For gaming enthusiasts looking to capture direct-feed gameplay, there aren't many solutions out there, let alone affordable ones. Roxio has announced a $99 device for console gameplay video capture and a $49.99 software package for Windows PC video capture. The former handles resolutions up to 480p, while the PC option can capture "in HD at full screen resolutions." Oddly enough, the console capture device only lists Xbox 360 and PS3 compatibility, though the Wii does 480p just fine.
Both Game Capture releases feature a full software suite for editing videos, with swipes, fades, fonts and all of the other bells and whistles most would expect. There's also functionality that allows users to directly export their edited videos to YouTube.
The console capture kit will be on sale for $99.99 on March 24, while the PC capture software suite will retail for $49.99 and is slated for a Q2 launch.

Seriously? There's been software and hardware like this for years. Ever heard of FRAPS? The problem with PC recording software is the software would have to record at the same time you're playing, unless you were to use a splitter and have 1 PC record while the other PC plays. For PC's it's best to use a games demo record feature and then record it later.
For consoles there are many options already available that are around $100 and feature full HD input.
Fail.

Did you miss the bit where they said 480p?
480p
I can't stress this enough, 480p. Why on earth would I want to capture ANYTHING at 480p?
If it's not 1080p HDCP circumventing awesomeness, colour me completely disinterested.
Yes, colour has a 'u' in it, it's the way her majesty intended it.

@(Unverified) Kotaku posted a video and it looks great. 480p is fine for that price when it includes the editing software and the hardware to pull from it. Most software that people use costs around $200+. FRAPS quality isn't always that hot and it can be a resource hog.

This would be my problem with the PC package. If I was getting some hardware that could capture the game running in glorious full performance, then it would sound like a good idea; but with this, you're just paying for more software when there's so many options already available.

I've been using it for a few months now. The quality is great, here is a sample http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_DNK60Y-j0&hd=1
Its better to spend the extra $87 and get up to 1080i

There's plenty HD solutions like the Hauppauge devices that do 720p-1080p console video capture for about $150-199.

When I saw 49.99$ and 480p I was sold. But then I saw 49.99 was for software only.
Why would I pay 99$ for Enhanced Definition when an extra 30$ will get me High Definition? That's just silly.
I guess I'll just stick with my 480i capturecard and some deinterlace software.

@RITHsv The 50$ one is a software only suite that only captures what is being displayed on your PC. Not what your console is displaying. Whcih again, is a total ripoff given you can use free software to capture the entirety of your screen, even at post-1080p resolutions.
So 100$ for a gimped component capture card when paying a bit more will get you 1080p.
And 50$ for software that has a free alternative.
Can't say either look appealing in the least.

Well CoDBlOps renders at 1,024x608 or 960x544... so you really aren't missing much. If you want to play at full 1080p like you all are claiming, the only option is on a PC.
Also on the PC you can record demos for free with fraps, or a console command.

@VeeDeeVee Exactly. What most of the people above who only know of FRAPS, and don't use FRAPS, do not know is how much of a hog FRAPS really is. You need a pretty hefty machine to not only record the game at a decent FPS/resolution but also to even play the game decently to begin with. Then again, that would take logic and we all know the "herp derp" commentors disregard that mostly.

I've been doing this since 2002, and for $29 bucks at the time. I had a TV Card with S, and composite video. Have not checked, but there's gotta be new ones with hdmi capabilities.

This post sounds like a press release and as pointed out by everyone else, this product sounds unimpressive.
I got a Dazzle recorder for just as much, at the same resolution. On PC, I got FRAPS, which has been around for years.

@WiNGSPANTT from TopTierTacticsco Kotaku also posted and even included a video they recorded and it looks nice. FRAPS is a resource hog and doesn't include the hardware for consoles. Kotaku also mentioned that they run a device for 1080i but that its twice as much.

I would need at least 720p. At least this is something that is reasonably affordable for consoles though. I can do PC easily. As for consoles I never really bothered with it.

As many have said it's a total rip-off, more than likely brought on by making it a "gaming" capture card rather than a generic one that'll do the 480p stuff just as well for much much less. And $50 for PC game capture software is stupidly expensive. Especially when you have FRAPS for free/$37.
I think I'll pass. A $100 HD capture card would be a nice offer though if Roxio are reading.
