Where was the release pressure to let such a bad game out in public? They published the game. It wasn't like they had some big publisher ready to drop them if they didn't release on time. Nintendo would have never let this happen with one of their games. Hold it back until it is a great game. This one is bad forever

@C1
Stardock's still a small developer/publisher. They don't have the resources Nintendo does.

I still have some interest in this game with the new patches. My biggest question is future support.

Size of the company is no excuse for lack of quality in the product

Stardock could have solved their problems with the release of Elemental by doing a 'public beta' (a la Halo: Reach and Gears 3) to gauge interest and to polish up the game before selling it in stores. That way, they would know what bugs were there and what worked and what didn't. They could offer that to people who bought Demigod, Galactic Civ 1 & 2, etc.

Instead, people bought a beta copy and paid retail price because the game was 'complete.'

@C1 Size of the company has ALL to do with the funds available to extend development time.

@C1 I was at the presentation at GDC. They didn't rush it out to meet a deadline. They were so blinded by the development process that they actually thought the game was amazing when they released it. It was only in hindsight that they realized it had so many issues.

"Unfortunately, the lack of oversight lead to some major problems. Like an entire class in Elemental shipping without armor abilities."

Lead vs. Led Entry #307719
The past tense of the verb lead—pronounced LEED—is led, which is the conjugation used for all subjects. Instead, people commonly write its homophone, lead, which refers to the element on the periodic table. There is a triangular relationship between these three words: Lead and lead are homonyms, led is a conjugation of lead, and led is a homophone of lead, the metal. Confused yet? Well, confusion is what the following examples will hopefully eliminate.

At sites known as buffalo jumps, Native Americans once led herds of bison over cliffs, sending them plunging to their deaths.
Children can obtain lead poisoning from eating paint chips.
Stop leading me on.
Robert E. Lee led the Confederate forces at Gettysburg, the largest battle of the American Civil War.
It was Colonel Mustard with the lead pipe in the conservatory!

I friggen love that slide. That picture perfectly sums up the problems with the game.

Not quite. The slide isn't brown enough. Also, it doesn't have anything that's virtually identical to the other options available.

Glad Sins of a Solar Empire and Demigod led me to avoid it at launch, though my brother wasn't so lucky.

The problem with the "no armor" incident wasn't that a developer decided to make a minor cosmetic change at the last minute. It was that he actually said "What could go wrong?"
