Cecil, Tellah, Rosa and the gang will take up arms against the powers of nefarious crystal-hogs once again in Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection, which Square Enix has now adorned with an April 22 European release date -- a few days after North America's April 19 due date.
The PSP-exclusive collection not only includes the original, SNES RPG (bolstered with some fancy-schmancy new graphics and CGI cutscenes), but also the After Years expansions, which players will be able jump right into if they don't feel like replaying the original, casualty-heavy saga.
The Complete Colelction will be available in both a standard and special edition, which includes a handful of lovely little Final Fantasy IV art cards, a PSP screen cloth and a DLC voucher for Dissidia 012 [duodecim] Final Fantasy. That cloth would actually be kind of handy -- you'll need something to mop up your tears following that one scene. You know. With those kids. And that hallway.

Any information about whether or not it will be UMD-only?

That one scene? The one where Edward gets called a spoony bard?

Hallway, huh? You mean it's not that "heartbreaking" scene where harp man is battling the loss of his lover AND a merman creature? What a dork.

$30 is cheaper than After Years was on Wii. Throwing in FFIV remastered with another extra interlude episode is definitely a pretty good deal.
But for the love of god, make this the last FFIV re-release.

so is this going to be better than the DS re-release of FF IV? or is it just the SNES version with added cutscenes?

It's being remade in the art style of Final Fantasy 1 & 2: Anniversary Editions on PSP. AKA - Big bubbly sprites.

At first I thought they were talking about FFXIV and I was like "oh I'm so sorry."

FFIV is my favorite Final Fantasy, but I wish they would stop re-releasing it and give FFVI a little more love.
I'm still totally importing this.

Who did FFVI (FFIII) rape and murder to not ever get a post PS1 re-release when IV is now on basically everything but a toaster oven?! (and still always far too expensive for its age) GRRR!

Actually, FFVI was released on the GBA with extra espers and a new dungeon or two, with a cleaned up script to boot.

@baby sea tuna It was released on GBA. That was the most recent rerelease.
The reason why it hasn't been otherwise touched, I believe, is because they're afraid of screwing it up. There were a lot of things that FFVI did differently than the rest of the series. The sprites were far more detailed and varied. Recreating them would be a lot more work than previous titles. The score is huge and demanding. Even Kefka's laugh is iconic.
It would be very hard to do right and too easy to do wrong. It is, in many ways and in my own opinion, the most perfect entry in the series. I think it's best left alone.

Huh...I must have missed that. I guess it came out after I'd already transitioned to DS. Either way, it's pretty expensive now on eBay, so maybe I'll just leave it in my memory as my favorite FF game and move on with my life.

So, how does this version stack up to the DS version? Does it have the bonus dungeons and the augments? I do own the DS copy and I'm wondering if I lose anything if I by the new collection and sell the one I have...

As powersurge said, it's a 2D game, which you could have found out had you spent one minute researching this game's info.

@thisredengine Yes I noticed that much. If you had spent one minute reading my post. and noticed my question about augments and bonus dungeons you probably would have realized I was looking for some less obvious details.
