You know it's an emergency when Japan is willing to go without Final Fantasy for any length of time.

Considering FF14 has a world wide player population of 5, not surprising to see it shut down.

@This Little Man Says His Name Is - I don't know about that "5" count dude~ it seems a bit too high in my notice to the population of ff14. Remember in this months Game Informer there is a dedicated player in that game.. even if he's been trying to cancel it for months now~~~~

I bet they're still experiencing aftershocks. Their aftershocks have been the magnitude of most ordinary earthquakes. As of yesterday morning, I'd heard somewhere that they'd already experienced at least 120 aftershocks.

The whole situation is unbelievable and surreal. This seems like a no-brainer, but I'm glad SE is doing this.

I was just reading an article saying that over a million homes are without electricity and running water. It's good to hear that they are trying to conserve energy for people who need it.

Earthquakes suck :(.

There's also intentional rolling blackouts across the country, even areas relatively unaffected, to help conserve power.

It's simply amazing how an earthquake is easy to protect against but a tsunami can come in and just obliterate everything. And I just mean that I never appreciated just how immensely powerful they can be. Sweeping away buildings made to withstand extremely powerful earthquakes.

It's an unfortunate flaw in humanity. If we aren't the ones suffering we don't understand why we should be inconvenienced. But if people actually informed themselves on the situation they might actually feel differently.

Conspiracies are controlled situations for the benefit of individuals pulling the strings.

You're talking about crackpot theories based on a very loose connection of facts that most recognize are just coincidences. Perfect example is how everyone saw so much in Lost that wasn't there based on little things in the show that even the production team said there was nothing there. I *REALLY* doubt the planet cares about our Christian based calender.

If anyone out there is going to donate, make sure that you don't fall for any of the scams out there. Sadly, criminals like to take advantage of natural disasters, and this one isn't any different. When in doubt, just donate to an established charity like the Red Cross.

I know how much of a stress reliever an MMO can be, and it is a shame that some won't be able to experience that relief for a while. Having said that, it is completely understandable, considering the blackout that is still afflicting a large area of Japan, and the nuclear emergency that is unfolding.

The scariest part of this entire thing (for me anyway) is that this could be a small glimpse into what an earthquake might look like in San Francisco. I fear for family members that live in the area. We all knew that Japan was primed for a massive quake, but seeing it happen is still jarring, and I can only imagine what it is like for those that actually live in the region, or for those who have lost loved ones during this tragedy.

I can only assume by the mass amount of "LOL" you're typing that you're joking or a complete idiot.

Unfortunately it seems to be leaning towards the latter.

"also no i dont play FF anything newer than FF9 sucks. but i know what alot of you nerds are thinking and you are just upset that i typed it out lol."
- Please, PLEASE do not try and talk on anyone else's behalf. I'm not as presumptuous as you are, but in any given case I can guarantee people playing FF11 and 14 have an appreciation of Japanese culture and therefore those affected by this insanely tragic situation. As for claiming Japan is prone to tsunami and they were aware of the risk, not everyone has the ability to abandon everything they've grown up with and leave the people they love or even have the financial means to do so on the slim chance that something like this will happen. This was a result of the worst earthquake in recorded history for Japan. Many generations has lived their entire lives there without anything like this happening. It's just plain ignorant to say they signed on for this. That's like saying everyone in the Seattle area should just accept that one day Mount Rainier will explode and cake everything in lava and by living there deserves it when it blows.

Seriously, can we ban this guy Joystiq? Speedracer is being incredibly insensitive for no other reason but to troll and piss on people for being human.

@Make it so

What a dumb non-sequitur. I donated to Geohot's legal defense because I don't think companies should be able to bankrupt someone for hacking around with equipment they purchased.

Strangely enough, I was not "too busy" to donate to Red Cross when I saw the news stories about the Japanese earthquakes and had a massive sad.

When you donate to something on Paypal, it does not make you too busy or too poor to ever donate again if something more important comes along.

Jesus Christ, what do you do when your local Girl Scout troop comes selling cookies to raise money so they can do craft projects and campouts? I imagine you start ripping into them with, "Where were you little bitches during the HAITI EARTHQUAKES, huh?!?"
