END OF DAYS! END OF DAYS! It's only a matter of time before Apple releases a console!!

Technically the iPad2 IS Apple's game console... Or maybe that's what the AppleTV will become if they release a game controller for it? O_o

Apple doesn't have the compromise to release a console. It would have little to no features already featured on PS3 & 360 & will come out with one every year & price it at 700 bucks.

@shinjix2 If they released a wireless controller that syncs with it, that would be pretty rad. The only thing holding apple back is sketchy touchscreen controls.

Gimme precision and I will give you my gaming dollars.

ipad-2 & Apple TV. As much as they flirt with the concept of gaming on a TV I won't be surprised to hear an announcement in the next year or two. They are practically there and I'm sure its been seriously discussed within that company.

people would buy it simply because it's Apple. Everyone jumps at the chance to buy their crap because it's "trendy"

I see their stuff and I see bugs and breakdowns wonder why people keep coming back. I can get a i-pad/MP3 player for half as much as an apple product and It will perform as well if not better.

An Apple Console would be a serious contender and a threat to Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo.

Not really. The people who buy Apple products are average everyday joes who, like you said, buy their products to be trendy. Gamers on the other hand aren't stupid, they know when they are being tricked into spending an outrageous amount of money for a piece of crap.

I hope your right....

Gamers like you and I know better. But I worry that there has been a flood of a new generation of gamers brought out by the popularity Wii and motion control. Those would be the people that would give Apple a chance.

Yeah. But with the Wii, it wasn't setting out to be a big thing. It had a gimmick, it caught on & now everybody loves it. The Wii is actually pretty fun. Apple would just tout about saying it will revolutionize gaming & talk a whole bunch of non-sense & then release a featureless & gameless console that they'll update every few months

I would love nothing more than to agree with you but I have to refer to the Xbox 360 during the first 4 years of manufacturing as the evidence to dismiss your hypothesis. It was by far the most poorly crafted piece of hardware ever made but yet, people flocked to it. I dare say that Apple would have to do considerably worse than the Ipad 2 to really screw things up.

By the way, I realize the 360 is a fun console and has some great features but from a hardware quality point of view, it was horrendous.

I do agree with you though that the iPad is not revolutionary, it just packaged everything out there into a trendy looking device and has a brand name that a lot of people associate with prestige. And that my friend, is something that is very important in our North American society. ;)

The thing with the Xbox 360, it was the first of its kind. the first HD console. Of course the hardware was prone to failure. it was really early for them to start with. People needed to realize that since it was the first one & boldest one to release first, there were bound to be disappointed by something. Which was the RROD. If MS waited a year, they could have fixed the problem but could have also lost the msjor 3rd party support they have today. The jump in sales for them really helped them in the long run as they have rectified the problem & still gave people a 3 year warranty. People were so quick to judge the 360 & say it's a piece of crap when it's the first HD console on the market. Like many people say, you can't judge something because it's first of it's kind. I will get better. However with Apple, this has been the story with them for years. High prices, short lived "innovation", no feedback support. They are really masterminds in advertising though. They really know how to make people buy an iPhone year after year.

Joystiq shows Engadget the type of coverage a product like this should have, the coverage it deserves.

Sadly, Engadget will probably be posting several iPad 2 articles a day for the next few weeks, best to avoid that place.

I really don't see the point in this. You're still going to have to use your iPad to play games. & watching movies? So I'm going to transfer movies from my PC to my iPad & then from my iPad to my TV? Really? Another useless feature on an annual product by Apple that fans don't ask for yet will still buy at the outrageous price because they're idiots :/

i don't get it either. you're supposed to use the iPad for input but look at the TV? how does that work? you'd have to guess where you're touching or just look at the iPad which renders the TV function useless. unless you want your whole family to hear and see you play Angry Birds while not letting them use the TV.

I bought an iPad, and i'll probably buy an iPad 2. I enjoy the products and am fortunately in a situation where I can afford them. So that makes me an idiot?

As far as the HDMI out put, I can purchase/rent the movies on my iPad and then watch them on any of the TV's in my house (not just the ones with a mac or Apple TV, like the kids room for example).

It might not be for you, but it does appeal to other people. It's fine that you don't like apple, but being a douche bag isn't the way to go.

Apple isn't the only hardware manufacturer to update their hardware annually. If you don't agree with or can't afford their pricing then so be it, but don't judge me because i can.

And that's not me speaking as a blind fan. I was an iPhone user and i switch over to Android because i think it offers more than the current iPhone. But that's not to say that i wont switch back to iPhone depending on what they do with iPhone 5 and iOS5.

I was speaking out to the people who buy it simply because they tout & say it's the best thing on earth just because of the "i" in front of it. & can you really tell me a company similar to Apple, updates their products annually & not implement feedback from the community? I don't like Apple because they never get it right. Apple seems to be more concerned with looks than actual functionality & features. You know how many phones had 720p recording before iPhone 3gs? I'm not saying everybody should hate Apple, but buying the same product just with a different look & some minor upgrades every year is pretty dumb if you ask me. Nobody buys the newest Sony TV every year. Nobody buys the newest laptop every year. Apple Under delivers with all their products & the consumer eats it all up. The fact that the iPhone 4 has less features than your average HTC Android device & cost more is just sad. & People wonder why the economy is the way it is. Don't buy something for the wrong reasons.

if its a digital cable, such as HDMI, there is no difference in quality no matter what brand or price you buy. its all ones and zeros. either the signal is connected or it isn't. there are no degrees of quality. now analog cables like VGA or speaker wire is a different story.

so you're paying less than $5 per hdmi cable and less than $2 per usb cable? even if it's 50% cheaper on ebay, I'll pay the extra buck to not deal with shady ebay sellers and the horrible, overpriced shipping. monoprice FTW!

Meh, stupid little cable. This would be useful for situations where you happened to have your iPad on you and you wanted to plug into someone's TV to show them something.

No one is going to carry that cable around with them everywhere they go just for those situations though.

Well, I have an Evo 4G, and that has an HDMI out. It's pretty much useless since a) you never carry around a whole HDMI cable just to plug in to random TVs whenever, so it's only useful at home and b) you would only really want to use it for showing off photos or videos, which you can just use the phone/ipad screen for anyway. You would only really need to hook it up to a TV if you wanted to show something to 5+ people at a time for presentations.

Neat addition, but 90% useless.
