Milo & Kate engine footage shows off mega meshes, derelict backyards
29
Before Milo captured the hearts and minds of a people (and was taken out back and shot like he had rabies), lead programmer at Lionhead Studios, Ben Sugden, worked on a world in which the boy could live. During his GDC panel, Sugden took attendees on a tour of Milo's world -- the video past the break shows that Milo's digs were quite pleasing to the eye, if a little unkempt.

Is anything even approaching the potential coolness of Milo coming out for Kinect or Move any time soon? :p

@PR0F3TA In the gamer sense of "cool" where Seaman and a giant bird-dog named Trico are cool, then yes, Milo had the *potential* to be pretty cool.
In the "mainstream" sense of cool? No, not at all.

Nah I wouldn't even say then. Seaman's cool because of how creepy it was. Hey You Pikachu was cool because you had your own PIkachu who couldn't tell the difference between an Apple and a Acorn.
Milo seemed to me ,atleast, like it was raising a 8-12 year old. I don't want to play a game where I have to say how good he's doing (even though he could be doing horrible at what he's trying), (assumption on this one) I'd have to say his crappy artworks are good, and all the boring stuff of a parent. I already have a set a kids I need to lie to (my nephews live next to me) I don't need a game that's going to turn out the same way.
There's a difference between these. Parent sim VS Creepy Fish and a Pikachu caretaker Sim.

I suppose I can see why Milo might not be considered that cool. Even so, I don't think there's anything as innovative or interesting coming out for Kinect or Move as Milo would have been...

Innovative I can see. Cool, nah. If Milo worked exactly as they showed, and better, it would've taken the pet sim genre to a whole new level.

Hey, I just heard about this cool thing called Guitar Hero. In concept, that sounds like a cool idea too.

If you are an uncle, then why lie to the kids when you could tell them the horrible, brutal, and often times, very awesome truth. It's so much more fun that way - trust me. And the uncomfortable positions you put your siblings into when their kids call them out on being liars, is so damned priceless Visa should make a commercial about it.
If you're going to be an uncle, then be an uncle, dammit. No point in being a parent, unless you are getting laid to be so.
BTW, Milo was cool. I was going to warp his fragile, little mind in all kinds of ways imaginable.

@PR0F3TA Um, if you can't see the similarities between what Milo could have been and what Seaman and The Last Guardian are, then you kinda deserve to be downvoted.
I never said they were equally as cool, but they're all part of an "interactive-AI" game genre that is very cool and unfortunately very infrequently published.

That big gap in the backyard was probably meant for water. Not only is there a lighthouse on the edge, but when they are moving thru it, you see particulates that would have been in the water.

That looks amazing, I doubt that would have even ran on the 360 but what do I know

I thought the demo was run on a Mac, which was hidden backstage, with the actual voice actor responding to the demo?
It was a big shit when it came out it was all fake, and that the software and Kinect support was nowhere near enuf to support that kind of thing at that point.

@brer this is hardly anything to flaunt around about because everything is so static. all it shows it that it is focusing on rendering and lighting, there's hardly any other tasks being done in this demo. this would be really impressive if it was actually applicable, but it's not with its current hardware.

When reading that article about Molyneux pondering if his best days were behind him, was I the only one who scratched my head and thought about the canceled Milo project?

this just pushes that idea that Milo was being developed past that of just tech demo for the Kinect. Nobody would put this much time and effort in designing a world like this just to scrap it later on. There was a lot of work done here.

Love the Photoshop!
Crazy that they built that much world and are now doing nothing with it.
