Unreal: Cliff Bleszinski really likes musicals

Listen, just because Cliff Bleszinski makes games where you chainsaw dudes in half doesn't mean the man can't feel. Like, take this interview with Adult Swim about his favorite shows for instance, in which he admits that he kinda, sorta loves musicals:

I can enjoy a twisted, strange movie like [Funny Games] but also be like, "Sweet! Chicago's on Blu-ray now! Let's go see The Lion King on Broadway! Oh my God, I love Wicked!" ... There's this weird dichotomy going on with my tastes. I think it's important to enjoy all spectrums of entertainment that way.

Well, this certainly explains why so many Epic games feature highly choreographed knife fights between rival gangs. Also, because we were all thinking it: This.

I like to think Cliff looks at his games as satire. Which is even more obvious in Bulletstorm. Not sure if that's what he was going for in Gears of War though.

Fun fact: Cliff wanted to be an opera singer at one point.

That Youtube double is one of the best and worst things i've seen today.

Wicked is an awesome musical. I've seen it twice.

I concur it's awesome. Took my girlfriend up to NYC to see it this past December and then proposed in Rockefeller Plaza right after. Got some got memories with Wicked. :)

@wcarnation I don't know about that. There are many rumors abound about Cliffy making his way through most of the female gaming press. Then again, that could be just rumors. Either way, I don't care if the man enjoys a nice dick every morning or boobs to lay on every night, he helped make Unreal and Gears, so he is awesome.

Translation: look everyone i like musicals therefor i like grown up things.

The movie with Depp was excellent.

Well, I think it's all well and good that Cliff appreciates a wide range of entertainment. It's an important quality for a game developer to have.

So why is it that all he's made in the last decade are gritty shooters featuring no-necked characters in oversized combat armor whose only dialogue consists of various grunts?

Can we have something new, Mr. Bleszinski?

I'd even be open to another Jazz Jackrabbit game...

Avenue Q should be what Gears of War/Bulletstorm fan would like. There's cursing, alcohol, and toilet humor.

I think it'd be awesome if CliffyB made a musical video game. He could invent a new genre of video game. Epic certainly has the money to experiment with such things.

Musicals are a great fit for games too. You just put a headset on, and that's your mic. You sing during certain parts, the rest of the parts.. you just play a game like normal. Fighting, adventuring, whatever..

You could do both too. Singing as you fight.

Oh and it'd be really interesting if there was competitive singing going on, like during that "Confrontation" duet song from Les Miserables.
