I bought this last night because it looked like fun.

After the 1st level, it locked up and I had to reboot my xbox.
Midway through the 2nd level, it locked up again.

That concludes my time with this game (my console does not have a history of locking up, so I assume it is the game).

I recommend caution just in case I am not the only one...

@Aceofwilds
I ran into the same problem. Froze up on my 3 times playing, haven't played since.

@Aceofwilds sad to say im not surprised. hotheads last game Deathspank: ToV had a game breaking glitch right at the end of the friggin game where you couldnt beat the game then. they/ea wont patch it either. thats when i decided to never buy anything from that shitty dev ever again.

"contract the swarmites"? Oh no, I contracted that last year from an extended stay in the Philippines, and it's not something I'd wish on anyone.

Sounds hard to get into with the balance between life and death, but I think that the focus is on a competitive leaderboard level. Seems like a perfect game for people who like to maximize their multiplier and shave seconds off their finish time.

Does anyone remember Lemmings? What a fantastic game. They should bring that franchise back!

I have this on PS3 and this review is pretty poor. I found the execution to be fantastic and worth my $11.99 (through PS+ discount).

Getting a better score by getting a few extra swarmite deaths is REALLY gratifying. I have had a blast with the game and haven't had too much frustration. I don't get what everyone is saying about this "brick wall".

@Kirkpad

the devs likened this game to super meat boy, not that it's as twitchy (it isn't), but that's it's purely about high score, speed and death. That's something that appeals to only some gamers, so perhaps it didn't to the reviewer. i'd like to know what he thought about super meat boy.

It CAN get frustrating to die over and over again in swarm, just like SMB, but that's part of the game, it's old school arcade, not new school tons of checkpoints and hold your hand through the game. they did add checkpoints in swarm, but i think that's to make it slightly less punishing. Whereas SMB was praised for it's difficulty, this seems to be penalized for it.

game is definitely fun, and definitely hard at times. but like most, a matter of figuring out the trick(s) for various levels...

takes me back to the days of frustrating (b/c challenging) games on NES, even the 5200. controls/gfx are much better tho!

Pick up Overlord and Overlord 2. You can probably get a copy for the same price a swarm nowadays.

After listening to the podcast and reading the review, I would have to disagree with Ludwig's general assessment regarding the game's core mechanics. To paraphrase, he believed that the game lacked a definitive focus considering the level score/section quota requirement. Thus, if too many swarmies are killed you might prevent progression. In a way it is a bit of Overlord, Lemmings, and something else. The simple game mecanic of killing your tenderly, is what makes this a "game". If the developers had focused on discovering ways to kill swarmies, the game would have been too boring and uninteresting. It's all about maintaining a balance. Also, I'm not sure what "brick wall" folks may exeperience, I think there are many ways recover if you lose too many swarmies. So far in my playthrough I think the checkpoints are generous as well as the spawn pods. Whereas, Ludwig believed the game mechanics weakened the fun factor, I believe that it makes it more challenging and fun.
