Turn up your bass volume too much and shake the console to pieces! I imagine bass is less sexy and perceived as less difficult to learn, so the game is targeting guitar more? Who knows, would be an extra incentive to buy.

There's showing up late to a party and then there's showing up two days late and wondering why there's a dead stripper in the bathroom and the cops are swarming the place.

Finally. I was hoping for something like this. I don't want to buy another guitar (I have two real guitars, and three plastic ones already) to play Rock Band 3's Pro-Mode. Hopefully it translates well.

ill keep track of this, never bougth any of the other rhythm games since i got a whole gang of real instruments in my house already, cant deal with plastic anything

i think this will simplify songs to a point where i might not be interested lol

The only thing it has going for it is that you can use any guitar on it...and that's not really enough for me to be buying another music game. However, my first impression of this makes me believe that this won't even be a traditional type game but rather a full-blown digital guitar trainer.

I do have to ask HMX though...GH got a whole bunch of Rolling Stone songs and now this game is getting atleast one. Why on earth haven't you released any DLC for them yet?!

@TraceurRyuk Part III you had to buy like, one of 3 exact models of guitars. made specfically for the game but also worked for real. they were rather cheap tho and i heard sounded kinda bad for real guitars

I like that they put the fretboard in the same orientation as TAB -- that is a huge plus for people who can actually play already.

If this means I can plug my existing electric guitar into the game I'm down for sure. I was looking at the Rock Band 3 strat, but I already have a nice stratocaster and don't really want to spend money on a cheap one.

Skimming over the article, I read "Korn explains the project was..." before reading the part about "Greg Korn" just before it. For a second there, I thought Ubi made a horrible choice in finding a band to attach to this project.

THIS i am interested in. I liked the singing and the drums of the Rock Band games, but never cared much for the guitar part. I have rock band 2 & the beatles, but never was i interested in purchasing an actual $300 guitar that works with rock band 3. I do however, have my '52 vintage telecaster that i love playing. the little trailer/ad gets it right. i love my guitar because of the feel of the neck and construction of the guitar. ubi is appealing to the guitar playing crowd, not the 5-button fret crowd, and i like that. hopefully this game turns into something fun and not crapware. get to it ubisoft!

And me too, has been waiting for a game like this...
Why would I buy a ~300$ RB3Pro Guitar if I already have
2 real ones AND a Logitech 5 Button Rock Band Guitar...

I hope it turns out to be good!

Is this basically the game I like to play called "you have youtube and a guitar and the ability to play along with songs you like?"

Because that game is free.

@MatthewBlackwell

at that point you could say why not just play along to a CD. you don't even need internet for that. this might have the ability to add distortion or effects. grante they probably won't be great but still. if some owns a guitar and a PS3 it's only going to cost the same as buying any other game out there. and then wait until it drops to $15...it could be neat.

From http://gaming.stackexchange.com/questions/6644/will-a-normal-electric-guitar-work-with-rock-band-3/6648#6648

"There is a major technical hurdle that has to be overcome for anything to detect the "sound" of the strings - the low frequency of sound wavelengths. Middle C has a wavelength around 250 Hz. Therefore, it will take at least .04 seconds to simply register for a full cycle read. Other notes will take even longer - up to a few tenths of a second. In addition to increased levels of lag, notes that were played together will not be fully recognized at the same time. It may be accomplished one day, but this is a very hard problem to solve."

Doing this as well as everyone seems to be expecting is simply impossible. Sorry Ubisoft - this game is doomed.

@BlueRajasmyk

If it can teach some a song I'm sure that person isn't going to matter if the games doesn't give that person a 100% every time. If I'm learning a beatles song, I think I can figure out on my own if what I'm playing sounds right without relying on the game 100%. It seems like it might just be a guide or a starting point.

i think the idea is interesting, little late to be fully supported but still. I wonder how this will work exactly, so if your guitar isnt tuned right it will autofail you? lol there are lots of variables here to fix.

@MatthewBlackwell

I love "reel" life. Young people love guitars, junkyard furniture, and a shitload of speakers to show their hipness in their massive, almost vacant apartments.

What a way to connect to "real people".

Aside from the wavelength and lag issues already stated, note detection is theoretically very possible. The lag would be an issue. Unless it doesn't give out points until the end of the song or something.
