During Nintendo's GDC keynote today, president Satoru Iwata teased the previoulsy confirmed Super Mario Bros. game for 3DS with a logo. Does that tail look familiar?
The game is being developed by the Super Mario Galaxy team, and while Iwata wouldn't offer any more details, he did promise more would be revealed at E3.

This is too awesome for words.
I wasn't that happy with New Mario DS. Didn't have the same quality of music and charm of earlier Mario titles but if this one is somehow tied in with Mario 3 then yeah. I'm there.

Well, now I'm convinced Nintendo is going to own E3 again.

I do wonder why everyone bounces around the room in excitement when Nintendo announces a new Mario. It's a new Mario, people, there's absolutely nothing to be excited about when hearing about the announcement. The simple fact that there's a new Mario game coming out somewhere is extremely obvious and not a surprise. If you want to get excited about the FEATURES of a new Mario game, then go right ahead. But this? This didn't announce new features at all, just a simple "we're making Mario", and people are getting heart attacks? Jesus, Nintendo fans are by far the easiest to please. Walk into a room, say "Metroid", walk out, and fans start screaming at the top of their lungs and throwing their wallets into the stage.

@PointlessPuppies You sir, are an idiot. First off think of your favorite game, chances are that game wouldn't "be" without Mario. Second off, the reason Nintendo fans are so easily pleased is because they still realize how to enjoy the simplicity in video games that is now covered up by piles and piles of 'good' graphics and bad game design. Third off, this *is* a big deal as it's the team that did Super Mario Galaxy (just FYI, guaranteed SMG2 got more praise then your favorite game) AND it's gonna be in 3D, not to mention the tail that hints as to having everyones favorite Tanooki suit from Super Mario Bros. 3. We are getting heart attacks, and were proud of it. Call of Duty gives people the same heart attacks and what is it? I recreation of reality (and a lousy one at that) with almost no creativity put behind it. Also, nothing you say will ever change US Nintendo fans, so get used to it. Chump.

@trigga1 You, sir, are a bigger idiot.
I'm not talking about anything else but getting excited by something that isn't even a teaser. It's literally "new Mario" with a logo and that's it.
The only people who do this for any other non-Nintendo series are fanboys, but that's my point. Nintendo fans, for some inexplicable reason, act like die-hard fanboys, even if they just like Nintendo games and not love them.
The could be freaking awesome, or it could be "meh". Nobody knows, but people don't even care at this point. This is exactly why Nintendo has remained stagnant in years, not because of themselves, but because fans are pleased by and will buy absolutely any game Nintendo comes out with, no matter what's in the content.

@trigga1 And don't try to lecture me about Nintendo's impact or appeal, kid. I was a former die-hard Nintendo fanboy from the NES onward, I KNOW what I'm talking about.

Why do they have to be "Nintendo Fans"? Why not just "people who grew up during that age of gaming". Which is a lot of people.
When people respond to the word 'Mario', its not picking a side anymore. Get over you black and white gaming creed.

Do I turn into you if I don't get that 242nd Star in Super Mario Galaxy 2??...
Because i really need to go and get that if its going to turn me against the developers of a franchise whose last game has one of the highest Metacritic ratings (etc) and one of the most acclaimed games for its genre of all time...

@Nofriendo Because I grew up during that age of gaming and was an enormous Nintendo fan until about 3 years ago. Uttering the word "Mario", unlike for a lot of other people, doesn't make me salivate like a Pavlovian dog. I say "OK, there's a new Mario coming" and wait for more details, not "OMG BEST GAME EVER I NEED A PANTS CHANGE NAO".

SMB3-style crossed with Galaxy gameplay on the go. It'll sell like hotcakes because it's Mario.
Slight rant on my expectations here.
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the Galaxy games but they don't feel like real "3D Mario" titles. It's 2D linearity in a 3D plane- sure it's a lot of fun, but there's no huge environments to explore. When I was 6 and fell into Bob-omb Battlefield for the first time, I spent at least half an hour exploring the world. Sure, in comparison to modern games it's rather small but back then it was incredible. And just think how big a world they could make if they tried.

Mario Galaxy was heavily set up like Mario Bros 3. Mario Galaxy 2 more so.
Small, digestible areas filled with a set route that could either be skipped or toyed with through the use of many power ups.
But I agree. If they bring any form of Mario Galaxy to the 3DS then the world is finished. We would have reached perfection and the universe would have to implode and start all over again.

Super Mario World = SMB4
NSMB DS = SMB5
NSMB Wii = SMB6
So that makes Super Mario 3D = SMB7?

@tendoboy1984 I honestly hate number freaks like you, trying to be logical, Video Game numbering is anything but, the numbered iterations are always saved for the core titles in a franchise, anything else is technically an offshoot, no matter how similar to the source material (aka Halo Reach and Resident Evil:Code Veronica)
Your probably the same person who cried when we guessed that Sonic the Hedgehog 4 would in fact be called Sonic the Hedgehog 4.....
Theres a good chance that it could be called Super Mario Bros 4, and from a marketing stand point I cant think of a Mario title that would sell more!

You guys remember a game called "Super Paper Mario" from the early Wii days? I'm thinking it's probably that set in the SMB3 universe, minus the paper mario stuff. Maybe add in a wider variety of powerups picked out of the last 25 years of mario games, along with a few completely new ones for the mario team to brag about. And, maybe a bit more daring on level designs, such as those seen in user-created renderings of Mario Galaxy redone as a 2D platformer.

GoNintendo posted screens of the game. It looks like it runs off the Galaxy engine, it's in 3D (polygonal 3D like SM64), and small Mario is in it (which means the Super Mushroom will most-likely be in it too).
