APB Reloaded developer opening studio in Scotland
11
We know that events in the video gaming industry are cyclical, but we never expected them to cycle quite this fast. Dundee, Scotland-based developer Realtime Worlds developed APB before being shut down last year. The IP was then picked up by developer GamersFirst, who is now opening a new studio in Edinburgh, Scotland under the moniker Reloaded Productions.
The new studio will import the staff that's currently working to rebuild the interrupted online FPS, and will also open up 22 additional positions for folks who live in the area. Perhaps some Realtime Worlds staffers who haven't quite gotten back on their feet yet could land in these new openings! Not only would that add to the cyclical nature of the project, but it would also be a great example of human resource recycling. Go green, Reloaded Productions!

I preordered the original APB, played the closed beta, and still played even after the balancing issues, and I was disappointed that I didn't even get into the Gamersfirst beta. But then I did a couple of days ago, and I feel the game is even worse off in changed hands.
At least with RTW they were going in the right direction before they went bankrupt (with the TrueSkill, the idea of expansions, PvE, Chaos servers, and of course, PvZombies)
Sad

I didn't play the first one, but I did manage to get into the closed beta. From an outsiders perspective so to speak, it was still obviously apparent why the first game failed so bad.
The terrible mission system is what killed it for me. Its by far the worst system I've ever played. Ready up to get thrown into a mission with very little purpose or description other than to defend a random point you might be quite a ways away from while the opposition might be already there. Oh, they got there first. Dang. You better race to the next point to defend that. Oh, they were already closer to begin with and they're already there? Dang. We'll you got thrown into the mission at 3/5, so there's still one last chance. Nevermind. Mission Failed.
If there's more to the game, I must have missed it, but I don't really care. The few hours I spent with it were more than enough to make me never want to go back.

@Apakal I wonder when people realize that your not given reason to defend flags in a CoD game or go carry a skull for 5 minutes in Halo and no one complains about it in those games.

@AutomaticClutch and no one was calling COD or Halo an mmo and charging money either like in RTW's pay for time in action district or GF's cash shop version.

I honestly still expect this game to go under.
It's hard enough to launch a new IP; but this is like coke coming out with "new new coke;" at the end of the day people will still remember how bad the first iteration was and be even more wary of it.

The expectations of an MMO with RPG elements, even ones as shallow as APB, are vastly different from those of an FPS. If I wanted to defend flags and carry skulls, I would play CoD and Halo, because those games do it much much better than APB, which doesn't seem to do anything really well in my opinion.
