Agreed.

I hate how they give a wide range of $1.50 to $15. All games should be $15, no matter what.

Deal breaker'd.

Don't forget that any Android phone that is PlayStation Certified will also be able to use the PlayStation Suite.

B.) Regarding PS1 games....money.
C.) You don't need this thing to live.

So...those discs are analog pads. That's cool. But only L1 and R1? No L2 and R2? Why, WHY does Sony keep doing this? They could do super-easy, straight-up PS1 and PS2 ports if they would only bother to replicate the full control scheme of the dual shock controller.

They screwed this up with the PSP, forcing companies to do crappy ports--just because of the control schemes.

This is a phone, so don't expect them to go all out on this device.

Also, why be concerned with ports and such? Whatever the control scheme for a a game system, I'm personally more interested in games that are made for it rather than the games that are shoehorned into it.

In the world of $.99 games, I don't think I'd advertise the upward cost of them at all. If they were going to increase in price, I'd just keep my mouth shut and let the media report on it when it happens. Either way, I'll have to wait it out now to see if this is even a viable option now. I wasn't set on getting the phone anyway, but knowing the games might be more expensive than a standard android based phone makes me think twice.

And yeah, why would the say upwards of $15...
I've seen android games sell for $20 on the app market but android never advertises it's apps saying "Free to upwards of $20!"

wait a minute.

I dont understand why anyone is making any kindof deal about this?

Mobile games pricing is generally 99 cents - 15 dollars. So WHY is this even news? I'll be able to play any android game on this , as well as use emulators? I'll also gain access to the library of games going to playstation suite, which is stated here to range from a buck to 15? Isn't this standard anyways? Whats the big deal?

LOL how is this a DEAL BREAKER? whats with all the rediculous rash judgements, read what the article says, take a breath, and comprehend.

Anyways if they can bring the calibre of the mobile gaming market up a few notches towards a traditional handheld experience then I wouldnt mind paying 10-15 for games with a better gameplay experience/ graphics/ content / replayability etc. You pay much more then that on a 3DS or PSP/ NGP.

I just can't believe the lack of logic/ reading comprehension on this blog sometimes.

REALLY?

I totally agree. Gamers want cheap games - but remember that you pay for what you get!

If XPeria Play can SUPPORT $20 games, that means that some higher-caliber, serious experiences will be made for and released on the platform. This is good news, people.

@unboring I think if people expect $1 games on any device they should look forward to a few hours of game play in most cases. There are exceptions, however dedicated devices or the very unique button enabled Xperia Play, provide a more intuitive way for controlling more complex games.

I have no qualms with paying $15 for a high quality mobile game, but you better believe I'll do a little research beforehand instead of listen to the hype (cough, Angry Birds, cough). I hope the Xperia Play succeeds because it will open the door for more phones with button controls. In the future I would like to see a real Playstation Portable Phone with full PSN integration and an Xbox Phone. Please and thank you powers that be.

There are quite a few games on the iphone that are over 10 dollars. So I'm going to take this as they are planning on some games that will be more priced premium. Like Chaos Rings for example.

Hopefully this is all it means and not that most games will be 10 and up.

I'm a couple weeks away from upgrading my phone and Sony would have won my purchase if it were just for one thing: letting me redownload compatible games I've already bought on PSN for no additional cost. I have PS Plus and if I could've taken those minis and PS1 games on the go with this phone, it would have been a no-brainer. Sony screwed the pooch on this one. iPhone it is.

@squallgengar My sentiments exactly. Additionally, my contract was due for an upgrade and I got the iPhone 4 instead of waiting for the Xperia Play. I could have waited for the next iteration, however, I'm not a patient person, and most games will run just fine in the ensuing 2 years.

iOS is a good choice for a phone if you want to play games. People rag about how the touch screen inhibits game play, however its only partially true. Playing a first person shooter is a recipe for frustration, however there are so many genres which work just fine or even better.

I'm disappointed about Sony Ericsson's decision to gimp Playstation integration (as I'm also a PSN + subscriber) however I'm happy with my phone choice. End rant.

@kgoo867 You assume that ALL Android phones are Playstation certified and have button controls. "Currently" iOS has better games than Android, more dev support, and games which are cheaper and better optimized than their Android counterparts. All of which could change I might add.

I'm not trying to bash Android and his point is moot, however lets not generalize. The Xperia Play was my future phone until I found out I couldn't transfer my PSone games to the device. Such a wasted opportunity...

Although no one on the net has contradicted this, the people at Sony ericson seem to have no idea how the Playstation Division are handling Playstation Suite and by reading a couple of interviews with Kaz Hirai, this is how I think Sony are planning on making PlayStation Suite work.

1. PlayStation Suite is NOT seperate from the PSN, Kaz said himself that there will be a Playstation Store App and a PlayStation Suite app for all androig 2.3 phones in the future. eg. You will load up the PSN app to download PSS/PS1 games to your phone and open the Playstation Suite app to play them.

2. In this sense PlayStation Suite is a virtual platform, so I think you will be able to download already-bought PS1 games for the PlaystationSuite app on android in the same way you can on the PS3/PSP.

3. All "PlayStation Certified" means is that your phone is cable of running PSS without any major graphical and gameplay problems caused by fragmentation.

4. Sony Ericsson are confusing the hell out of everyone. For starters, the PSN and PSS on android phones won't launch untill later this year, to make up for this with Xperia Play owners, Crash Bandicoot will be 'preloaded' on the device and that is all the Xperia Play has PlayStation wise for now. All the other games coming out now on the Xperia Play are made for that device alone and have nothing to do with PlayStation.

I know this sounds quite confusing but I think Sony wanted to announce Playstation Suite much further in the year, however Sony Ericsson forced them to announce it earlier so that they could use the "PlayStation Certified" brand as selling point, even though its not something that will matter untill further down the line.

I appreciate that a lot here could be wrong as Sony haven't been clear about PSS, however I hope this helps in some way.

Why are you guys so mad? 15$....don't we but 60$ games on our home consoles and probably spent around 30$ for our DS or PSP....now you complain about 15$? You really can't complain about the price until you know what games are that price and if it meets is value.....think for once....

OH NOooooooo, not as much as 15 DOlllllaaaaars! ;)
Pay attention, to words like "could" and "top" and "upwards of". That may help your brains. Then, go look at how much apps/games cost on your device. Then compare the level of production and hours of levels and content in those games with some PS games. Also, you may want to look at how much PS1 games cost on the PSN store. This will help perspective.

Also, complaining that you can't play games on it that you already own...really?! Who does that and why would you actually expect that to be the case. It isn't a PSP, or a PS-anything. The phone is just using the new PlayStation branded store that will be available on other devices as well in the future. Now if there isn't some compatibility from this phone to another phone using the same store or something, I could see an issue.
