Just Add Water working on four Oddworld games for this year
23
After news surfaced last summer that Gravity Crash developer Just Add Water is working on multiple Oddworld projects, we wondered just what the UK-based dev had up its sleeves. And while we already heard about remakes of Stranger's Wrath headed for PlayStation 3 and Abe's Oddyseey for unknown platforms, a post on the company's official site meant to solicit new talent also revealed that said talent "would be working on various Oddworld Inhabitants-based projects, with four to be released THIS year [their emphasis]."
Given that we know of two other Oddworld titles getting remakes -- notably the first and the last of the series -- it stands to reason that Abe's Exoddus and Munch's Oddysee are also getting the HD treatment. Just Add Water is staying mum for now, though, instead choosing to tantalize us with vague blog posts. That said, don't go getting your hopes up for that long awaited new entry in the Oddworld series -- last we heard, it was "on hold."
And hey, if you're a programmer or artist in the UK with a penchant for working with strange creatures, Just Add Water's hiring!

Does Munch's Oddysee really need a HD remake? It's the black sheep of the OddWorld games.

Was it that bad? Always wanted to play it but I never had an Xbox.

@Pure Black World Tendency It wasn't bad, just happened to be the weakest of the 4 Oddworld games. However, Oddworld was always trying something qwerky, so it was still a fun experience for me.

But then again; Odyssey and Exoddus were hard acts to follow. :)
I'd still be interested in trying out an HD version.

no, it really wasn't bad at all. i definitely wouldn't call it a "black sheep" as that term is generally reserved for things that are bad, and munch's oddysee is not a bad game at all. it was one of the first games i owned for the xbox.
i think people mostly didn't like it because it was an xbox exclusive, and people like to hate on xbox exclusives for a couple reasons, one of which being that not many people actually owned an xbox. :D

It wasn't bad, but it certainly wasn't as good as the first ones, I had an Xbox and didn't particularly like it either. The first 2 were incredible in so many ways that I still play them to this date on any system they are available on. Munch....played it once, traded it in after completion, the only other game that dissappointed me that much was Dino Crisis 3, which was a disaster. As far as I'm concerned, only the first 2 exist.

Its nice to see a budding company, with a bright future, starting to grow. After the market crash this is just what we need.

You wouldn't say "bright future" after seeing Stranger's Wrath come out in a terrible port, then the CEO of the company pops up and makes an assut of himself when he demonstrates a complete and utter lack of knowledge on anything pc related, then insults pc users.
Seriously, when was the last time a CEO of a company called you spoiled for wanting a game that actually, you know. RAN playable on a system it was just released for?
It's been patched up since then, but when it launched, it was terrible. It was running as low as 10 FPS on some systems, and the CEO was like "What problem? I don't see any problem."

if you're referring to the oddbox release on the pc, well, i don't think just add water was behind that. i could be wrong, but i'm pretty sure that the ps3 version of stranger's wrath is completely re-skinned and remade to be more suitable for the console it's on, and that, as well as the abe's oddyssey remake are being made by just add water.
still, i wouldn't exactly call it a budding new company. it's great that they're remaking all these excellent games so that more people can play them, but really that's about all that they're doing. i don't see how it shows much creativity. i do wish them the best in the future.

Just Add Water was the company handling the port. They screwed it up, didn't test thoroughly enuf (the company they had tested had fewer systems than they said) and it was their CEO who got up and made an ass out of himself by defending their terrible port saying "I wasn't aware pc gamers were so spoiled."
When people told him the framerate in the game was ridiculous, he replied (paraphrasing) "I wasn't aware pc gamers were used to high framerates and extremely high resolutions. I don't see anything wrong with 25 FPS. It's what I'm used to, I primarily play console games."
Some setups were getting FPS lower than 10. It was unplayable.

Strangers Wrath has been working fine for a long time now, I didn't buy the others so can't comment on their state.

Munch's Oddysee was the first my first Xbox game. I remember being blown away by the visuals. That opening cutscene still has some of the nicest water I've seen.

They handled the port for Oddbox, and it was their problem releasing Stranger's Wrath in the terrible condition it was.
It took some time, but the CEO finally admitted they screwed up. So if he admits they screwed up, I guess it does mean it was their fault, right?

As I said before, when the crappy port came to light, and people were wondering what the hell happened, the CEO started posting, defending the ports, then finally admitting they screwed up.
Just Add Water handled the pc ports. There are multiple companies involved here, including the original creators, the company who took over, and the company who handled the ports.
