Just saying I'm getting the game new. You be surprised how many games that get traded in on the same day they release @ the GS where I work (cough, Homefront).

That's all.

I don't think the Online Pass is all that big of a deal but I buy all my games new. However, the Online Pass is useless in the area I reside in (NC) cause (hard to believe) some people either don't play online or have the internet available where they live so saving at least $12 is a good deal to them.

Oh well...

It would if I resold my games but I don't. Ever game I purchase, I KEEP.

Crazy, huh? An GameStop employee that doesn't buy used or trade games. Yeah, I hear it from coworkers all the time.

Good try though buddy.

@CaptainProtonX As opposed to MS doing the EXACT same thing by holding the MP aspect to EVERY game unless you pay for Live? I buy my games new so I don't have a problem with this, now MS holding MP from games I paid for until I pay for Live, now that's a dick of a move. Then again my 360 just sits there waiting for the occasional MS exclusive rental since I now refuse to pay for Live.

@The angry pro consumer gaming ga

News flash angry pro, the next Sony console will make you pay for online too. When xbox live isn't working, we generally get it fixed and compensated. When psn isn't working, we get silence. Why? It's customer vs user. XBL has customers, PSN has users.

As to the online pass thing, it's just another way for the big companies to make you pass less. Most online pass games are MUCH less to buy used now if you don't want the multiplayer... but then again, none of them have been really good have they? It'll be interesting to see what, if anything, Activision does with the next CoD.

If not, how does this affect the developers, since they don't get a dime from used game sales?

Me too. The whole online pass system still hasn't caused me any grief, and I wouldn't think of buying MK any other way but new. I want my money to go to the companies that put it out, not a retailer reselling it.

I would be willing to bet that, when this game releases, SOMEWHERE on the packaging it will say something like "Online pass required to play game online". If people buying the game don't see it or don't know beforehand that it requires an online pass to play online, then that's their own fault for buying something without at least reading the packaging first.

I hold absolutely nothing against a company for using online passes with their products. When you buy a game used, the developer doesn't see a dime, so why shouldn't they discourage used sales? They made the game, so they deserve to be paid for it. I'd much rather my money go toward the developer of a game then the piece of shit company known as Gamestop. The only reason I call them that is because they might offer, for example, $6 for a game and then turn around and resell it for $30. While that's a good business strategy, it certainly isn't good for anyone but that business.

anybody else find it funny that someone would say "i'm not buying this game now"? technically, if you were going to buy it used, you aren't supporting the company anyway, so you not buying the game at all doesn't really matter. it doesn't matter for those of us who buy the game new, so i don't care what they do. i get more pissed when they include DLC on the disc then ask you to pay to "unlock" it.

@LexStewther: I thought the devs already get paid upfront for the games by the stores/distributors. When you buy a game, the devs never technically see that money because they were already paid for the copies. I suppose you indirectly don't support the developers when you buy used because that's one more new copy that the distributor won't need to replace.

@Rikerbot Except, they've already been paid for that used copy that someone bought, so to say that they don't make a dime is just ridiculous.

Sure you could say that they could have bought new as opposed to used, but there's no guarentee that they would anyway.

I can probably live with the online pass thing in theory. The problem is that these companies screw it up. Fifa, NHL, and Madden all had issues with people's online passes not working.

If you're going to do something that doesn't benefit consumers, you'd better make damn sure that it actually works. People can live with some cool feature breaking their game. They can't live with some horrible feature that is already working against them breaking it.

If I have to buy the game new to play online, fine, whatever. But I'd better not get home with the game and not be able to log in at all because their "authentication servers are down" or some other nonsense like that.

Online as an MK Game's biggest feature? Nah! The game itself is its biggest feature, and is always more of a couch-one-on-one kind of game. If you rent the game, your basically going to be experiencing the game full hand. Online is NOT the biggest feature.

You get a 2-day online trial if you rent it. Also, if you rent it from a rental store (as if those still exist), they usually have the box sitting on the shelf, so if they leave the online pass in it you can just copy the code down.

I have no issue with the ten dollar thing, honestly. Companies make no money off used games, and this lets them get some more of it back.

That said...

Not posting it on the package is bullshit and they will be opening themselves up to all sorts of issues. ESPECIALLY if the box mentions the game has multi-player but doesn't mention you don't get it just for owning the disk. That could be construed as everything from false advertising to breach of contract.

so the plan was, seeing as my brother is buying one on the day now, ill just borrow his copy cause he was only buying it to play me online anyways.

but he isnt going to let me use his code...soooo, *tears go here*

Someone give me a digital hug.

Just curious, but what's the last game you bought? Dragon Age 2, Mass Effect 2, Homefront, Need for Speed, etc; almost every game that has come out lately has this.

Sooner or later you'll have to choose a game that has an online pass. It's only getting started.

I own none of those games. I own Dragon Age Origins and have not purchased DA2. For one, there is the code reason, and for two it's idiotic to buy it I should just wait until they release the version with all the DLC like they did with Origins.
