One of the longest running unofficial services for Xbox 360 users has been shut down. MyGamerCard.net, which has been around as long as the Xbox 360 itself, has closed its virtual doors. Founder Jason Young -- known to most of us by his Gamertag, Morgon -- has posted a lengthy goodbye on the site, explaining his reasons for the shutdown, which includes the service's leaderboards.
According to Young, the "love for community has been lost by Microsoft," and its many community-based projects, including the Xbox Community Developer Program, have "stagnated." He adds that some sites have been using non-kosher methods to scrape data from Xbox.com, a practice Microsoft has allegedly done little to quell, but one Young says shows a "lack of respect" nonetheless. Faced with this sort of unscrupulous competition, as well as a poor advertising environment, he was forced to shut down the service after paying half of MGC's costs himself for over a year.
Both Joystiq and its community have enjoyed the ever expanding service since its inception. Initially offering GamerCards that could be posted onto websites and forums, MGC expanded to offer leaderboards, Achievement completion percentages and even daily gaming news. In fact, looking back at my tenure at Joystiq's former Xbox site, Xbox 360 Fanboy, I can testify that many of our community projects wouldn't have been possible without it.
Those wishing to keep up with Young can do so on Xbox Live or Twitter.

Wow, that is pretty depressing. I have been using them for years. A shame they are gone now.
Not too sure what he means by "Love for the community has been lost" when they have done nothing bu help the indie guys get better coverage, and open ore community oriented thing.
Probably something deeper down, but nevertheless, I've not seen it.

@Robborboy go read the blog on the site....he pretty much says that the way they redid some stats and xbox.com made it more difficult to do anything useful with the information he was getting....and he wanted to do more but they just sorta cut contact with him when he asked questions about certain things, whereas before he was getting a lot of access to some things

Same here bro. I thought Microsoft was trying to help out the little guys. I have used this service for years for my forum account on several websites. It's a shame. I can kinda see where he comes from though cause Microsofts pricing on the marketplace has become quite skewed. Especially when they forced Valve to change for the add-ons that PC was getting for free.

You didn't notice in the past few months that Stallion83 was pushed back a few pages because of all the gamerscore hackers?
Morgon stopped managing the list and thus we see MS stopped caring too as a gamerscore reset would have taken them away.
Good night sweet prince.
Listened to all the sad vidya music I could find while I read the whole MGC site.

I can't help but wonder what may have been if only he could have incorporated porn into his site to guarantee its success.
Of course, injecting porn into stuff for success can be said of so many things in our lives. Good night sweet prince.

What a shame. It was a real useful site.
It's something that should be on the main xbox website.

That's a real shame as he offered a good service to gamers. I have to admit, I had not been using the site in a long time, but enjoyed it when I was using it. As far as his posted goodbye - I think he taught us all a bit about how things are being handled and I appreciate him sharing his thoughts as he did.

I am also disappointed for my iGoogle page. The app for the site on there was one of the things I liked best on it...

What a bummer, it was a pretty cool service.
It seems like many of the external sites that would pull information from Microsoft have shutdown one-by-one over the years, and although I always thought these sites added great value for 360 users, it's a shame they're disappearing.
I've always believed that Microsoft should have learned from these sites and incorporated featres into their own website for gamers on their system. I think gaming, stats, and an internet presence goes hand-in-hand. People like to look at these stats just as much they like to look at your gamercard and achivements. Seems like a no-brainer that Microsoft should do more to exploit and grow that area. Every gamer should have a facebook-like presence on Xbox.com. That each developer has their own site for stats seems odd to me-- one for Halo, one for COD, etc etc. Imagine if all your stats were in one location that you friends could easily access via xbox.com

I noticed this on a personal forum a group of pals have today and it had the years...like a gravestone. Very sad I loved seeing what games people we playing and the personalization of the cards. Sorely missed Young did us all a great service.
As he said on the site his "achievement unlocked" was in spades.

@(Unverified) It also showed people's last played games which is what I was interested in. I enjoyed seeing what people were playing.

Because like he said in his post, he didn't use a "non-kosher method to scrape data" to get the details of what games you had played.
