Maybe you weren't aware, but sniper rifles fire really, really large bullets. The latest Battlefield 3 trailer plays on that truth, showcasing a squad of US soldiers avoiding "an effing 50." That's alotta metal!

So because you pre-ordered a game and got some extra bonus content, you're not going to pre-order a game again?

No, b/c that "bonus" content was already on the disc and instead of just saying so and releasing it Day 1 they BS'd us over several months. It would've been better if they said "We want you to buy this game new. If you buy it new day 1 you get 10 extra maps. If not, then you have to pay $15."
They didn't do that. They dragged us on for months, each time releasing only 2 maps with each update that didn't even take 10 seconds to download. They were "unlocked".

It would be cool, if they gave us the option to use our own sniper rifle along with using the rocket launcher.

Its very common in military slang to refer to guns by their caliber. I.E. "He's packing a 9 milimeter" or "Get on that .22 and surpress the target."
Because its a lot easier to say "fifty" or "fifty cal" than "fifty caliber sniper rifle" when people know what you are talking about.

@all of you
These were my thoughts just by reading what Joystiq wrote about the video while waiting for it to stream.
I was merely pointing out that joystiq set the dot wrong. A 50 cal is shortened ".50" and not "50." as far a I know. Just a little grammar nazi like thing.
My thoughts after watching the video...well, even the joystiq commentsection is the wrong place to properly express that...might get banned for obcenety.

@Kiichi But where the hell does militia find .50 cal sniper rifles?
Anyway, this piece was also really BAD like the first one. Fancy graphics, ye sure. That guy just brings his head up but doesn't get shot makes the fear of a sniper just disappear... which seems just as horribly designed and thought out as many of the singleplayer scenes on Homefront.

Sniper's gotta reload sometime.
But I agree, you can tell they make it intentionally one sided to make it more cinematic. I mean look at those awful shots that hit stuff around them.

Actually Kiichi is correct and the "decimal" IS in the wrong spot. Since the "50" being mentioned is a unit of measurement, The decimal goes in front if the number.
The correct tagline should have read ..."an effing .50".
on a side note, I own one. If anyone would like to see a pic of me holding this massive weapon, send me a note :-)

Actually you're both wrong. Since it's a spoken abbreviation, it doesn't matter who it's transcribed. If you *really* want to be a grammar nazi about it, the correct term would be "fifty," because that's what he actually says, not "point-fifty" or "point five-oh."
Are we done yet?

I will definitely be a preorder monkey on this one!

That was amazing! But, I think they over did it with the sniper fire. IRL a sniper wouldnt fire that frequently without having a good view of his target, to decrease his chances of being spotted. A sniper is only effective when you dont know where he is.
Then again, the sniper in this trailer was probably just some noob.

@SpaceFox its safe to say hes a noob, especially if u cant at least get a lucky shot off 4 soldiers passing through AC units, could have at least anticipated one of them.

Also wouldn't use a 50 cal as a normal round. They can't be suppressed as they're a supersonic round. Plus, the cost makes them poor anti-personnel rounds and are more regularly used for extreme range, static targets.

He should've taken advantage of the penetrating power of the 50 and punched through the AC units when the soldier were clearly lined up at the corner. Easy pickings.

Obviously the sniper's been playing too much CoD and was trying to see if he could get a 360-quickcope-wallbang-collateral for his Machinima Montage.
