Siliconera has turned up listings for four trademark applications that Namco Bandai recently submitted to the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (the trademark registry for the European Union). While all of the potential trademarks have been filed under general video game-related classifications, two are explicitly linked to the publisher's Katamari Damacy franchise.
Filings for "Katamari Amore" and "Katamari Amore Rolling Whopper" indicate that Namco Bandai might be preparing to roll out a new entry in the ball-it-up series. (That, or maybe two great kings are forming a strategic alliance for fast food promotion.)
It's been nearly seven months since Katamari Damacy creator Keita Takahashi left Nacmo Bandai for good; though he wasn't directly involved with the last four Katamari games, which marked a steady decline for the brand. 2009's HD iteration, Katamari Forever for PS3, did little to update the played out formula, and Namco Bandai has shelved the series since.
Namco Bandai filed two additional trademark applications, for "Time Trip" and "Have a nice trip!," along with the Katamari ones, but there's no clear relation between the set. Of course, anything "Trip" calls to mind one-half of the dynamic duo in last year's critical darling Enslaved -- not that we're calling these vague 'marks any indication of a sequel.

I loved the first game. It was the one moment in my life I felt like a Hipster. "I know this great game nobody else plays."
But I was really in a deja vu mode with the 360 edition. I never even touched the PS3 and PSP editions reading they were just the same games again.
Hell...even the second game felt worn.
Here's hoping something interesting is added to the formula.

Or taken away. I liked the first game best, too, and to be honest, I'd rather play the first one all over again than play some of its sequels any more than I already have.
Maybe it's just me, but I just want to roll around and pick up stuff. I don't want all these crazy rules.

Maybe that explains my predicament? I had never played a Katamari game until the 360 release and I was underwhelmed given the series good word of mouth. Now every time I see another "sequel", I question why.

@CaptainProtonX I will buy every one ever made for the music alone. Forever had a lot of problems but an excellent soundtrack.

I'd totally shell out cash for a Wii/Move version.

Glad to see they're still thinking about Katamari. I still can't believe how poorly this franchise was handled after the first game (or I guess I wouldn't believe it if Konami hadn't effed up almost all of their other franchises already.) The Wii would have been the perfect console for a Katamari game that rebundled Damacy and We Love with "motion" controls (you wouldn't even need to improve the graphics!,) but I think that ship has sailed.
I'm holding out for a Kinect-amari game, personally. Or 3DS, whenever I decide to actually pick one up.

You know, I gotta think to myself "What do you even do to improve this?" Me and My Katamari had some games where you had to pick up certain types of things, like say a "Sweet" katamari for a group of ants. That was alright I suppose. But I mean honestly, it's a game about picking stuff up to get larger to pick bigger stuff up. You're timed. Yeah, that's the game.
But I still found Both the Ps2 games and the PSP title to be awesomely fun. I'd pick up the PS3 version as well if I had the money. The thing about Katamari is that there isn't anything to build on. I mean, it's ok that CoD releases the same FPS since Modern Warfare AGAIN in MW2 and Black Ops. But it's not ok that Katamari does it? I don't really get where you're coming from here.
