appearence of thinking PC gamers aren't all that bad.
that should work out well for Fable 3.

Money, he says. Maybe it's 'cos the PC crowd seems composed exclusively of irritable people with narrow mindsets and impossibly specific standards, combined with a disturbingly loose definition of "copyright"?

that's a bit of a stretch. PC gamers may have standards, we expect games to be finished on release and run relatively bug free. that's not really that extreme, console gamers tend to get those things as a matter of course, and take it for granted. Beyond that, we expect to get our moneys worth, i don't see how that is an impossible standard.
as far as the narrow minded bits, that's just insulting generalizations. and while i won't deny that PC gaming has a problem with pirates, i believe that that problem is vastly over stated by publishers to justify poor sales for poor products.
It absolutely is a problem of money in the end though. the PC market is significantly smaller than the console market. because of that we absolutely are neglected by lots of publishers who give us slipshod ports when we get anything at all. given that kind of treatment by the industry, is it any surprise that PC gamers get jaded in regards to console games and console developers? or that we would rally around the few remaining devs who appear go still care about PC gamers?

Well--er...
To be honest I wasn't expecting a reasoned response like that. You're an exception to the typical MASTER RACE crowd. Being a bit of a "play everything" type, I can see some of your points. While I believe piracy plays a big part in the smaller PC market, a lot of it just, well, what's going to sell more to the average, play-an-hour-or-two-a-day-if-that gamer? And in this market, can you afford to spend millions of dollars on anything that won't return a profit? Most of these ports are slipshod, I'd hazard, because they're attempting to make a last bit of money off of it; thanks to presumably meager sales expectations, they likely don't expend much effort/money in order to shine up the port.

no one expects reasoned arguments on The Internet! You make some good points as well, really it does just come down to the console market being so much bigger with less risk. Ah well, I've been a PC gamer since Doom, it may be a niche market, but its MY niche market, damnit! There are still enough developers making good PC games that I can't get too up in arms over months-late console ports.

I find the "Release PC versions of games months after the inital release with DRM and typically a bunch of bugs" a pretty poor strategy.
But since its so frequent maybe the strategy is actually profitable?

sigh... I kinda... put a bullet in my pre-order long ago. And well after playing it--and being unable to beat it because of bugs on the 360--I have just about given up.

So any word on system requirements? Will it require Vista/Windows 7, or will it be able to run on XP for the rest of us? If it's anything like the Halo 2 and Gears of War ports, I'm sure it'll require Vista/7, but it wouldn't hurt to ask.

I wish they would bring Fable 2 to PC, its apparently the best Fable. Fable 3 is meant to be crap. I played the first one on PC and it was a charming if flawed game.
