Ahhh. Infinite level up tricks. Takes me back to the NES days and the invisible enemy on the girders on level 2 in Double Dragon, and Zelda 2 with the fire spell and flying eyeball on the falling blocks battle sequences.

Ha. What a fast way to crush the fun of the game. Removing leveling from an RPG is like removing targeting from an FPS. Anyone who does this is really just ruining their own fun.

Not everyone needs to follow the regular way to have fun.
If someone wants to sit there and get Max level let them, the games entirely SP so whatever anyone does in their game isn't going to affect any if us.

Some people will probably enjoy the game more leveling up and then just having to focus on beating the game.

Let's play a game called you-say i-say.

you say "It's single-player. If they're only hurting themselves, then why should it bother you?"

i say "Anyone who does this is really just ruining their own fun."

I'm not screaming about it needing to be patched, a blight on the game or anything. Just expressing my thoughts on how removing the leveling aspect of an RPG is removing a massive part of the game. While yes, story IS important - If leveling wasn't part of the design for the fun, to give you that thrill of "omg yes I can finally use X sword or Y skill/spell", they would not have wasted their time putting it in the game.

I thought it goes without saying, but these were purely MY opinions and by no means law. I'm sure some people love to just cheat their way to max level and run through the game tromping enemies. I thought I did too when I played Morrowind on PC. About an hour later I was bored with the game since I could just moon jump over islands and kill things with my thoughts.

The issue is you completely ignored an aspect of the system to push your "Lul level-skip nubs". The game levels the enemies up alongside you. All you are doing then, is gimping yourself. At best, its only usefull to skip a level if you are really close to unlocking specialization points, or 3 pts off the next cunning tier, otherwise you are handing the enemies the spiked metal dildo, and even bending over for them.

You're right, the game PENALIZES you for leveling. Here I was thinking there were benefits for your hard work leveling up. Silly me. All these years I've been playing RPGs wrong since apparently scaling enemies means leveling up is fruitless. The obtained skills, new strategies, flexibility, and associated power ups are completely null and void since enemies level up with you. Stupid Punkrawk.

@Punkrawk Bbob It really depends based on what you find fun.

To some degree, I like the challenge of naturally progressing through the game as intended. But then, I also love to start a New Game+ with all of my levels and equipment in tact and set everything on five different kinds of fire. Sure, the game balances it out with tougher enemies, but the increased ability set you get at higher levels is generally a lot more fun to play.

Some people prefer the awesome power of the high levels over the natural progression. I say let them have what they want. Or at least what they think they want.

Oh, i totally agree with New Game+... But that's because I already ran through the game naturally once. I remember running through Tales of Symphonia 3 times in a row because of all the awesome bonus features you can buy with the New Game+ files.

Man I miss that game....

What YOU are continuing to ignore is doing this gimps you by doing so, and the skills do nothing to help if you don't have the equipment to back it all up. The game doesn't penalize you for leveling up along the curve, like ANY game. But when you veer off the curve it then becomes an issue.

Any competent person would be able to understand that. But hey, you said it yourself, "stupid punkrawk".

I'm surprised by the animosity towards this that some people are showing. Sure, I wouldn't do it myself, but it's a SINGLE PLAYER RPG. Someone else taking advantage of this glitch in no way harms or impacts the rest of us.

Honestly, there is no reason why this should even be something that anyone other than the QA team worries about.

Pretty much.

Once you've paid their $60, then you can dictate how they play their game. Otherwise, who cares, it doesn't affect you.

Multiplayer is another story entirely.

@butaneko Not much of it on joystiq. Although there are a couple choice comments, like this one: "People always have to ruin a good thing.."

Mostly I'm referring to the general atmosphere of the internet's discussion of this. The idea that this is newsworthy at all, comments like the one above, and even the idea that this is really even a problem.

I'm not even sure they should patch it. it's not the sort of glitch that someone's going to run into accidentally - and least not more than once. And I'm a proponent of letting people enjoy their single player game however they want, right down to letting them hack save files, mod the game, cheat the crap out of it, whatever.

Though the funny thing about glitches like this in games like this, are how many people do them thinking they're going to be this all-powerful being, and the first group of upscaled enemies destroys them because they don't have decent gear.

Ahhh, I should try it on the 360 version then. It doesn't give you a chance to use the glitch with the tomes though it seems like, since they are used automatically, instead of giving you the chance to use them, so there's no stat glitching.
