Way to show compassion for people dude. Japan is fighting for their way of life and you only care about your racing game.

I feel sorry for them. I really do. My brother's best friend lives in tokyo and may have to move back to america with his family after 12 years over there. I've donated $500. I pray and I'm not even religious. There is nothing more I can do.

But I have to ask how is me not playing a racing game going to make it better or worse? This might come a surprise to you but the lives of those affected by this terrible tragedy don't revolve around our gaming habits.

we invaded two countries and had no problem buying a half dozen games directly influenced by those invasion as they were still happening

above all, I don't think delaying the recovery of the japanese economy is the smartest thing to do right now.

delaying a game doesn't seem like compassion. how about they release the game and then donate some of the profits to the relief. that makes a lot more sense.

From the link provided in this article:
"While neither company directly cited the massive earthquake and devastating tsunami that struck Japan on March 11 as the cause of the delays, it's evident that the disaster prompted the moves; though it's unknown if the reasons extend beyond the two games' disaster-themed premises. Andriasang also reports that Sony has temporarily closed its PlayStation repair and information center, located in one of the worst hit areas of Japan, the Miyagi Prefecture. Just yesterday, Square Enix temporarily shut down the Final Fantasy XI and XIV servers to conserve power in the country."

Many companies have stalled production because of the earthquake and the danger of a nuclear meltdown. While the disaster theme is not appropriate at the moment, I doubt that would be the reason most gaming companies are being affected.

Oxyrt called it a "load of bull" and doesn't even care the real reason why Motorstorm is delayed. Maybe just wait a little longer for this game to come out and leave out saying unnecessarily negative comments.

I personally don't mind waiting a bit more for this game to come out considering there are many good games coming out soon and how about we let them just get their act together.

Your brothers' friend is but one of many FLEEING from Japan.. and he lives in TOKYO?! The place that was not hit by the TSUNAMI? Are we so easily swayed by the main SLIME media with all those Dumb Arse LIES? Do they all fear radiation Death?! From reactors HUNDREDS of MILES AWAY?!!!

I am ashamed in the actions of my nations people living there. It totally smacks of the greatest form of COWARDLINESS~ Shame on all of them. SHAME-

In regards to the game = Japan has delayed a far more pertinent game that deals with what they handle every day and this Cowardly action on the part of sony is.. typical. Fear of lady gaia and chinocs is becoming a habit on game companies and hollyweird.. so flippin' typical~~~~

Are you speaking about the same Japanese people I know? Because they would usually lower their standard of living, just to get a game system/game they want. I've seen it folks, it's crazy what they would do for a game. Of course, during these times in Japan, they have more to worry about than a video game.

Excuse me, I'm trying to understand how this is censorship.

The publishing companies country has had an devastating earthquake, followed by a horrid tsunami, then followed horrible nuclear crisis.

They are now pausing on the release of a game that would most likely have those concepts in it. While this is America and what has happen, took place in japan. This in no form censorship.

You need to learn how to have patience young grass hopper, if you wanted the game this bad you can wait a little more.

Don't even bother trying, mywhitenoise is thick and doesn't understand that it isn't censorship in any way, shape, or form. All he does is complain about it being a war on free speech or some nonsense. I tried it for about 8 full-length comments in the UK/Asia delayed thread, but he still insists that this is still an atrocity of some sort.

Alright, this is all I'm posting in response to you since you're the most ignorant person I've ever run into on these boards.

BUY A FK'ING DICTIONARY.

"Censorship is the suppression of speech or deletion of communicative material which may be considered objectionable, harmful, sensitive, or inconvenient to the government or media organizations as determined BY A CENSOR."

The company who CREATED this is deciding to DELAY this. Nothing is being surpressed. Nothing is being deleted. No third party is editing or removing anything. Hence this = NOT CENSORSHIP.

Idiot.

No, just delay it so it isn't IMMEDIATELY following everyone's life being ruined. Once reality sets in, the balance gets restored with peoples minds and have to start returning to work / doing their daily routine again - Then release is fine. At the moment though, it's really far from being "normal".

The release of the game would have no bearing on the lives of those effected. Sony wasn't making this game in response to the quake to capitalize on it. Any sane, rationally thinking person wouldn't even give a shit. Jesus christ, what's wrong with all you people.

@8bitartist Yes. Waiting for a month is a no-no especially if the Japanese people are still trying to contain the disaster a week after it started. It doesn't look like they can contain the nuclear problem anytime soon.

And nobody (but you) said waiting for 2 months is ok. Heck I don't think they'll release the game before June. If they release it soon it's like Sony saying "hey insensitive people our apocalypse game is out please buy it! "

Ya, you went out on that limb and fell off. I'm not a believer. I thought I just talked about being sane and rational.

As far as the rest of your abstract ideas, you or anyone else for that matter still haven't explained what this supposed "impact" is supposed to be. If I saw my family burn in house fire and then saw a house on fire in a game I wouldn't think that the game devs were being insensitive to me.

Do you think Sony was doing this out of respect or because they didn't want a shit storm that people like you would bring against them. It might actually make good business sense for them not to release it if you are a good sample to go by.

I just think that it's an honorable thing that they DID delay it. I don't think there would be any outcry if this was released. I think they just realized it's a shitty thing to do. Plain and simple.

You're definitely grasping at straws here...

The very LAST thing anyone who's lives were affected by the disaster should be worrying about is the release of a game overseas...
I don't care what the theme or release date is...

I might not be able to spare any real compassion for a country I've lived in before (or even America, the one I live in now, for that matter), but in all honesty I, and a few others, I'm sure, can't exactly FORCE ourselves to cry tears of blood for the victims over there...however, I can respect the fact that there are some people that do...

I just fail to see how delaying the release of a game that's eventually gonna get released regardless translates into compassion...there's really no such thing as "too soon"...

I understand completely that you want to be politically correct and all that. And I feel just as bad for Japan as everyone else. I have donated to charity and all that. But I don't get this. It seems kinda vague anyways. I mean, it's not like they're saying "Yeah, this is based off the earthquake in Japan". What's even worse is that if this were after Haiti, it would come out. Releasing it a few months from now wont change the past either. It already has a tie to the tsunami...simply because of the fact that SONY s tying it to the disaster.
Now when the game comes out everyones going to say "oh, that's the game that was delayed because of what happened in Japan a few months ago".

If this was delayed because the developers were in Japan, I wouldn't mind. But while I understand how there could be hesitation about a world falling apart around you in a game, it's just that... a game. Being tasteful is fine, but I think we're all mature enough to realize this is completely unrelated to ANY real world events. If the president was killed with a bow and arrow, I wouldn't expect Nintendo to make Link carry a machine gun instead.

Ok, that was a bad example, but you get the point.

I highly doubt it. The game was already finished (it would have to be for April 12). The press already have review copies. Most likely they're waiting until a more opportune time to ramp up marketing for the game. I don't think anyone would look kindly on tv adverts for a game about racing through a crumbling skyline...

The gaming industry as a whole have put the breaks on with so many delays and cancelations. And in light of the economic problems and the estimated 120 billion dollars repair cost for the disaster in Japan I can't think of anything worse they can do right now. I understand why they're taking such precautions but sometimes you've just got to do what you have to do.
