You'll find a video of the CCube after the break (skip to 2:20 for gameplay). With the disc drive actually located outside the case, it's worth noting that it's a tad on the noisy side, but impressive nonetheless. Then head over to the Mod Retro Forums for a detailed look at the CCube's construction.
The CCube puts a GameCube in your (very large) pocket

We've seen portable GameCube mods before, but the CCube (Compact Cube) built by one Jonathan Shine may be the smallest. Created using a GameCube, an old answering machine case, plastic cement and many coats of paint, the project took fifteen months to complete -- much longer than the original two weeks John had estimated.

How did he film this? Did he tape his camera to his face?
Posted: Mar 26th 2011 12:33PM (Unverified) said
@Enosoma Yeah, that's the most likely scenario. He probably taped a camera to his face and then set up a complex head rest so the camera wouldn't shake.

That's not very portable if you have to actually plug it in to get it to turn on...
I like the idea, don't get me wrong, and it looks nifty. But what's the point in a handheld system that you can't really go places with without worrying whether or not you'll be able to stick it into a wall socket?

Well at least you can play in your bed. Just don't fall asleep whilst playing for fear or breaking the disc drive.

Technically you could bring portable power in a backpack or something. Lame, but possible.

Actually that looks horrible. The optical drive on the back is a stupid design flaw. It looks like it's coming apart too. Nope.

I never actually beat any of the Metroid Prime games...

Wouldn't the fact that the disc is not enclosed means you can accidently mess it up with your trigger fingers?

@Cleric Of course you own your consoles. And you can do whatever the hell you want to with them at your house or your friends' houses. But if you start distributing something to the public that could potentially cut into their profit margin they WILL come after you with all the lawyers they can conjur up! :-)

Now make a portable Xbox or GTFO!
And you have to include the classic RRoD as a "feature".

Sony are going after a HACKER who HACKED their console and then SOLD the HACK to the public. He then went onto youtube and MOCKED sony. It really make me sick when i see people trying to defend Geohotz.

@Tempes Magus That was actually part of what I based my statement on. They worked until your CD was scratched up beyond all recognition. Which happened a fair bit. And those were MEANT to be mobile.
I'd hate to see what becomes of a disc used in a system that was meant to be stationary.

This is how we got laptops and PDAs and thus smartphones.
Somebody has to try making things smaller and more portable before they can be smaller and more portable.
That person is not doing anything different than what Nintendo wants to do anyway. Maybe it will even get them a job.

@Billlop Last time I checked he didn't sell the hack to the public.
You don't like pirates, we understand that. But you need to separate your moral beliefs vs what's actually happening. I'm not denying he opened the floodgates to pirating, but you can't make claims that are simply not true.

@Chichok he's taking donations for that hack, =/=. How ever you want to look at it. And it seems his defenders haven't been paying enough attention to details. Just screaming "Consumer rights" every time they get the chance. You don't own the source code people!

15 months to complete and he thought it would take two weeks....I'm impressed. He obviously went through the "sod this I'm going for a beer and shits and giggles with my friends rather than create this finger cutting device" stage quite a few times. Kudos to you sir!

@mmmfishtacos Yeah, donations. Which means people choose to give money.
Yes, the defenders are not fully paying attention to the details, but so are the anti-pirate people. It's fine to want the hacker to go down because your belief is he did horrible damage to Sony.
But the law is the law. You can't go claim something just because you don't agree with a law. If GeHotz goes free, what are the anti-pirates going to do? Yell and scream? This is why we have court systems. It's in the court's hands now, let them sort through the mess.

You are confusing hackers and pirates, they aren't the same. Pirates take advantage of hackers work. A lot of hackers including Geohot do not support pirates.

@hype2k2 I'm not confusing them. All I said was GeHotz's hack gave pirates a upper hand. I'm saying that people are mad at GeHotz because of the pirating, not because of the hacks. If GeHotz discovery didn't help pirates at all, nobody would really care.
