Windows Phone 7 getting six weeks of 'Must Have Games' this Spring, Fable Coin Golf in March

Microsoft is treating its phone platform like a console, planning a release "event" for its Xbox Live games on Windows Phone 7. This spring, Microsoft's mobile platform will get six weeks of "Must Have Games," including Plants vs. Zombies, Hydro Thunder, Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1, Doodle Jump and more. The press release reiterates that the games, like all Xbox Live games on the platform, include Achievements and leaderboards.

The platform will also be the exclusive home to Fable Coin Golf. Available in March, Coin Golf will let you transfer gold earned in the game to either the PC or console versions of Fable 3. Connecting the console and mobile game will also unlock "three exclusive weapons that can be used in the Traitor's Keep game add-on."

The announcement coincides with the expansion of the Windows Phone platform to another carrier in the US. Sprint's HTC Arrive is the first WP7 device for the carrier, and will be available in March.

Update: WinRumors indicates that Angry Birds will be among the WP7 releases during the "Must Have Games" promotion.

Coin Golf seems like a cash grab, it only unlocks weapons with the console DLC? I guess I can still use it to earn money, which is PLENTIFUL in Fable 3.

I'll probably get PVZ, Sonic and Full House Poker, when they're out.

Yeah, money was not something that I felt was hard to come by in the game.

Cash grab or not, Coin Golf was a great mini game, and it was sorely missing from the sequels. I'd buy it just to play it if I had WP7, wouldn't even bother with the gold transfer.

Yeah, the money system basically broke the game. I mean moreso than all of the bugs it shipped with (yeah, I'm still bitter)

Maybe they can include asynchronous multiplayer next

Hell yes. Been loving my WP7 and its great to see new games coming to it.

WP7 is getting an awesome lineup of games. Definitely much better than Android.

I have an upgrade coming up, and I'm thinking about switching to iPhone or even Windows Phone 7 because of the lack of decent games. Only two games I've liked are Angry Birds and Words With Friends.

@ValentinFerrel Honestly the achievements and check XBL stuff is what I like the most about my WP7. I honestly think I paid too much for how little I use it, since I only play the occasional game, use Twit, and use the built in Zune as an MP3 player for my car. Maybe if Joystiq would get their app out on it.....

Even more fighting talk is that Sony themselves admitted that the Playstation Suite "Might" make it's way to other mobile OS's, including both iOS and WP7. Kaboom!!!

This is way too soon, joystiq still hasn't had the chance to finish reviewing the launch titles.

You do think that mobile gaming is relevant right?

Love my WP7. It's easily the most "real" feeling of all the mobile gaming devices to me. There's something about unlocking real achievements in a game, then jumping out to check my GS and see what my friends are doing on live, from a phone, that I can't get enough of.

I love my WP7, and ilomilo was great, but I need some more games that actually work. Unlike Crackdown and Puzzle Quest.

@Rhamsey Crackdown's trial would never work for me. What is wrong with Puzzle Quest, though? I was considering getting it.

On an unrelated note, Harvest is awesome :)

Crackdown won't load some of my basses, and freezes all the time, while puzzle quest gets really laggy endgame. I tried the demo for harvest and enjoyed it, but shit is 7 bucks way to much money for a phone game, well for me anyway.

All I know is that WP7 is a contender. It's not a bad hardware.

Whoot, all we need now is the damn Windows Phone 7!
