New Game of Thrones: Genesis screens and art are awfully icy
16
One by one, the constituent elements of Cyanide's RTS adaptation of George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire are being revealed. With today's screens, we know A Game of Thrones: Genesis will have plenty of ice -- but where's all the fire? Now that we think about it, where's all the singing?

My first thought was, "Why are they making a Game of Thrones game for the Genesis?"

I'm holding out for Game of Thrones: Intellivision, myself.

Nothing screams "Game of Thrones" like giants which wouldn't show up until later in the series and all the human architecture looking extremely high fantasy rather then run down and medieval.
The first part could be remedied by changing the name to something along the lings of SoIaF, but I guess it's being marketted alongside the HBO show. It looks like they're missing the point of the series completely judging from just these screens, and opting to make a standard fantasy rts/tbs.
Here's to hoping I'm wrong.

I had always envisioned the architecture of Westeros like you mentioned, dirty Mid-evil-ish. However I think GRR Martin had something different in mind, because if you look at the newly released screenshots from the upcoming TV show (which Martin is Executive Producing), the architecture seems much more high-fantasy than I thought it would.

Yes, they have said the game covers the time period of Aegon the Conqueror.

@fuzzy It's true that I'd have expected a great deal of grit from the imagery of Westeros, but the place is absolutely rooted in magic and grandeur (albeit ancient and faded instances of both). For instance, take a look at the Wall: 700 ft tall and stretching for countless miles, made largely of ice. Very fantasy.
Furthermore, if this does indeed depict events during the Targaryen reign (as some have theorized), it would make sense for a lot of the more grandiose stuff that's only beginning to crop up in the series to be a lot more commonplace. Martin's world is a decayed one, but it had a lot of spectacular stuff in its heyday.
That said, I don't like the look of this game, either; it feels very off, somehow. =P I wonder if TV-series tie-in will become the new movie tie-in?

Are you sure that's King's Landing? Looks more like it would be Qarth to me.

The dragon screenshot from before made it seem like it would probably be about Aegon the Conqueror, but that picture of what appears to be a Black Brother has me a little confused. I wonder if it's about the First Men? Both? Modern times? All three?

@fuzzy which is weird since, obviously, Jon wasn't alive when Aegon and his dragons were tearing around

Based on the title I was kind of hoping for this to be 16-bit (apparently I'm not the only one based on the other comments.) Still got my old Genesis, although it hasn't been hooked up since I moved to my new place.
