MotorStorm Apocalypse delayed indefinitely in North America
100
Sony has put the brakes on the North American release of MotorStorm Apocalypse, delaying the game indefinitely in the wake of last week's devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan. The delay, announced on the PlayStation Blog, doesn't exactly come as a surprise, given that the title's launch had previously been postponed in Japan and the UK.
Set in an earthquake-ravaged costal city, the Evolution Studios developed racer had been scheduled for release on April 12. Sony told Joystiq earlier this week that the date still stood. When contacted today, SCEA confirmed the delay and added that there is "no new date at the moment."

They're gonna have to take that Japan level out of the game. No doubt there was one.

Well, I saw this on GAF...
"Other than the obvious similarities, being set in a city struck by an earthquake and all, there's a cut-scene early in the career mode where a character kicks over a model of the city and someone says "Whoops, there goes Tokyo!". Felt a bit awkward after the past weeks events."
That may have to be removed, at the very least.

Yep. They didnt delay it after the Haiti or Chile incidents because... well I doubt those countries were included in the game. Santiago's a pretty nice city and all but nah, I just doubt it.
Obviously though they included Tokyo, no shock there. It would be incredibly insensitive to release a game with Tokyo going down in flames after the recent events.
I dont blame them. Those of you getting all worked up need to get your heads out of your asses and appreciate the fact that you still have your home. Oh noez the game got delayed now what will I play?

Does anybody finds a little bit ironic that a game about racing on an apocalypse world is getting delayed because of an earthquake and a tsunami? Anyway my best wishes for the people in Japan.

To the people complaining about the game being pushed back: have you ever heard the phrase "TOO SOON"?
You're lucky the game wasnt outright canceled like the 3 or 4 flight simulators that suffered from that little inconvenience called 9/11, and only 3,000 people died in that.

That whole too soon, stuff never made any sense to me. Why does it become ok later on to depict a tragedy. And this time it was just coincidence.
why not release the game as soon as possible and use some of the earnings to help the situation?

Wasnt buying it anyways either. I have the demo and its definitely better than Pacific Rift but like said earlier the game just gets impossible at the ending of the race tickets. Pacific Rift was horrible, glad i wasnt stuck with the purchase. I did buy 3D rift that i cant get rid of sadly lol. dont buy 3D rift if you have pacific rift...its the same stuff lol.
i like the destructive environments in Apoc but other than that it seemed like the SoS, and that has double means intended lol.
PS - Earthquakes and Tsunamis are horrible. Went through one back in the 90s in LA. Japan and the world will grow stronger because of it.

"It's only a game until somebody gets hurt". That mentality is why marketing departments rush to delay or cancel products as well as everything from films to videogames if there happens to be a tragedy or disaster of a similar type which hits too close to home. The Blu-Ray release of "Hereafter" has been delayed in some territories due to the timing of the disaster (the movie features a tsunami scene), and is just one of many examples. It may be frustrating for some folks, but companies, filmmakers, and game developers don't want the bad press that might come should their product be considered insensitive.
The sad thing is, a game like MotorStorm: Apocalypse, while intended as simple escapism, belies the horrible reality of the human tragedy and suffering we're seeing unfold in Japan when a massive disaster does actually happen. The idea that we could make a game to enjoy and even laugh at its cavalier, jocular attitude toward wholesale destruction shows that we really don't think such a thing WILL happen, at least not to us directly. I think Sony's move was in good taste.
At any rate, I'm praying for all those folks in Japan. Any person with a shred of humanity should feel at least some heartbreak over seeing those stories and images. Hope their country recovers soon.

I don't get why people are complaining the game gets delayed.
It's totally reasonable considering the setting of the game and the current tragedy in Japan.
At least, using people who complain's own word, it's just a game.
MGS2 came out later than the schedule because of 9.11 event and eventually had the whole Arsenal embarking Manhattan with twin tower in the game removed.
Just imagine if you have your family, or countrymen killed in the horrible disaster and then a game comes out with the depiction of the disaster with rescuing work still on the way, people still in danger in emergency shelter, how would you feel? It's not appropriate to do that, not to mention the game is developed by the company whose country is facing the disaster.

seriously, are you all wondering why this game has been 'indefinately' delayed?
look at the reasons above and you'll see, and plus you all know how the worlds media is about video games? releasing this game would have only given Fox news more space to argue that games turn anyone into a savage that wants to destroy democracy and supports muslim terrorists while peddling drugs to children that they then want to trade in peado rings around the world...
n i can live with this delay, even though i dont have a PS3, i completely understand and i bet the 'indefinate' delay is just in good taste they cant possibly say Xth date only to have to move it again
****p.s sorry about the lengthy post****

Oh please, if you want to show compassion for Japan donate money and help out however you can. Delaying a video game because it has earthquakes and destruction in it means nothing. Innocent people die everyday across the world from acts of violence, should games depicting violence not be released? I didn't see any of this level of compassion around the world when people were drowning in New Orleans. I don't care about the game, I just can't stand all this hypocrisy and how people are selective with what human beings they're sad about going through hard times.

Delaying a game like this because of the tragedy actually makes sense for Sony.
Surely you'd realize that they are not only doing this for compassion but they are also doing this to avoid even the slightest backlash and negative press... right?

I like the idea of releasing the game, generating donation money and doing a nice sensitive PR campaign that explains how it was in development for years and rather than add on they want to help. I don't see the games release as insensitive but it would grab fox news type headlines for about a day and then disappear like other games.

It's not like this game is Propeller Arena, it's just a racing game set during natural disasters. From what I understand, there is more of a storyline. I think the reason is political correctness gone amok.
I suspect that the game will get released in the US during June, a week or two after Infamous 2.

Release the game, donate all all money after the game makes a certain amount of profit (a VERY small amount, like 10% past its budget or something) straight to Japan.
Problem solved, and I'll buy the game even though I'm not a racing fan. There are better ways to handle this than indefinitely delay a game that is being published by a Japanese company when the entire economy of said country is going straight to shit right now.

Everyone:
No, this game releasing or not being released will not change anything. The entire point of all these arguments is that some people are actually complaining that a video game is delayed due to the events taking place in Japan. It's a game... and it's delayed. Who gives a shit. The game will eventually come out and you will get to play it then. No one said it's going to change anything at all and I'm sure everyone feels bad for the people suffering through this terrible situation, but put it into perspective, please.
The bottom line is that you have to wait to play a game. You wanted to play it, and it's too bad it's delayed, but that's all that's happening here. Don't bitch about it. You will get to play it later. Don't make the delay of a video game out to be a big deal when it's directly related to an actual big deal.

I think it's important for those who do not quite understand why sony has halted the release to actually read up about what has happened over in japan a little more closely. Song has not said it will never be released, merely that at present, the current release would fall in very poor taste.
I agree the world to some extent is political correctness mad and that perhaps we should think about all them 'War' titles set in the middle east. But to think releasing this game now is not in poor taste in monumentally cold. Sony have made the right decision regarding this.
Also I think it is important to note that Sony is a Japanese company (whether the game is being developed outside japan or not) and as it is them publishing it, it is understandable they feel it is in poor taste for their home country and the decision probably came right from the top.
