this is getting nasty now, if LG doesn't win Sony is going to want their money for these past couple weeks of no sales

And if LG wins well damn...I'll never buy anything from them ever again haha

@eat it you already did buy something from them if you own a ps3. Thats what this lawsuit is about. Them not getting paid for what they feel is theirs.

Despite what @Jack Kevorkian says (and perhaps the logic in it) and have been wondering about this sort of thing myself.

If LG does win this, how many angry gamers are they going to have on their hands will never buy one of their products again, especially if they're some how able to win this in the US as well?

I mean, I'm not any sort of economist, but could the cost of lost sales outweigh what they'd gain from winning this battle with Sony?

Like I said, there is some logic to what @Jack Kevorkian is saying, but I know of plenty illogical gamers...

Oh please. Even if LG does win and gamers swear in their wrath to never buy an LG product ever again, that's like, what? 150 people? And out of these 150 gamers, 140 of them will grow up one day and realize exactly how much this doesn't matter to them personally. The other 10 will probably die young and stupid.

@cantwait2bhome and @eat it,

the one thing you have to keep in mind is that LG would have never started this process if sony hadn't pulled out the we own patents on things you use in your cell phones, If LG had planned on suing sony over patents that they developed and had rights to then they would have started 5 years ago and not now.

So while this is total crap for gamers if LG does win, cause this may end up coming to america next, you have to remember sony started this ball rolling because they got greedy and decided that they needed to get more money for who knows what reason.

I love games and enjoy all 3 systems for there strength's and weaknesses but it makes me wonder what happened with sony that they went from doing everything right with the PS2 to doing so much wrong with the PS3 in terms of how they support consumers.

you just hit the nail on the head. they don't care about me and I don't care about them. I like Playstation. They want to stop Playstation. I don't like that. It's that simple.

I just wouldn't buy anything from them ever again. There's a dozen other electronics manufacturers out there. I'll be fine buying from other companies. I'll just get samsung or something. My life won't change

Hardly.

For every "angry gamer" that visits these blogs, there are far more people out there that are ignorant of whats going on between two mega corps.

Besides, I purchase what I want, by the quality and value I perceive. We're building a new home, and all appliances & most electronics going in are top of the line LG.

Lastly, you may wish to do a little research before venting on LG. Sony pissed in their corn flakes first, and LG is simply returning the favor.

Well I never buy from LG anyway(their products are rather mediorce imo) but I think its assholeish-ness of demanding that consoles in homes also be confiscated.

Granted, the logistics of actaully pulling that off is nearly impossible so I doubt something that would ever happen. I believe that Sony should be responsible to pay LG(if LG wins their case) but don't you think the idea confiscating/destroying consoles that people already bought to be a bit extreme?

And I just want to reiterate that I really doubt LG would go that far, the point of this case is to get money, not destroy a brand. Having the court on their side just means that they have a pretty powerful stick on hand for when at the negotiation table.

They don't want to stop Playstation. They want to make money off of Playstation because they believe Sony is using LG patented technology inside the device. LG just wants compensation for their efforts.

Whether their claim is true is to be determined. LG would actually benefit if Playstation continued because Sony would have to pay them.

@eat it - So it doesn't matter to you if their claims are warranted? Sony should just get a free pass, because you enjoy the games on their console?

I know this isn't game related, but my father once swore to never buy anything from Best Buy again. Within a year, he was back. I don't think LG has anything to worry about, because the average lifespan of a boycott isn't very long anyway.

again I don't care about LG. I don't even care about Sony. I like Playstation. If that gets stopped. I won't be buying LG. I don't care what they do after that. unless they release a replacement for playstation that is of the same quality

seems very vengeful for a real company.

@Jack Kevorkian - My father has the strongest will of anyone I know. It's his memory that fails him. He forgets why he was pissed off at a store, and then he goes back to shopping (or eating) there like they never wronged him.

I have far less will. I don't even bother acting like I'm not going to shop somewhere again. Except for Gamestop. I haven't been in a Gamestop in many years.

I've never even stepped foot in a Starbucks or a Walmart, and haven't stepped foot in a McDonald's since I was little. Your father's experience with boycotts in no way represents boycotts as a whole, just as mine don't.

@ferret - I know, but when was the last time a store/retailer/business/etc was boycotted successfully? Granted, I've only been alive for two decades and change, but I can't think of any good examples off the top of my head. People have been angry at many businesses (the example of BP given above is a good one) but they continue to do business there anyway. At the end of the day, anger at someone or something doesn't last on the large scale necessary to make a boycott work (maybe it did in the past, but I can't see it happening now).

Just out of curiosity; What did Starbucks do to wrong you? (I haven't had a drop of caffeine in years now, and as such, I haven't really been in a Starbucks except on a date. People around here seem to love them though.)

@Vesuvium - They can go in peoples homes, but the chances of them doing it are small. How would they figure out which homes had the consoles, for starters, and then how would they get those people to agree to let them in and take their console? Not to mention that the idea of the government (any government) going house to house taking video game consoles is absurd.

I'd wait to see how a court decides who is in the legal wrong before I blanket decided which company feel slightly more ire towards. Tho I doubt said Ire would translate into lost sales for either.

I'll agree with one of jacks earlier posts tho, neither of these companies could care less if you dropped dead this second. So it on some level perplexes me why people seem to care so much about them and their inner corporate butthurt.

It's only fair to LG. Sony haven't a leg to stand on, and it wouldn't have happened if they had returned the 'favour' with LG's phones. It's business and you don't get anywhere in business by being charitable to those who walk on you.

Of course, I'd rather see a settlement that means PS3s are still around than not.

I love people vowing to never buy LG products again, because (if found true) they are not being paid for their part in the creation of blu-ray. Contrary to popular belief, Sony didn't come up with blu-ray all on their own. Multiple companies were involved but only Sony seems to have been reaping the profits from the blu-ray goodness of the PS3. How can you smite LG for wanting payment for something they had a hand in creating? Whether it has merits or not will be for a court to decide, but we all know why the shit tornado started in the first place...Sony wanting payment for something they had a hand in creating (LG Phones.)
