Really excellent to see this kind of exposure and reception for some great games.

I spent a lot of time covering the small studios there. Indie Alley was a great place to see all of the up and comers and give them their due. They work as hard or harder than big devs and this is how they get theirs.

As an Enforcer on the expo hall floor, I got asked quite often by attendees where the Boston Indie Showcase was. They really were busy with people checking them out. When I would check on the booths in Indie Alley they were always all smiles and just enjoying the crowds around their booths.

The big companies draw the crowds in and the indie developers get the benefits. It's a win/win. :D

I honestly came away from from PAX East more excited about the indie games than anything else. I'm one of those (as are the friends I was with) who just isn't going to stand in line for a long time so my friends and I spent most of our actual play-time with indie games and came away pretty excited for this years content. So many 2-4 player FUN games coming at great prices, its ridiculous. Games I normally would have forgotten about are actually on my radar now.

The only reasons I'll be going to PAX East in the future is for the city of Boston, indie games, and panels, with room for the random exception (of course). It wasn't just the lines that kept us from playing the AAA games; there really wasn't that much we even wanted to play since the big names were all either video presentations or just stuff we'd been seeing and reading about for months on end. Prime is becoming the place to go for the AAA demos. Its right after E3 so not only will there be exciting new content but they will actually be playable! We spent our PAX East trip probably 70% Boston, 30% PAX becasue there just wasn't that much exciting stuff to do there. And that 30% PAX was indie games, Joystiq panel, IGN panel. Done. When you have a regular gaming group of friends, spending 1,2,3+ hours doing the same stuff you do at home just isn't fun for us when there's an amazing city to be explored. Having those things - tabletop, console gaming, and other unique areas - is what makes PAX great but for us, we do all those at home and just prefer to spend our time differently on trips like this. The indie games gave us something to be excited about upon our departure from Boston.

Yeah, I did notice the complete love and accessibility for the indie developers when I went. We did stand in line to catch the L.A. Noire presentation and watch the Portal 2 scenes, both of which are certainly exceeding my already exuberant expectations, but in the end we definitely had a blast playing a great deal of the indie games.

We kept frequenting the Twisted Pixel booth, and Chainsaw was a great guy each time, explaining the Gunstringer to me and hopping on the Ms. Splosion Man multiplayer demo. We also stumbled onto Swarm, Fancy Pants, Raskulls, and Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet to name a few. Yes, each one was a blast, and yes, the exhibitors present were incredibly kind and excited to chat about the creative process behind these games. Indies certainly had their tentative hold in the floor, as masses swarmed to and fro, and I shared quite a bit of fun times with others. All I can wonder now is, "Who's gonna be at Prime?"

Does Behemoth count as indie still? Cuz their booth was fire and my pick for best-of-show.

Also, I played Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet. Three times. It was awesome, and definitely one of my most anticipated games. I was ridiculously excited for it when I heard it was gonna be in the mix for PAX a few days before I got on the bus.

Fallen Frontier was terrific, though I could tell it wasn't quite done (the explosions were measly and seemed like placeholders).

The new Dishwasher game was freakin awesome too, it's a definite download, even though I was never fully sold on the first one. They got the mix right this time, and the devs even admitted this when I spoke with them.

Also, Slam Bolt Scrappers, that sold me. I played it before I left on the last day and downloaded it on PSN type-quick.

I really didn't play much of any AAA stuff at PAX, and no I don't think I missed a damned thing.

It was a great showing for Indies at PAX. I can really see the show blossoming into more of an indie-loving event. I had more fun at their booths than at the larger publishers.
