iOS. yeah, it's stupid. and yet Jobs called the iPad the "best browsing experience." a measly 1024x768 screen and no flash is so far from the "best" it's not even funny.

@umainebearman If you're using an iDevice to read Joystiq, why aren't you using the Joystiq app?

This looks really cool but I take ages to finish my games (I play once a fortnight for about 2 hours) so this would drain my cash :( ... correctly me if I am wrong but this is pay monthly right?

They have to nail the controls for this. All of the content you put into this is nothing if you don't have appealing controls. I worry about this when it comes to MMOs.

I would assume it would probably control/play similar to the Knights of the Old Republic games. Refined, I'm sure. So, if you really loathed those games I would probably steer clear. Personally, I loved those game so I'll be all over this!

Nope. No way in hell. Holiday season is a reasonable bet. No way can this thing get pushed out earlier than late summer.

In all honesty the other classes look like a lot of fun.

@Rocket Raccoon My SWTOR buddy is dead set on playing Trooper. A *lot* of people like to play soldier classes in every game that offers more than soldier classes.

Evolution of a Jedi? I believe that's what happens when you give a Light Stone to an Evee.

Swiftly followed by:
Trying PVP, getting killed by bounty-hunters.
Raging on the forums about Bounty-hunters being OP.
Rolling Sith.
Ah, the fall to the darkside sure is subtle.

I'm so disappointed that they didn't keep KOTOR's beautiful, more realistic art direction.
Why did they have to make it cartoony? To compete with WoW??

A couple of reasons, none of which am I sure of. Probably A) the more abstract and simplified, the more identifiable characters are from a distance or pvp perspective. B) with it being simpler, its probably easier for computers to handle, which means doing all the cut scenes isn't so stressfull (like why wow didn't do it when it came out), C) to set itself apart from other SW titles, and D) perhaps to lure in some of the kids from clone wars show. They already have the old school fans foaming at the mouth, but they need to hook in the kids that would look at a realistic version and think that it wasn't like the cartoon they like.
at least, IMO

Quick answer: yep.
Longer answer (fiction): Our game is designed to run on a wide range of hardware, and support a large number of concurrent players. To that end, there are some things that do get scaled back when going from a single player experience to a massive multiplayer experience. Of course, many things are scaled up, as well. The environments are larger, there are far more items and quests, and naturally there are more players interacting with each other, creating a far richer game world. Since we had to deal with lower polygon counts and less texture space, we decided a simpler art style combined with more equipment diversity would ultimately be more compelling for players. If every Jedi wore simple brown robes, there would be no indication of accomplishment or rank. Nobody would be able to say "u r teh sukzor, be hold me sparkling gear!" or "Should I get the assassin's creed cloak or the black one with the praying mantis emblem on the back? I like the Ezio looking cloak, but since my Jedi survival exo-suit armor is a dark red, the black one would give me a cool Darth Maul look. But I don't know if I could handle having a praying mantis on my back."
Our main goal is to provide the experience players want, so that's the primary motivator behind all of our creative decisions. Naturally, this will share some common ground, both with our own games, and with some things from competitors' games, but I think in the end, players are really going to enjoy what we've put together for them.

Seeing the fantastic trailers for this game just make me upset since this game will be an MMO. I really hope this game flops, so the next one isn't.
