I agree. Don't support PC games that come with a $60 tag.

@laser beams My album is worth $15, but this game is worth way more than $15. $40 is perfect imo.

Honestly, the demo is not a good representation of the game. The demo is just an echo level where the whole point is to just try and get a high score. The campaign is much more fun. I thought the demo was just okay, but I absolutely loved the full game and have already played through it twice now. I have gone back to the echos since finishing the game and even find that a lot more enjoyable now that I know what I should be doing really.

At 40 bucks, I think it's more than reasonable. Lots of funny dialogue, explosions, and good times.

In Thailand, $40 can get you the night of your life.

I guess that had nothing at all to do with this article. Just reminiscing. :)

@Dizazter It's a great word. People make portmanteaus all the time without even realizing what they are (see, e.g., "brunch," "blog," "tweeps").

Yeah, a little high brow for gaming, but it's cool, I can dig it.

To be ridiculous and obnoxiously technical, I don't think most the words made up in Bulletstorm: "dandytarts", "dicktits", and "pus-dick" are portmanteaus though, they're just compound words. They keep both words in tact, where as a portmanteaus is a melding of two words into a new 3rd word, not just having the two words next to one another in one word.

For example: "doghouse", "fingerprint", and "eyebrow" are compound words, not portmanteaus.

Blog = portmanteau
Weblog = compound word

@Dizazter $20 bonus for preordering too, they already knew. Only reason couple of buds got it was for the Gear 3, they played it for 2 days and haven't seen them on it again.

Good price.

The game is just good fun. It reminds me of what games used to be about. Skipping the pretentious crap and just going for gameplay. Games try to take themselves too seriously often end up losing themselves and what made them fun to begin with (GTAIV). More games just need to lighten up and be pick-up an play without it being a portable game. Not everything needs to be "epic"

I find all shooters shallow so I can't comment on that but it's at least fun and while it wasn't $60 fun it's definitely $40 fun.

If you want to support the dev go ahead and go for it. While I like waiting for the Steam sales I do try to support a dev that I think tried something different. This is a nice in-between.

It also looks beautiful on the PC. A GTX 460 did just fine with it

I thought Bulletstorm actually took itself pretty seriously story-wise. There was a lot of attempted drama through the whole campaign regarding Ishi. I agree that some games should be a little lighter on drama (hopefully the next GTA will be more funny than serious), but I don't think this is as great an example as most people say. I enjoyed the mechanics of the game mostly, but I thought the story and the drama therein was kind of unnecessary and forced.

Think they realized buyers only wanted the Gears of War 3 beta code.

Btw, haven't played this, so no clue how the online community is for this game. I would've picked it up in heart beat if they had campaign co-op (online or off).

I'm in the same boat, I wasn't floored by the demo, but me and a buddy were talking about picking it up for story co-op. Once we found out it didn't have that, well, we both lost interest.

@Dirty I'm in the same boat, I'm just not that in love with this game despite the fact that I love these type of shooters. I played a few chapters in single player and a few rounds in Anarchy mode. Anarchy mode was a bit disappointing to me because the maps just seemed so small and the whole scoring requirement was a pain, especially when most of the people that I got paired with completely ignored the team aspect of it and just kept on killing stuff the old fashioned way.

I've been trying to get into it also, but just can't. It just doesn't hook me, at all. If it at least had some competitive multiplayer to fall back on, that'd be nice.

As it is, I just can't get into it. I'll try to at least get through the campaign, but then it looks like it'll be a trade-in.

The demo left a pretty bland taste in my mouth and since I'm still trying to catch up on other games, this one has turned into an "at some point" game for me. Idk what it was but I played through the demo once and just didn't see it. My friends each felt the same way after playing it.

Even $40 isn't selling it for me. Too many good games out that, you know, let me use my brain (everyone calls this a brainless shooter). I play games for the story and action, not just because it has swearing and blood.

@xreadmore

Doom was a brainless shooter. Mega Man is a brainless cartoony platformer. Burnout is a story-less racing game. Super Mario Bros. reuses the same basic plot over and over. Yet for some reason, these games are beloved by millions, despite the fact they have no plots.

Games don't need a story. They just need to be fun. I'm sick of how modern gaming is turning into "interactive movies". And to think it all started with Metal Gear Solid...

You're talking about games that defined a genre. Bulletstorm is in no way genre-defining in any way. In fact it's just another FPS in a vast sea of mindless middle-ware FPS games that are trying to cash in on the popular game-type. It's the kind of game that people pass on because it really is nothing more than a time-waster. And time-wasting games go for a buck a piece these days.

People (that bought it) are applauding this game for being a brainless shooter and talking it up for what it LACKS. That to me is just silly since games like Enslaved, which is amazing, get's little attention.

I'm not saying Bulletstorm is a bad game. I'm just saying right now there are too many better games out there for me to care about this one.

and just as a personal side note to add to something you said:

" It's the kind of game that people pass on because it really is nothing more than a time-waster. And time-wasting games go for a buck a piece these days."

Exactly. I don't HAVE time to waste. I'm not a teenager anymore; I have to choose what my time is spent on and as you said, there are just too many other better games out there right now. I tried the Bulletstorm demo and was just "eh" afterwards, didn't see any reason to play it, really.

@xreadmore It's fine for a game to have a story, but I hate it when a game forces you to give a damn when really all you want to do is play. Sometimes all I want to do is kill stuff, but the game will continually shove mini-movies in my face that stop me from enjoying myself. Even worse are games that have boring gameplay, long cutscenes, and a dramatic storyline that is either too complex or too stupid to care about. Give me good gameplay first and then if you have the time, a compelling storyline. For me, gameplay ALWAYS comes first.

DVDs cost about $16. Movie tickets cost about $7-$8. Blu-Ray movies cost about $20-$25.

Disc-based games cost about $40-$60.

Games are way too overpriced. Why is that? If DVDs cost that much no one would buy them. In order for gaming to become truly mass-market, their prices need to match DVD/Blu-Ray prices.

Also, movie budgets are much higher than the average game budget, yet movie studios are able to sell DVDs cheaply.

@tendoboy1984 Dude, that's just an absurd comparison - how many hours of entertainment do you get from a movie - 1.5-2, maybe 2.5 at most. Even a short game is 7-8 hours, and many are more than 10, some are pushing 15-20. I'm not saying they're not overpriced, I think 50 for big titles and 40 for regular ones would be the sweet spot, but 20-25 - now you're just pushing it.
