You forgot to put "Follow @AmazonAppStore " in the article....

I'm sure they will be running all kinds of specials and sales when they launch to get people to use it over the basic store

@Nytemare nothing wrong with that at all.....the ads dont really bother me tho....given I dont play it much...and often times when I do Its on the shitter....a place where for some reason I tend to lose signal anyways...which means no ads...

Same. Especially when it's FIFTY NINE PENNY's.

People always do comparisons with cheap products on this site. "5 dollhairs? Oh I could buy a flight to Atlanta for that".

Well 59p is actually nothing. Here's a list of things that cost less than 59p;
Air.

Here is a list of things that cost more than 59p;
Everything else.

I find segmentation of marketplaces like this pretty irritating. I don't need yet another app that really does nothing but give me an Amazon controlled Android Market.

@Softserve Uhhhh fragmentation? Look at it as the more cleaned up version of the Android market...at least thats what I'm hoping...if you dont like it then don't download the app....simple as that....

also dont download PlayStation Suite....I mean its only gonna be another fragmented market app too.... right?

You lose simplicity like the iPhone store but you gain choice and options. Both have their pluses and minuses. Personally since I don't game much on my phone I prefer the iPhone method. Updates all under one roof.

I was scared for a second. I thought you were saying it was only coming out on Android.

What world would we live in if a new Angry Birds didn't come out for iPhone?!

@KinseySS the world of #Exclusivity....and the way shit is going and people are thinking "Consoles are dying" then its only a matter of time before Google or Apple cuts a check for a "Timed Exclusive" check much like MS has been doing....

Probably the same thing Android users do when something is released exclusivly for iOS.

I thought 3rd party marketplaces were forbidden by Google's ToS? Isn't that why Kongregate got shut down for a bit? Because there were purchases being made outside of the Marketplace and Google wasn't getting a cut?

Or am I just completely mistaken?

That only applies to Android Market. There's nothing stopping them from implementing their own app-store, distributing it to new customers will be a bit of a hassle though.

@superklye

Raniz85 is correct.

There's a slight separation between the Operating System itself and the "Google Experience". The Operating System is completely open-source, you can download the source, tinker and recompile any way you like. However, there are some propitiatory elements which many Android smartphones on the market contain -- such as Google Maps, Google Mail and, most importantly, Google Market -- but are not part of the Android Operating System itself, hence, not distributed with the source code you can pull down from Android Open Source Project (AOSP).

There's several reasons Google did this, mostly to enforce some restraints on manufacturers, putting pressure on OEMs to create devices which are best suited towards Android's strengths, mainly mobile phone support, however, tablet support is now there with the advent of Android 3.0. It's also to protect customers, keeping their secure transaction protocol and related assets a secret. And it also enables Google to police the Market, removing things like malicious applications. 3rd Party App Stores are included in this embargo, perhaps to prevent malicious App Stores suckering in the less technologically literate.

This does not mean that 3rd party stores can't come pre-loaded on some Android devices. In Japan, many DoCoMo devices come with "GameCenter" installed, a 3rd party game distribution network for mobile phone games in the region (which you can download yourself if you were really interested, it's great finding obscure Japanese games like "I Love Katamari" on Android... In English to boot, although the GameCenter UI is Japanese and will require basic-to-intermediate knowledge of the language to navigate and there's no guarantee all games come with English screentext). You can also download and install 3rd Party App Stores on your devices manually, thus you remove any liability which Google could be held accountable for if you get suckered into a 3rd Party App Store.

Of course, I should point out that Google has a vested interest in keeping their Market and the Android User Experience under their thumb, hence why they block 3rd Party App Stores. It also means that they can hold those who use Google's new Market Payments system under watch, anyone who violates the Terms of Service can get their App pulled from the Market, as well as phones it's installed on in some cases. And I should note that Google charges developers to put their applications onto the Android Market, I believe it's a $25 a year payment to use their services, something they wont get if developers use a 3rd Party App Store.

I swear to god Rovio mobile is run by a group of trained monkeys.

Hey Rovio. Remember GetJar? Remember how much of a disaster that exclusivity deal was? Remember ending up using the Android marketplace anyway because not only did no one know how to install the app from GetJar, but the traffic killed their servers? Nope? Then How about Intel's Appup then? How's that working for you when there are much better, established game services out there such as Steam or even Games for Windows Live? Good? Well go right ahead! Might as well screw up a third release to another app store no one uses.

Is it just me, or do those birds keep looking less and less angry?

In that image, I would call it tired/annoyed. As if they are trying to say, "When you are done flinging us into sh*t, we would appreciate it."
