Castlevania: Lords of Shadow wins best original game score from Film Music Critics

The Oscars still haven't deigned to give awards out to video game creators, but the International Film Music Critics' Association is much more open-minded. In among their awards given out this past week was a "Best Original Score for a Video Game or Interactive Media." And the winner goes to...

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. Congratulations to composer Óscar Araujo, who got to take home the "Iffy." No, we just made that name up -- we don't really know what it's called. Probably just the IFMCA Award. His score beat out the music in Dark Void (by Bear McCreary!), James Bond 007: Blood Stone, Lego Universe, and the Legend of the Guardians games to win it all.

And apologies to composers Bill Elm and Woody Jackson. Why? Because their Red Dead Redemption score got robbed! Robbed, we say!

Yeah this is bs. The red dead soundtrack is freakin outstanding. Then again, I haven't heard or played lords of shadow.

LOS had a score on par with some of the greater fantasy epics of all time.

So Red dead should've won even though you never heard the other contestants? Maybe you should go on youtube and listen to the music.

Where the hell can we find a full soundtrack!? The one that came with the SE version isn't complete, its only has snippets and recuts of some of the works... it doesn't even have the main theme or any of the love themes... LAME!!!

Totally hoping this won. The Ice Titan song always makes me get goosebumps.

I think you miss read his comment, "totally hoping this won" I think this refers to him wanting it to win n it actually doing so.
"totally hope this wins" would mean he was wrong.

Other note, to beat RDR that score had to be gooood

Wow, 6 posts in and one guy says it shouldn't have won even though he's never heard it, and another guy says "hoping this won" after the article title says it won.

In my defense I've been pushing four hours of sleep a night for about a week.

I haven't heard about this award before, but I just wanted to say that the music in Dark Void as absolutely immense. Hopefully SOCOM 4 can match it.

So...where can one get the soundtrack to the game? Castlevania?

A lot of my ps3-bearing friends said. This game was good, but shoulld i buy a ps3 for it?

I'm currently playing Lords of Shadow and i have to say it's in my top three for 2010. Mass Effect 2 and Red Dead Redemption are also in my top three.

While I love the music in Red Dead, I have to say that it mostly felt like ambiance music. That would come in here and there for a little bit of added effect. This was indeed powerful and made you feel like a badass at some points.

Castlevania's soundtrack has such a sweeping array of emotions and deep moods, not to mention an entire orchestra powering the score. The songs are technically amazing....it's just a good soundtrack on an epic scale.

If you haven't already, play this game, because it's worth your time. And the score is amazing.

The award was well deserved.

Guess the game score was the only thing that was original in this game.

You probably didn't catch the epilogue then.

They need to release the album separately . Not just a game "exclusive". I hate that. Gaming soundtracks are damn near superior to film scores, especially over the past 10 years. My soundtrack collection of game CD's is quickly outgrowing anything I originally had from film.

I'm assuming that IFMCA didn't bother listening to the Nier/Nier Replicant OST?

I'm sorry no. RDR's soundtrack not winning isn't the crime here, Nier's soundtrack not winning is. RDR's soundtrack is good, and on par with Lords of Shadow. Nier's was downright stupifying in how good it was, especially since the game had so many issues holding it back. (It has a great story and music, but the rest is a chore)

IMHO nier's soundtrack really wasn't that great. However it achieves sounding different, LOS was great but sounded same old same old.

I think music tracks in video games need to be more dynamic because video games are a dynamic medium.

compared to previous castlevania music, LOS disappoint a lot..
